Ex Lawyer claims 2nd amendment gave him right to shoot judge

Darren Mack allegedly killed his wife and shot his divorce court judge. His defense? Insanity. Why did his attorney offer that defense? Because Mack claimed that the 2nd Amendment gave him the right to shoot the judge. And, his lawyer reasoned, you'd have to be insane to believe that. This story is quite the soap opera!

Managing Partners have grim outlook on economy.

The Wall Street Journals law blog reports that managing partner confidence has plummeted recently. While profit outlooks for firms remain positive, most managing partners have lost confidence in the economy. Does this mean more layoffs? That's not yet certain, says the Wall Street Journal. Some practice areas will be devastated, but diversified firms should remain ok.

Former US congressman indicted in terrorism funding case

Mark Siljander, a former Representative from MIchigan and also a US representative to the United Nations was indicted on money laundering and other charges yesterday. The case stems from Siljander's association with an Islamic Charity, now defunct, which has allegedly funneled money to various terrorist organizations.

Small Texas town ordered to turn over land for Border Fence

The US Western District of Texas has ordered the small Texas town of Eagle Pass to turn over 233 acres of land temporarily to the federal government to begin construction of a border fence between the US and Mexico. Many other such lawsuits are pending against landowners along the proposed path of the border.

Large Texas firms pay associates bigger bonus

This past year has seen many large Texas firms pay their associates a healthy bonus, roughly equivalent to their work in 2006. Figures range into six figures at some firms for exceptional work. The increases also come as a form of replying to competition at other firms: as one firm raises bonuses, many follow.

Judge orders Libya to pay $6 Billion for Airplane Bombing

In 1989, Libya caused UTA Flight 772 to crash in central Niger, killing 7 Americans among others. Now, Libya owes $6 Billion for that act, under the terrorism exception to the Foreign Immunities Sovereignty Act.
