A large institutional investor has sued internet giant Yahoo! over Yahoo!'s rejection of Microsofts $44 billion dollar takeover bid.

Lawsuit challenging strict new immigration law tossed

Some business owners lost their challenge to Arizona's tough new immigration law today when the federal court judge dismissed their lawsuit. The ACLU and other civil rights groups had supported the business owners in this case.

Japan proposes four-year moratorium on executions

The Japanese parliament has introduced a bill which proposes a four year moratorium on executions and to convert all death sentences to life in prison without parole. This is expected to face opposition from the current Japanese Prime Minister.

Bill Lerach sent to prison for two years

Famous Plaintiffs lawyer Bill Lerach, who is involved in the infamous Milberg Weiss kickback scandal, has been sentanced to prison for two years. Prosecutors claimed that Milberg Weiss shared legal fees with clients to convince them to quickly file securities class actions. Lerach last fall pled guilty to obstructing justice and submitting false testimony.

Ghostwriting for Pro Se plaintiffs curbed

In New Jersey, a federal magistrate judged ruled last year that lawyers had to disclose to the court if they "ghostwrote" the pleadings for a pro-se plaintiff. This caused an uproar, and the New Jersey ethics board has allowed it to continue under limited circumstances.
