Pavinato Elected President of Chicago ALA
Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., is pleased to announce that Cindy Pavinato, Chief Human Resources Officer at the firm, has been named president of the Chicago chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). Ms. Pavinato took office on April 1, 2007.

Ms. Pavinato has a Masters degree in human resource management from Keller Graduate School of Management and received her Bachelors degree in business from Eastern Illinois University. She is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR). A member of ALA since 1999, she has volunteered in the classroom and has presented numerous seminars on achieving job success to teens for Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley's KidStart program as a member of ALA’s Educational Advocacy Committee. Ms. Pavinato is also a member of the Society of Human Resource Professionals and the Society for Human Resource Management. She joined Brinks in 1999.

ALA works to improve the quality of management in legal services organizations, promote and enhance the competence and professionalism of legal administrators and to represent professional legal management and managers to the legal community and to the community at large.

Christopher M. Olds Joins Bradley Arant
Charlotte, NC - Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP is pleased to announce that Christopher M. Olds has joined the firm in the Charlotte, NC office and is a member of the Construction and Procurement Practice Group. His primary focus is on representing owners, developers, engineers, architects, contractors and sureties in large scale public and private construction project disputes. Recently, he has represented clients in construction-related premises liability, products liability and construction defect claims. Additionally, Mr. Olds represents business clients in complex commercial litigation, including disputes related to distributorship agreements, telecommunications carrier compensation disputes, defaulted loan agreements for secured collateral, trade secrets, noncompete agreements, and unfair and deceptive trade practice claims. He also has experience litigating real estate issues and personal injury claims on behalf of national commercial clients, including commercial foreclosures, commercial lease disputes and eminent domain proceedings.

Mr. Olds received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Before Bradley Arant, Mr. Olds practiced as an environmental engineer for the U.S. Army Chemical and Biological Defense Command for two years. Later, Chris was an environmental engineer for three years with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Jeremy Becker-Welts Joins Bradley Arant
Washington, D.C. - Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP is pleased to announce that Jeremy Becker-Welts has joined the firm in the Washington, D.C. office and is a member of the Construction and Procurement Practice Group. He comes to the firm following a distinguished federal career as a civilian attorney for the General Services Administration, the U.S. Navy, and NASA, where he routinely represented those agencies in all aspects of federal procurement but focused primarily on construction, complex claims litigation, ADR, leasing, service contracting, and bid protests. Mr. Becker-Welts also designed and implemented a pilot program to provide risk management support for ongoing major construction projects; planned, and presented training and informational seminars before in-house, agency-wide, and private sector audiences; and trained and mentored entry-level attorneys, focusing particularly on risk assessment, trial preparation, and trial skills.

Mr. Becker-Welts received his B.A. summa cum laude from Christopher Newport University and his J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William and Mary. He served as Chairman of the Charles Town Board of Zoning Appeals from 1995 to 1997 and is also a member and co-founder of the Eastern Panhandle (WV) Adoptive Families Association. Mr. Becker-Welts is a classically-trained musician who, in response to his draft notice in 1970, enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a member of the United States Continental Army Band. He remained a military musician for ten years before giving up his life on the road to attend college and law school.

Stites & Harbison receives "Best Places to Work in Kentucky" honor
Stites & Harbison announced that the firm placed in the top ten in the third annual "Best Places to Work in Kentucky" competition. The firm was ranked number seven this year and has been recognized in the top 25 all three years of the competition. Stites & Harbison has offices in Frankfort, Lexington and Louisville, Ky.

"Best Places to Work in Kentucky" was hosted by the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management in conjunction with The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. It was sponsored this year by Humana, Inc. Stites & Harbison was one of 25 companies with more than 250 employees honored, including Hilliard Lyons, Norton Healthcare and Yum! Brands, Inc. The competition also recognized 25 companies employing between 25 and 249 employees.

The rankings were announced at an awards dinner April 24, 2007, at the Lexington Convention Center in downtown Lexington, Ky.

Leading Prepaid Card Lawyer joins Salans
Robert Courtneidge, formerly a partner with Osborne Clarke, joined Salans as a consultant in a global role to spearhead the firm's push into the prepaid card sector. He is based in the UK and is part of the banking & finance team.

Robert is recognised as one of the top industry specialists in the e-money arena and has advised many top financial institutions, technology providers and several of the new players in the market. His role at Salans allows him to work on other projects that include The Prepaid International Forum, the body that has been set up to be the voice of the prepaid industry.

He works on the cutting edge of the financial services industry, embracing new technological and legislative/regulatory developments. He has specialised in representing clients with new products and bringing them to the market. He has become a spokesperson on current issues facing the European Payments' Industry from the proposed Payment Services Directive, SEPA and the Third Money Laundering Directive. Robert is a regular speaker worldwide on prepaid cards and its technology.

Thacher Proffitt Represented Grupo Imsa in Sale to Ternium
Thacher Proffitt was mentioned in the article, "Ternium To Obtain Control of Mexico-based Grupo Imsa," as special United States counsel to Grupo Imsa, a Mexican-based steel manufacturer, and its controlling shareholders; with respect to certain aspects of the transaction governed by U.S. and New York law, regarding the sale of the company to Ternium, a NYSE-listed Luxembourg-based company with operations in Mexico, Argentina and Venezuela. The deal is valued at approximately US$1.7 billion. Marc Rossell was quoted, "the transaction implemented an age-old financing device but in fairly unique way that required some legal engineering to accommodate the desired result.
