Katten Muchin Rosenman Partner Nina Matis Named World’s Leading Real Estate Lawyer for Second Consecutive Year
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is pleased to announce that for the second consecutive year, Nina B. Matis, a partner in the Firm’s Real Estate Practice, has been named the world’s leading real estate lawyer at the Who’s Who Legal Awards. Who’s Who Legal uses thousands of nominations received from clients and private practice professionals, to identify the pre-eminent lawyer and firm in each of the 27 practice areas covered in The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers 2007, published in April.

“It is an outstanding achievement to win the Who’s Who Legal; The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers Real Estate Lawyer of the Year Award for a second time,” said Callum Campbell, the publication’s editor-in-chief. “Nina Matis’s continuing success demonstrates a consistent and unparalleled level of performance and service to clients. We have no hesitation in declaring her the leading lawyer for real estate.”

The awards are based on a number of factors, including the feedback received in the ongoing research process, past performance in the research and the overall aggregate number of weighted votes cast in their favor. In addition to identifying the leading firm and individual in each practice area, the awards also recognize the overall leading firm in 48 countries and five U.S. states. Who’s Who Legal lists only the leading practitioners in each field, based exclusively on the findings of a six month independent research process.

“We are thrilled that for the second year in a row, Nina’s exceptional legal skill in real estate law, along with her tireless dedication to first-rate client service, has been recognized with such a prestigious award,” said Vincent A.F. Sergi, Katten’s national managing partner.

Ms. Matis’ practice is concentrated in all areas of commercial real estate development and acquisition, including residential, office, retail, hotel and mixed use developments; financing, including rated and structured financing; and partnership law. She has extensive experience in the organization and investment activities of debt and equity funds comprised of pension funds, and of domestic and foreign investors, as well as in investment and organizational matters relating to REITS. She has worked on numerous transactions for clients, including iStar Financial Inc.,
Blackacre Capital Partners L.P. and The Related Companies. Ms. Matis is also a member of the Firm's Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.

From 1984 through 1987, Ms. Matis was an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University School of Law where she taught Real Estate Transactions. The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers 2007 is a compendium volume of the practice areas covered by Who’s Who Legal’s separate single volume publications. It is the result of ten years of independent research, incorporating feedback from thousands of lawyers and covering more than 7,000 practitioners across 27 separate practice areas in more than 100 countries.
