Two Orrick Lawyers Selected as Top Women Litigators.
Silicon Valley employment law partner Lynne Hermle and San Francisco litigation partner Melinda Haag are featured in the Daily Journal's annual report on top women litigators.

The award recognizes the victories and leadership of women attorneys and celebrates the advancements of women in law, according to the Daily Journal, a leading California legal publication. This year, the honorees were asked to reflect on a turning point or defining moment in their careers.

Hermle described a case she worked on in 1995 when she and the associate she was working with both encountered complications in their personal lives at an inopportune time. She said, “Sometimes, you have to grab the time you have for personal issues, then grimly put your head down, rally your team and work through them.”

Haag, a former federal prosecutor, deemed her pivotal career moment when she waived a jury trial in a federal criminal securities fraud case and the federal judge acquitted the defendant. She said, “There’s nothing better than telling your client, who was very afraid he would be indicted, that it’s over and that he can go home and resume his life.”

The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, almost a million volunteers and 35,000 employees helped victims of almost 75,000 disasters; taught lifesaving skills to millions; and helped U.S. service members separated from their families stay connected. Almost 4 million people gave blood through the Red Cross, the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. The American Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
