Roetzel & Andress Names Five New Partners
The law firm of Roetzel & Andress is pleased to announce five attorneys have been named partners with the firm: Chad Arfons, Stephenie Conde, Scot Crow, Douglas Lewis, and Ashley Lupo.

Chad Arfons is a member of the Real Estate Group in the Cleveland Office, focusing his practice on real estate and banking and finance. He advises developers, investors and REITs in retail, office, multi-family residential and industrial real estate acquisition, financing, leasing, development, construction, management and disposition. He also serves financial institutions, borrowers, and institutional investment consultants in the preparation and negotiation of loan documentation, loan participations and securitized and mezzanine loan financing. Mr. Arfons earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Tulane University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Akron.

A member of the Workers' Compensation Group in the Cleveland Office, Stephenie Conde concentrates her practice on workers' compensation issues, providing risk management services for a variety of Ohio businesses. She counsels both self-insured and state-funded employers throughout the state. Ms. Conde earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowling Green State University.

Scot Crow is a member of the Business Services Group in the Columbus office. He concentrates his practice in matters involving private wealth management, business succession planning and exit strategies, mergers and acquisitions, general taxation, design and implementation of non-qualified deferred compensation plans, civil representation of tax matters before the Ohio Department of Taxation and Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Crow counsels closely-held businesses and their owners, high net worth individuals and families, corporate executives and nonprofit public and private foundations. Mr. Crow earned his Juris Doctorate and Master of Laws degrees from Capital University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from Franciscan University.

Douglas Lewis is a member of the Real Estate Group in the Naples Office. He has developed extensive experience in complex commercial, residential real estate transactions, and construction lien law. He is also developing his practice in the areas of zoning and land use law in Southwest Florida. Mr. Lewis is also an agent for several title insurance companies in the State of Florida. Mr. Lewis earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Brigham Young University J. Reuben Clark Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University

Also a member of the Real Estate Group in the Naples Office, Ashley Lupo concentrates her practice on matters involving condominium and homeowners' association law. She represents more than 100 condominium associations, homeowners' associations, and country clubs within Collier and Lee Counties, is a member of the Condominium and Planned Development Committee of the Florida Bar, and conducts seminars on behalf of Building Managers International. Ms. Lupo earned both her Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Miami School of Law.

Hunton & Williams' Elizabeth Hendrix Johnson Named to Triangle Business Journal's '40 Under 40
"Hunton & Williams LLP today announced that Elizabeth Hendrix Johnson, an associate with Hunton & Williams’ Raleigh office, was named to the Triangle Business Journal “40 Under 40” list. The awards are presented annually to honor the brightest, most promising young business people under the age of 40. Award winners will have attained significant leadership roles in their organization, achieved a significant career milestone in 2006, and have a substantial involvement in community service. Winners were recognized at an awards banquet on April 27 at the North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh, N.C.

“To be recognized by Triangle Business Journal is a huge honor to me, and I share that with everyone at our firm,” says Johnson. “I am humbled to be named to this year’s list, and to be listed in the company of strong leaders throughout the Triangle.”

Johnson’s practice focuses on privacy, data protection and information management including identifying, assessing and remediating risks associated with privacy and data protection. - Johnson is also actively involved in pro bono cases through the Triangle. Outside of work, Johnson is actively involved in her church organizing missions’ trips, such as one she took last year to New Orleans, La. to help repair hurricane-ravaged houses.

Pepper Hamilton Continues Boston Office Expansion
Pepper Hamilton LLP announced that it has expanded its Boston office with the addition of Steven R. London as a partner. Mr. London is a corporate and securities lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, and he will help lead an expansion of the firm’s corporate practice in the Boston office.

Mr. London concentrates his practice on venture capital financings, public and private equity and debt offerings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance of public companies, proxy contests and dissident stockholder activities.

“We are successfully building a vibrant practice in Boston, focusing on private equity, venture capital and a variety of industries, including life sciences, electronics, software, information technology and alternative energy,” said Robert E. Heideck, Pepper’s executive partner. “Steve is a key element in our Boston growth strategy. His addition as part of the leadership team in the office will help us accelerate our development efforts in these and related fields.”

Mr. London joins Pepper from Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels LLP in Boston, where he was a partner in that firm’s corporate group and where he had practiced for more than 20 years.

“Pepper has great depth in private equity, and it offers the support of a strong national platform on which to further build a Boston-based corporate practice,” said Mr. London. “The firm also has an international reputation in medical devices, biotechnology and life sciences generally, which fits well with our region’s economy. It’s an exciting time to join Pepper, and I look forward to helping to develop the firm’s practice here.”

Mr. London represents the full spectrum of business clients, including publicly traded corporations, private-equity and venture-backed private companies, and entrepreneurs. He also represents foreign companies entering the U.S. market and accessing global capital. Mr. London has extensive experience in negotiating licensing, manufacturing, marketing and distribution agreements, joint ventures and strategic alliances.

Active in legal and civic organizations, Mr. London is a member of a number of federal, state and local bar associations, and he is a member of the Leadership Board of the Wharton Global Consulting Practicum at the University of Pennsylvania. He also is an active speaker who regularly addresses corporate executives in the United States and globally on topics relating to rapidly growing businesses.

Mr. London is a graduate of Brandeis University (B.A. 1977) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D. 1980).

Richard E. Rosberger Returns to Milbank
Richard E. Rosberger has rejoined Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP as of counsel in the New York office, the international law firm announced today.

For the past five years, Mr. Rosberger served as Assistant United States Attorney, Civil Division, Southern District of New York. During his tenure, Mr. Rosberger was responsible for an extensive docket of tort, constitutional, false claims act, forfeiture, environmental, habeas, tax and bankruptcy cases. Notable cases included leading on the civil side a joint criminal/civil investigation involving healthcare fraud that led to a consent decree and monetary settlement, and successfully defending the United States in a trial under the Federal Tort Claims Act. He also argued numerous dispositive motions in the District Court and appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. In 2005 he was a co-recipient of the John Marshall Award for Alternative Dispute Resolution for settlement of claims brought on behalf of the U. S. Navy Exchange.

Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, Mr. Rosberger spent six years as an associate in Milbank’s New York litigation department. His responsibilities included preparing clients for as well as taking and defending depositions; preparing pleadings, motions and briefs; supervising a team of lawyers in discovery; and participating in all aspects of cases. His practice encompassed securities, banking, insurance class actions, RICO, trusts and estates, trademark and general commercial litigation. In addition, Mr. Rosberger served as a member of the Recruiting Committee from 2001 – 2002 and headed the Summer Associate Program in the Litigation department in 1999.

Mr. Rosberger began his legal career as an associate in the litigation department at Mayer Brown & Platt. He received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and managing editor of the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law. Mr. Rosberger earned an M.A. in international law from George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs and a B.A. from Cornell University.

McGlinchey Stafford'S David Smith Named MCLE Committee Vice Chair For Texas State Bar Association
S. David Smith of McGlinchey Stafford's Houston office has been appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Committee of the State Bar of Texas for 2007-2008.

As Vice Chair of the MCLE Committee, Smith will work with the Chair and the State Bar to oversee the CLE programs and their eligibility, assist with appeals and handle other administrative matters.

The Texas State Bar Association’s MCLE Committee is responsible for determining which CLE programs meet the criteria set forth by the State Bar for eligibility to receive credit. As part of its duties, the committee hears appeals and reviews decisions made by the State Bar staff. In addition, the committee periodically reviews the eligibility criteria.

Smith will begin his one-year term as Vice Chair of the MCLE Committee effective June 01, 2007.

A member in McGlinchey Stafford's Houston, Texas office, David Smith primarily focuses his practice on commercial and consumer financial services litigation. He has extensive experience with complex commercial litigation, including banking cases, receiverships, and consumer and commercial financial litigation. Smith is board certified in consumer and commercial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also past Chairman of the Houston Bar Association Commercial and Consumer Law Section and a frequent presenter on consumer finance issues.

Jay Shanker to Speak at Centennial Book Festival on Author-Publisher Contracts
jay Shanker, a veteran entertainment lawyer with McAfee & Taft, will speak on the topic of current publishing industry trends and author-publisher contracts at the upcoming Oklahoma Centennial Book Festival on Saturday, May 19, at the Oklahoma City University Meinders School of Business. The festival, which runs from 9am to 4pm, is an official Oklahoma Centennial event and free to the public.

Shanker will also team up with Fritz Kiersch, film director and artist in residence at OCU, to critique selected scenes from scripts submitted by festival participants.

Event keynote speaker is author Frank DeFord, senior contributing writer at Sports Illustrated and regular sports essayist for NPR's "Morning Edition." The award-winning reporter has been named "sportswriter of the year" six times by his peers.

Latham & Watkins Named to the BTI "Power Elite" Three Years in a Row
Latham & Watkins placed fourth in the 2007 BTI "Power Elite," which ranks law firms on client relationships, satisfaction and service. The study, conducted by the BTI Consulting Group, a research consultancy, polls more than 400 corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 companies. Benchmarked against 350 law firms, Latham & Watkins climbed into fourth position, from seventh place in 2006, based on the strength of its client relationships. According to the study, firms within the BTI "Power Elite" possess more primary relationships with large and Fortune 1000 clients, win more slots on clients' short lists, demonstrate prowess in "bet-the-company matters" and boast superior levels of client satisfaction.
