Mark R. Azman appointed as Vice Chair of the Minnesota Council of School Attorneys.
Mark R. Azman was recently appointed as Vice Chair of the Minnesota Council of School Attorneys. COSA is comprised of more than 90 Minnesota attorneys who represent school boards. The purpose of COSA is to foster the development and strengthen the legal representation of the state's school boards. Mark is proud to serve this organization, and looks forward to continuing his work with Minnesota school boards.

Mark Condon and Michael Skram keep David Ketroser out of Court.
Mark Condon and Mike Skram have been defending a large number of facet neurotomy cases involving Dr. David Ketroser. Their most recent case in Anoka County entitled Watson v. Western National (Court File No. C3-05-12923) resulted in Judge Barry Sullivan finding that the evidence (the radio-frequency neurotomy procedures) are generally accepted in the realm of the scientific community (Minnesota) but it did not have foundational reliability. Based on that, he granted our motion to exclude all testimony from Dr. Ketroser.

Henry Shields Named "Entertainment Lawyer of the Year" by Century City Bar Association
Recognizing his continued success in high-stakes entertainment industry litigation – including recent court victories for major television networks – the Century City Bar Association has named Henry Shields, Jr. its Entertainment Lawyer of the Year.

In his 30-year career in Irell & Manella's litigation group, Mr. Shields has repeatedly triumphed in jury trials and at the appellate level on behalf of entertainment industry clients. "We are extremely proud of Henry's track record and this award is well-deserved," said Irell managing partner David Siegel.

Mr. Shields recently won a jury trial involving issues of contingent compensation and vertical integration in the television industry. That verdict was upheld on appeal.

Mr. Shields has tried more than 30 cases to verdict or decision. In addition to his work in the entertainment area, he has substantial experience trying real estate cases.

Mr. Shields is President of the Board of Directors of the American Cinematheque, the largest non-profit film exhibitor in the world, devoted to preserving and showing films of historical and cultural importance. He assisted in the Cinematheque's acquisition and renovation of two landmark theaters in Los Angeles: the Egyptian Theatre (reopened in 1998) and the Aero Theatre (reopened in 2005). He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the L.A. Free Clinic, a non-profit entity that provides medical services to the indigent and uninsured.

Mr. Shields has served as chair of the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and a member of its Executive Committee. He was a member of the Ninth Circuit Gender Bias Task Force. He also served as a member of the Ninth Circuit Task Force on Racial, Religious and Ethnic Fairness.

Suzanne M. Boy Joins Henderson Franklin
The law firm of Henderson Franklin is pleased to announce that Suzanne M. Boy has recently joined the firm as an associate in the Fort Myers office. Boy will concentrate her practice in the area of commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Henderson Franklin as an associate, Boy worked as a summer associate at the Firm. She has also clerked for a law firm in St. Petersburg, Florida, and served as a federal judicial intern at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
In law school, Boy was honored each year as a Stetson Merit Scholar. She served as an editor of the Stetson Law Review, and was awarded the St. Petersburg Times Award for Best Law Review Write-on Competition Paper. Boy is a member of Phi Delta Phi, the legal honors fraternity.
