T&K Continues Expansion of Real Estate Practice
The international law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce Glenn A. Reitman has joined the Firm as an Associate in the Real Estate and Banking Group of the Houston office.

"Glenn's transactional real estate expertise in representing both developers and lenders is a tremendous asset to Thompson & Knight's rapidly growing real estate practice," says Alfred M. Meyerson, Chair of the Real Estate and Banking Practice Group.

Reitman's experience includes the representation of lenders in interim, construction, and permanent financing secured by or involving real estate projects. He has represented land owners in the phased acquisition, development financings, lease, management, and sale of planned residential mixed-use and commercial development. Additionally, Reitman has experience in general corporate transactions, private equity, and mergers and acquisitions.

Reitman received a J.D. from St. John's University School of Law in 2000 and a B.A. from the University of Houston in 1997. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, and is on the Board of Directors for the Houston Food Bank.

T&K Attorney Elected to Keller ISD Board of Trustees
Thompson & Knight is pleased to announce Partner Jason P. Wylie has been elected to the Keller ISD Board of Trustees. His three-year term will commence at the seating of new Board members on May 21, 2007.

The Keller ISD Board of Trustees is the governing body that provides leadership and vision for one of the fastest growing school districts in the State of Texas. It is made up of seven elected community members. Members of the Board of Trustees are elected for three-year terms. Annual elections are held the first Saturday in May and are staggered (i.e., two places one year, three the following, and two the next year). Board officers are elected the first meeting following the election.

Wylie is a Partner in the Trial Practice Group in Thompson & Knight's Fort Worth office. He focuses his practice on commercial litigation, oil and gas litigation, and insurance defense. His expertise encompasses breach of contract, personal injury, collection, arbitration, environmental, energy, and real estate matters, as well as injunctions. Wylie also represents clients in class action litigation.

Dana Debski Joins Cleveland Office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP
Dana M. Debski has joined the Cleveland office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP as an associate in the Workers’ Compensation Practice Area. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh and law degree from the University of Akron School of Law.

Debski, a resident of Canal Fulton, Ohio, was a hearing representative at Frank Gates Service Company in Akron prior to working at Taft.

SQUIRE SANDERS WELCOMES SUMMER ASSOCIATES
Global law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. announces that 62 summer associates will be joining the firm across 11 offices including placements in the firm’s Bratislava and Tokyo offices. This year’s diverse class of summer associates hails from 31 law schools and speaks 18 languages.

Squire Sanders’ summer associate program is built on hands-on experience. Summer associates are given the opportunity to participate in every aspect of the practice of law, from complex research to building client relationships. Simpson Thacher Represents Private Equity Investors in Precedent-Setting $610 Million Recapitalization of Doral Financial Corp. of Puerto Rico
Simpson Thacher is representing Bear Stearns and a newly-formed partnership through which Bear Stearns and other private equity investors will invest $610 million in Doral Financial Corp. The partnership will acquire a 90% stake in Doral Financial Corp., parent company of one of the largest banks in Puerto Rico, as part of a recapitalization transaction that will resolve Doral’s liquidity needs and restore it to financial soundness.

The transaction is a ground-breaking precedent for private equity investment in the financial services sector. The Simpson Thacher team developed an innovative investment structure for this transaction that allows the private equity investors to manage the company with majority representation on its board of directors but avoids the need for any of the investors to register with the Federal Reserve Board or other banking regulators. The proposed transaction is expected to close in mid-July.

Simpson Thacher Represents ITT in Sale of Its Switches Business
The Firm is representing ITT Corporation in the sale of its Switches Business to Littlejohn & Co. LLC for an undisclosed amount. The transaction is subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals and is expected to close in approximately three months.

The switches business manufactures switches, dome arrays, interface controls and keypads for a variety of industries including mobile communications, computer and automotive.

Huawei to Form Joint Venture with Symantec
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Symantec Corporation and Symantec Hardware Holdings LLC entered into a Contribution Agreement, pursuant to which Huawei and Symantec agreed to form a joint venture based in Hong Kong with an operating subsidiary in Chengdu, China. Huawei and Symantec intend that the joint venture be a leading global storage and security appliance and solutions provider for telecommunications carriers, enterprises and broadband access/wireless providers. In accordance with the terms of the Contribution Agreement, Huawei will contribute certain security and storage appliance assets (including operating assets and personnel) and Symantec will contribute $150 million in cash. Huawei and Symantec will initially own 51% and 49%, respectively, of the joint venture. However, Symantec will have an option to increase its ownership interest to 51% three years after the closing.

The transaction requires several PRC governmental approvals as well as certain U.S. export license approvals.

Shearman & Sterling is representing Huawei.
