Baker & McKenzie Reinforces its Dominant Position as the Leading Asia Pacific Law Firm
Baker & McKenzie’s member firms in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines received the highest rankings in Asialaw’s fourth annual ‘Top Local Law Firms in Asia’ Poll.

Baker & McKenzie’s Indonesia member firm, Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners, were ranked in every practice area, taking first place in Banking & Finance, Corporate & Commercial, IT, Telecommunications & Media and M&A. The Firm was recognized for its “specialized practice” in handling commercial litigation matters, and being “responsive to [client’s] needs and a worldwide network.”

In Malaysia, member firm Wong & Partners was ranked first in Banking & Finance, Corporate & Commerical and M&A, and placed second in IT, Telecommunications & Media. The Firm was said to be “responsive, proactive and solution-oriented.” Baker & McKenzie’s Philippines member firm Quisumbing Torres, meanwhile, ranked in three practice areas.

The results of the poll were based on more than 7,500 in-house counsel and 75 leading international law firms nominations of their favorite local counsel in six key practice areas—banking & finance, intellectual property, corporate & commercial, IT, telecommunications & media, dispute resolution and M&A. The poll comprised of the legal market in six jurisdictions: China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and South Korea.

“This is an outstanding recognition from our clients and peers of Baker & McKenzie’s strong capabilities in the Asia Pacific region,” said David Jacobs, Asia Pacific Chairman. “The results confirm Baker & McKenzie’s unrivalled experience in offering our clients local expertise backed by our global best practice.”

Last month, PLC Which lawyer? recognized Baker & McKenzie as the ‘Best Firm in Asia Pacific’ for the third consecutive year. In March 2007, the Firm’s Indonesia member firm was named ‘Indonesian Law Firm of the Year’ by IFLR for the seventh year in succession. In addition, the Firm’s China, Indonesia and Malaysia member firms also topped Asialaw’s ‘Best Law Firms to Work For’ survey in 2006.

Three WC&C Lawyers Named "Rising Stars"
Three Wasserman, Comden & Casselman L.L.P. lawyers have been named "Rising Stars" by Law & Politics and Los Angeles Magazines: Shannon M. Blair (Workers Compensation); Aster C. Chang (Family Law); Tim T. Chang (Corporate Finance).

The Southern California Rising Stars list was published in the September 2005 issue of Los Angeles Magazine, and was mailed to every lawyer, judge and corporate counsel in the state.

Only 2.5% of all Southern California lawyers receive this honor. "Rising Stars" are nominated by this year's Super Lawyers (the top 5% of attorneys in the state), who are asked to vote for the best attorneys who are either age 40 or younger, or have been in practice 10 years or less. An attorney-led research team then reviews the credentials of potential Rising Stars and assigns points based on a set of defined evaluation criteria. The research staff also confirms that nominees are properly licensed, in good standing with the State Bar , and, when possible, that they have no history of disciplinary action that would warrant removal from the list. The point totals from the general survey and research process are then added to arrive at a final tally. The lawyers are ranked by point totals and the list is cut until approximately 2.5 percent of the best up-and-coming attorneys in the state remain. The Rising Stars lists include both private practice attorneys and attorneys in non-private practice areas such as prosecutors, in-house counsel, judges and public service lawyers.
