Foley Madison Attorneys Named To The Best Lawyers In America® List
Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that 20 attorneys from its Madison office, including two retired partners, have been selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America®.

Two of Foley's retired partners, Michael H. Auen and Joseph P. Hildebrandt, were also recognized this year.

The number after attorneys' names indicates that they have been named to the Best Lawyers list for at least 10 or 20 consecutive years and the asterisk after their names denotes that this is the first year these attorneys have been listed.

The 2008 edition is the 14th edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Best Lawyers is based on peer-review surveys in which attorneys throughout the country cast nearly a half million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their specialties. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.”

Nationwide, 156 Foley attorneys were selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in a broad array of legal areas.

Thomas Engellenner analyzes new patent rules
Thomas Engellenner, co-chair of the firm’s Patent and Life Sciences practice group, published, “U.S. Patent office's new rules are way off the mark,” in the August 31 issue of Mass High Tech. The article discusses how the new patent rules will affect the majority of patent applications and dramatically change the current practices. Tom goes on to say that as a result of these rules, a million unexamined patent applications may become a million rejected patent applications on appeal, clogging the administrative and judicial review process. The hope is that Congress will step in where the patent office failed.
