T&K Attorneys Assist Leading Hotel Company in $1.3 Billion Sale
The international law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP has assisted Accor, the leading European hotel operator, with its sale of Red Roof Inn (341 hotels - 36,683 rooms) to a consortium comprised of Citi's Global Special Situations Group and Westbridge Hospitality Fund L.P. for $1.313 Billion.

Thompson & Knight attorneys who assisted with the real estate aspects of the transaction are Stephen B. Norris, Paul E. Comeaux, and Meg Squiers.

Norris is a Partner in the Firm's Corporate and Securities Practice Group and focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, and various types of financings including global joint ventures and acquisitions.

Comeaux is a Partner in the Firm's Real Estate Practice Group and focuses his practice on commercial real estate acquisition, divestiture, development, leasing financing, and construction law. As part of his practice, he structures and negotiates complex partnership and company agreements.

Squiers is an Attorney in the Firm's Real Estate Practice Group and focuses her practice on real estate transactions.

Fifty-Two Taft Attorneys Selected For Best Lawyers in America
The Taft Law Firm announced today that 52 of its attorneys have been selected by their peers to be included in the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, considered to be the one of the most respected and unbiased source of legal referrals in the world.

"One out of four Taft attorneys has been recognized as a top performer in Best Lawyers this year,” said Tom Terp, managing partner at Taft Law. “This honor reflects the high level of performance and results our attorneys deliver for our clients on a daily basis.” Terp went on to say many of its attorneys have been selected for multiple years. “We have 20 attorneys who have been recognized for the past 20 years in a row, and ten who have made the list for a decade – that’s a testament to these attorneys’ commitment to legal excellence over time.”

The 2008 issue is the 14th edition of the publication. Lawyers are selected for inclusion based on an exhaustive and rigorous peer-review survey developed and refined over the past 25 years. The results are based on 2.1 million confidential evaluations by only the top attorneys in the country. Best Lawyers also conducted thousands of extensive telephone interviews with leading attorneys throughout its
balloting process.

Taft “Best Lawyers” by the numbers:

* 52 attorneys were named to the list in 2008; 50 were recognized in 2007.
* Taft was ranked #1 in Cincinnati in Commercial Litigation with nine attorneys; in Labor and Employment Law with six attorneys; and in Trusts and Estates with four attorneys.
* Taft has 20 attorneys who have been listed for 20 years and 10 who have been the list for the past 10 years.
* Three Taft attorneys, Charles Lindberg, Robert Stachler and Stephen Nechemias, have been selected for inclusion since the beginning of The Best Lawyers in America.

Seyfarth Shaw Expands Employee Benefits Practice Group with Addition of Gregory D. Renberg as Partner
Seyfarth Shaw LLP, one of America’s leading full-service law firms, announced today that Gregory D. Renberg has joined the firm as a partner in its Employee Benefits Department based in the firm’s Houston office. He was previously a partner at Conner & Winters.

Renberg represents large public companies and has in-depth knowledge of complex employee benefits matters, including qualified plans, welfare plans, executive compensation and corporate mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. He has negotiated employee benefits issues related to qualified defined contribution and defined benefit, nonqualified, severance, stock option, bonus, fringe benefit and health plans in corporate mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. Renberg has also designed and drafted various qualified retirement plans, trust agreements, plan amendments, “window” retirement programs, welfare benefits plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, stock option and restricted stock agreements, employment agreements, HIPAA documentation, bonus plans and plan reimbursement procedures. In addition to his ERISA work, Renberg is a licensed CPA, which has aided him in representing companies in state and federal tax controversies and audits.

DLA Piper advises HSBC Bank plc on the 3i backed acquisition of Bestinvest (Holdings) Limited
DLA Piper has advised HSBC Bank plc on its provision of £78,800,000 senior and mezzanine debt funding, which was utilised in part to fund the acquisition of Bestinvest (Holdings) Limited. Bestinvest is one of the UK's most successful independent investment management and financial advisory businesses and currently looks after client assets exceeding £3.7 billion. The private equity funding was provided by 3i and management.

HSBC Bank plc is an existing client of DLA Piper.

The DLA Piper team advising HSBC Bank was led by banking partner, John Cutler. He was assisted by banking lawyer, Ewen Scott. John Cutler said: "The initial stages of the transaction involved a time-critical competitive bid process which required first-rate project management and this is an area in which we have a proven capability."

DLA Piper assists aAIM in German retail acquisition
DLA Piper has assisted its long-term client, aAIM in connection with the acquisition of €700m worth of German retail properties.

The retail portfolios include 34 DIY stores let to Praktiker, 15 department stores let to SinnLeffers as well as that company's corporate headquarters. Those properties were bought from Luxembourg based investment companies advised by Curzon Global Partners. The purchase follows on from June this year when aAIM, assisted by DLA Piper, was also involved in the purchase of 3 shopping centres in Germany, Czech Republic and Hungary in €500m of deals. aAIM's European deal tally in the last three months is now in excess of €1.2bn.

Robert Whitton of aAIM commented: "We are delighted with the acquisition of these portfolios, which offer strong long term cash flows underpinned by prime High Street and out of town retail property. Germany is in a period of recovery, ten years of rental decline has ended and created a low base for rents and producing an outstanding property investment opportunity".

Sean Scanlon, DLA Piper's lead UK corporate partner on this deal commented: "aAIM are now starting to play regularly in the wider European market and we have been pleased to be able to leverage our European full service offering to support them as they do so."

Martin Schulte, DLA Piper's lead German corporate partner on this deal commented: "The German macroeconomic backdrop is encouraging astute property investors as the sick man of Europe 'recovers'. After 2.8% growth in 2006, a similar figure is on the cards for this year. We are delighted to assist our client aAIM during this busy time."

George Wolfe Resumes South Carolina-Focused Practice
Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough Partner George B. Wolfe has returned to Columbia to resume full-time his South Carolina-focused practice after three years as managing partner of the Firm's Washington office. He will focus primarily on economic development issues along with corporate and governmental law.

"I have spent most of my professional life working to promote economic development in South Carolina, and it is great to move back home to rededicate myself fully to that mission," Mr. Wolfe said.

Mr. Wolfe oversaw the Washington office's growth after its opening in 2004 to its current 23 attorneys and governmental consultants. He will continue to represent clients in Washington.

Mr. Wolfe chairs the Firm's Economic Development Practice Group. He has represented numerous foreign and domestic companies making new or expanded investments in South Carolina, including some of the largest investments in the history of the state. For his work in economic development, Mr. Wolfe has twice been awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award given by a South Carolina governor, and the South Carolina Department of Revenue Public Service Award.

Mr. Wolfe returned to Nelson Mullins in 2004 after serving three years in the administration of President George W. Bush as Deputy General Counsel and Counselor to the Secretary for the Department of the Treasury.
