Amy McDaniel Williams selected for Leadership Metro Richmond Class of 2007-08
As part of the 64-member comprised of an accomplished group, Williams will collaborate on a variety of community projects selected from dozens proposed by nonprofit organizations throughout central Virginia, as a member of one of seven community action groups.

“We are looking forward to dealing with some real, current issues,"said Tina Egge, the group's president. "We are going to look at sustainability in the environment and health care, among other things. Those are two issues that are current and pertinent that the curriculum team has chosen to do this year.”

Williams is a partner with the business practice group of Hunton & Williams. In addition, she is Chair of the firm's Ethics in Marketing Committee and Co-Chair of its Diversity Strategies Committee. She also serves as pro bono General Counsel and President Elect of the Maymont Foundation.

Paul Seltman to Speak on Employer-Mandated Universal Health Care.
Paul Seltman, counsel in the Washington office, will participate in a live webcast debate on national health care reform at 10-11:30 a.m. EDT on Oct. 3 at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.

Moderated by bestselling author and physician Robin Cook, the other speakers include James Marone of Brown University and Michael Cannon from the Cato Institute. Paul will be speaking on an employer-mandated approach to universal heath care that he outlined in an article that appeared in Covering America: Real Remedies for the Uninsured, Volume III. The debate is being co-sponsored by the Wilson Center and the Global Health Initiative. The event is open to the public in addition to being webcast.

John Van Fossen Joins Clark Hill PLC as Director of Governmental Affairs
John Van Fossen has joined the Lansing office of Clark Hill PLC as Director of Governmental Affairs, firm CEO John Hern announced.

Van Fossen most recently served as Director of Public Affairs for the Van Andel Institute, a private cancer research institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Prior to joining the Van Andel Institute in 2004. Van Fossen served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Pete Hoekstra, (R-MI). As Chief of Staff, Van Fossen was responsible for advising the Congressman on all political and public policy matters, developing the office’s legislative agenda and strategy, and managing the day to day operations of four congressional offices in Michigan and Washington, D.C. During his tenure with Congressman Hoekstra, Van Fossen worked as the primary staff liaison for the Congressman to the House Budget Committee, House Education and Workforce Committee, House leadership offices, Republican Study Committee, the executive branch, local and national labor unions, education reform groups and city, county and state governments.

Van Fossen has also served for the past 3 years as a Vice President for a federal public policy and governmental advocacy firm where he served as a key advisor and advocate for several clients in Washington, DC.

Van Fossen has more than fifteen years of experience working in local, state and federal governments, as well as the non-profit sector, and he has developed an extensive background in organizational leadership, project management and governmental advocacy. Van Fossen began his career in local government focusing on city management and economic development where he was responsible for overseeing a wide variety of commercial and industrial development and redevelopment initiatives, including the construction of a 1.2 million square foot regional mall and the successful revitalization of several Brownfield sites.

Van Fossen received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Masters in Public Administration from Western Michigan University.

Cadwalader Welcomes New Special Counsel
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP announced that Assia Damianova has joined the firm’s London office as Special Counsel in the Capital Markets Department.

“Assia’s skill and experience working with structured transactions will be an asset to the Capital Markets Department,” said Robert O. Link Jr., Cadwalader’s Chairman and Managing Partner. “As a leader in the field, the Capital Markets Department looks for the best and brightest, and Assia certainly fits that description.”

Ms. Damianova said. “I am excited about joining a firm like Cadwalader. The successes and innovations of the firm’s Capital Markets Department are well-known, and I am proud to be a part of it. I look forward to working with such accomplished professionals.”

Prior to joining Cadwalader, Ms. Damianova was a solicitor at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood in London, where she focused her practice on synthetic structured transactions, including CDOs, CLOs, CDO-squareds, CDOs of ABS, correlation trades, credit derivatives, total return swaps, and various innovative synthetic structures. She has advised arrangers, collateral managers, monoline insurers, and other protection sellers and investors, on a variety of derivatives, insurance, banking and securities and cross-border collateral issues. Ms. Damianova also has worked on equity derivatives; hedging in respect of cash CDOs and advised funds on contracts for differences, security lending agreements and other trading arrangements. Prior to joining Sidley Austin, she spent five years as a solicitor for Baker & McKenzie in London.

Ms. Damianova is a graduate of the University of Sofia, Cardiff Law College at the University of Wales, and the College of Law at Chester.

Bryan Cave LLP Earns Recognition as a Top Trademark Firm
In NameProtect’s Trademark Insider year-end wrap up of leading law firms, companies and practitioners, Bryan Cave LLP was recognized as one of the top 25 firms in the country for handling U.S. trademark applications. Bryan Cave ranked 23rd on the Trademark Insider list of top 200 law firms.

Bryan Cave has long had a strong reputation for handling all aspects of trademark work, but the firm’s recent quick expansion in the trademark arena was reflected by the publication’s identification of Bryan Cave as one of the “Top 10 Law Firm Advances” of the year. Bryan Cave passed 47 firms from a year ago, moving from 70th place to 23rd this year.

Trademark Insider also highlighted one of Bryan Cave’s trademark lawyers, Todd Braverman, who received recognition as one of the nation’s top 50 trademark attorneys for 2006 (based upon the number of applications filed). Braverman is ranked at No. 30 nationwide.
