Drinker Biddle Partner Mark Nelson Named Among Top 100 Labor Attorneys.
Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP Partner Mark D. Nelson has been named one of the Top 100 Labor Attorneys in the United States for 2007 by Labor Relations Institute, Inc.

Included in the list are the top one percent of labor lawyers in the nation, making them the most active attorneys representing companies in National Labor Relations Board-monitored elections. Nelson was named to this list from more than 8,600 attorneys evaluated by Labor Relations Institute, with the “Top 100” honor determined by the number of NLRB elections in which each lawyer provided representation and by the success of those election outcomes.

Nelson has represented management in labor relations and employment discrimination law for 25 years. He has particular experience representing employers in union avoidance, union organizing campaigns, labor disputes and unfair labor practice proceedings.

Nelson also has considerable experience representing employers in arbitration hearings on issues such as discharge, discipline, contract interpretation and management rights. He has negotiated many collective bargaining agreements, including initial contracts and successor agreements, for employers in the health care, manufacturing and service industries. He regularly provides advice and counsel regarding contract administration and interpretation to clients who have collective bargaining relationships, as well as clients who wish to avoid them.

Nelson has also represented employers in matters before state and federal agencies and courts on virtually all types of discrimination claims, retaliatory discharge suits, breach of contract actions, and wage and hour cases, among others. He has beenretained to serve as special investigative counsel in several sensitive sexual harassment matters. He provides advice and counsel to employers on the many labor and
employment challenges they face on a day-to-day basis, and is a frequent speaker regarding labor relations matters, sexual harassment, effective discipline and other subjects.

“It is an honor to be recognized as a member of such an elite group of attorneys,” said Nelson. He has also been elected to Leading Lawyers Network of Illinois by his peers. He serves on the boards of several community and nonprofit organizations including the board of a large tertiary medical center in suburban Chicago.

Dickstein Shapiro Named One of The Best Companies For GLBT Equality
Firm Awarded 100% Corporate Equality Index Rating By Human Rights Campaign.

(Washington, DC)—Dickstein Shapiro LLP was named one of the country’s best places to work for equality with respect to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) people, in a survey released today by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The firm was given a prestigious 100 percent Corporate Equality Index rating.

“We have made it our mission to create a supportive and inclusive firm culture for all of our employees,” said Michael Nannes, Dickstein Shapiro’s Chairman. “I am proud that Dickstein Shapiro is among this elite group.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index is a comprehensive analysis of corporate policies and practices nationwide that are pertinent to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees. The ratings are based on numerous factors including non-discrimination policies, diversity training, and benefits for domestic partners and transgender employees. In the 2008 Index, 519 companies are rated on a scale of zero to 100, and Dickstein Shapiro is one of only six Washington, DC-based organizations to receive a ranking of 100 percent.

“More businesses than ever before have recognized the value of a diverse and dedicated workforce,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “More importantly, these employers understand that discrimination against GLBT workers will ultimately hurt their ability to compete in the global marketplace.”

Dickstein Shapiro has a steadfast commitment to fostering a diverse work environment in which racial and ethnic minorities, women, disabled individuals, and people of varying sexual orientations and gender identities enjoy an atmosphere of inclusion and respect. The firm has been recognized for its efforts by both clients and myriad independent publications. Most recently, Dickstein Shapiro was recognized by Vault as the top firm for overall diversity and the number six firm nationwide for diversity with respect to the GLBT community. In 2006, the firm was awarded the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s prestigious Thomas L. Sager Award for the Mid-Atlantic Region. The firm also has been recognized numerous times as one of Washington, DC’s “Best Places to Work” by the Washington Business Journal, and a “Great Place to Work” by Washingtonian magazine.

Those named to the list represent less than one-half of one percent of attorneys in the legal profession, placing them among the most elite group of legal professionals.

Lawdragon uses a combination of online balloting and independent research to compile its guide as well as interviews online ballots. Both the quality and quantity votes are considered, with, for example, more weight given to a corporate counsel than to a partner in the nominee's firm. The company seeks to assemble a guide that reflects geographic and practice diversity, while always underscoring excellence.

Cadwalader Scores Another Groundbreaking First in China
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP has secured another lead role in China by advising on the first USD 4 billion (approximately RMB 30 billion)Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor ("QDII") investment fund product offering under the provisional QDII regulations, recently promulgated by the China Securities and Regulatory Commission (the “CSRC”) in June 2007.

In this landmark transaction, partner Angus Duncan, assisted by Yong Kai Wong from Cadwalader’s London office and partner Mark Roppel, assisted by Jem Li and Carol Niu Xiaohui from Cadwalader’s Beijing office, advised China Southern Fund Management Co., Ltd (“China Southern”), one of the largest fund management companies in China.

Under the QDII regime, domestic institutions are allowed to convert Renminbi Yuan currency raised from PRC domestic investors into foreign currency to be invested overseas. The promulgation of these provisional regulations clarified the legislative framework under which domestic Renminbi Yuan fund raising could be carried out by QDII fund management companies and the range of investments (which include equities, debt securities and derivatives) towards which such funds could be applied.

The fund was heavily oversubscribed with China Southern raising commitments of USD 6.6 billion (approximately RMB 50 billion) for its USD 4 billion China Southern Dynamic Allocation Fund. China Southern will invest the funds in the global equity markets through a variety of investment instruments such as exchange traded funds. The investment focus of the China Southern Dynamic Allocation Fund will be on five mature financial markets which include the US Hong Kong and five emerging markets -- Russia, India, Brazil, Malaysia and South Korea.

Cadwalader also previously advised on the pilot QDII fund management transaction launched by the China Securities and Regulatory Commission that was managed Hua An Fund Management Co., Ltd, another leading Chinese fund management company in November
2006.
