Thacher Proffitt Announces New Partner, Penny Matthews Groel
Thacher Proffitt announced today that the Firm elected Penny Matthews Groel to the partnership, effective January 1, 2006. Penny is a member of the Structured Finance Practice Group.

Since joining the firm in 1988 as an Associate, Penny has represented issuers, underwriters and trustees in the public offering and private placement of mortgage- and asset-backed securities. She also represents corporate clients as sellers, purchasers and servicers in connection with whole loan transactions and as borrowers under various financing facilities. She also has experience in secured lending, lease financing and general corporate matters.

"We are delighted to welcome Penny into the partnership," said Paul Tvetenstrand, managing partner of Thacher Proffitt. "Penny has been a great asset to both the Structured Finance department as well as to the Firm, and I am looking forward to her continued success."

Penny received her JD from New York University School of Law in 1988, and her BS from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1985. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and California.

Thacher Proffitt Announces the Promotions of Gregory P. Murphy and Michael J. Vitolo to Counsel
Thacher Proffitt announced that both Gregory P. Murphy and Michael J. Vitolo have been named Counsel to the Real Estate Practice Group, effective January 1, 2006. They both reside in the White Plains office.

Patty Pryor Appointed To Community Resource Center Board Of Trustees
CINCINNATI, OH., Patricia A. Pryor, a partner in the Labor Department of Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Community Resource Center.
Pryor, a resident of Bethel, Ohio, received her undergraduate degree form Ohio University, graduating
magna cum laude
and Phi Beta Kappa. She received her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, graduating Order of the Coif. While in law school Pryor served on the Editorial Board of the University of Cincinnati Law Review.
Pryor represents and advises employers in the litigation of federal and state labor and employment matters, in federal and state administrative proceedings and arbitrations, and in managing all aspects of the employment relationship. She is a frequent speaker at legal seminars and to employers and professional groups. Pryor is admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Johnson and VanOrman named as Practice Group Leaders
Strong & Hanni is pleased to announce Brian C. Johnson as the new Employment Practice Group Leader and Kristin A. VanOrman as the new Auto/Premises Practice Group Leader.

Brian C. Johnson received his B.S. in 1977 from BrighamYoungUniversity where he graduated magna cum laude, was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, a recipient of the Alvina Barrett Academic Scholarship, and was on the Dean’s List. He received his J.D. from the University of California Hastings in 1980, where he was admitted to the Order of the Coif and was a member of the Thurston Honor Society. He received his LLM from the University of Chicago in 2002. He became a member of the California State Bar in 1981 and the Utah State Bar in 1983. Mr. Johnson’s areas of practice include Commercial Litigation, Labor & Employment, and Antitrust.

Kristin A. VanOrman received a B.S. in Psychology in 1992 and a J.D. in 1995, graduating cum laude, from BrighamYoungUniversity. She served as Editor in Chief of Brigham Young University Journal of Law and Education from 1994-1995. She became a member of the Utah State Bar; U.S. District Court, District of Utah; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit in 1995. Her areas of practice include Insurance Defense, Civil Litigation, Labor & Employment, and Governmental Liability.

Butzel Long President Philip J. Kessler named to the American College of Trial Lawyers Board of Regents
DETROIT, Mich. – Butzel Long President and Director Philip J. Kessler has been named to the Board of Regents of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and will serve a four-year term. Mr. Kessler has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1996.
The American College of Trial Lawyers is a premier professional organization comprised of the best trial lawyers in the U.S. and Canada.
The organization’s current membership includes 5,400 lawyers and Judicial Fellows.
Mr. Kessler has engaged actively in trial work for 33 years. He has concentrated on the prosecution and defense of a wide variety of important business disputes on behalf of individuals, partnerships, and private and public corporations. Areas in which Mr. Kessler has had significant experience include anti-trust litigation, audit malpractice, bankruptcy litigation, contract litigation, corporate control contests, distributorship litigation, false advertising claims, health care and pharmaceutical counseling and litigation; intellectual property litigation (including copyright, trademark, trade secrets and unfair competition and patent infringement claims), intra-corporate and partnership disputes, merger and acquisition related litigation, probate and trust litigation and securities fraud claims.

Mr. Kessler also is a Fellow of The International Society of Barristers, a Life member of the United States Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. He has served as a member and Chair of the Local Rules Advisory Committee of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan; taught contract and business litigation as an Associate Professor at the Detroit College of Law; lectured on business litigation and served as a mediator and facilitator for the Oakland County Circuit Court.
He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Business Litigation) since 1987, is ranked as one of America’s leading business lawyers in litigation by the Chambers USA Guide, and also is listed in Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the World and The International Who’s Who of Commercial Litigators.
