Granwell and Rogers join DLA Piper's Tax practice
DLA Piper US LLP announced that Alan Granwell and Phil Rogers have joined the firm's Tax practice group as partners. Granwell is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office and Rogers is based in the firm's New York office.

The addition of Granwell and Rogers represents the latest milestone in the firm's increasing investment in the international tax field. With international tax practitioners in the United States, U.K., Europe and Asia, DLA Piper has positioned itself as one of the few truly global tax advisers.

Granwell represents U.S. and foreign multi-national groups, as well as U.S. and foreign high-net-worth individuals, investing or conducting business in the United States and abroad. He regularly represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Treasury Department.

Rogers advises companies on their international tax planning, including a wide range of cross-border issues such as transfer pricing, repatriation planning, restructuring, global supply chain planning and federal taxes. He has represented numerous Fortune 100 companies.

"Alan and Phil are highly respected attorneys with extraordinary commitment to client service," said Stephen Owen, chair of DLA Piper's Tax practice group. "They will contribute greatly to the continued growth and sophistication of our international tax practice and provide us access to key decision makers throughout the world."

Granwell has practiced in the area of international taxation for over 35 years. Before joining DLA Piper, he was a partner with Ivins, Phillips & Barker Chartered. Previously, he was international tax counsel and director for the Office of International Tax Affairs of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In this capacity, he was responsible for advising the assistant secretary for tax policy on legislation, regulations, and administrative matters involving international taxation and directing the U.S. tax treaty program.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to further the development of DLA Piper's rapidly expanding tax practice group in Washington, D.C.," said Granwell. "The firm's global platform offers the increasingly important capability to serve clients across national borders."

He earned a J.D. from Boston University and an LL.M in taxation from both Boston University and New York University. Granwell is a frequent author and lecturer on international tax matters. He is also a member of the Board of Visitors of the Boston University School of Law.

Rogers comes to DLA Piper from Ernst & Young LLP, where he had been a partner in the international tax practice since 1983. He earned a J.D. and M.B.A. from Hofstra University and an LL.M in Taxation from New York University. He is a member of the New York Bar.

"I am enthusiastic about working within the firm's New York office to build on the already strong reputation that DLA Piper's tax practice group has built," said Rogers. "As cross-border tax issues are becoming increasingly complex and prevalent in today's global business environment, it was important for me to join a firm with premier global capabilities. I found that in DLA Piper."

DLA Piper's Tax practice group has over 125 attorneys globally. The firm's International Tax practice encompasses all aspects of cross-border transactions, business operations, transfer pricing and tax controversy issues.
