Thacher Proffitt acted as counsel to Citigroup Securities Markets, the underwriter for Controladora Mabe, the Mexican white goods group. Controladora Mabe has completed its first issuance of bonds in the US market with a $200 million offering, which closed on November 17, 2005.

The team included Marc Rossell, Stephanie Nygard, Cynthia Mann, Costa Skarvelis, Micah Acoba and Jeremy Dyme.

Stone Pigman Lawyer Carmelite M. Bertaut Assumes the Role of President of the New Orleans Bar Association
Stone Pigman lawyer Carmelite M. Bertaut was inducted as President of the New Orleans Bar Association at the Organization's Annual Dinner Meeting on January 5, 2006.

Ms. Bertaut joined Stone Pigman in 2004 and concentrates her practice in the field of products liability with particular emphasis in mass torts and complex litigation. She graduated from the Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 1977 and graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of New Orleans in 1974.

Ms. Bertaut has held numerous positions in the New Orleans Bar Association including chairing the Bench Bar, Publications, Continuing Legal Education, Lawyer Referral Service, Public Relations and Women's Committees. She received the Association’s 2003 Outstanding Service Award. Ms. Bertaut is a Master Barrister in the New Orleans Bar Association American Inn of Court and served as the Inn’s President (1997 – 2003).

In addition to her bar involvement with the bar association, Ms. Bertaut is a fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, and the Association of Women Attorneys. Ms. Bertaut serves as co-chair of the Woman Advocate Committee of the Section of Litigation of the ABA Section of Litigation. She has previously served as co-chair of the Woman Advocate Committee’s Rainmakers and Mentoring Interest Groups. Ms. Bertaut is an active speaker and lecturer and has served on the faculty of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy. Her views on the defense and management of mass torts have been published nationally by the Defense Research Institute. She has served as an Alumni Association Officer and as a Charter Member of the Board of Visitors for the University of New Orleans’s College of Liberal Arts.

RSKO is pleased to announce the election of three new partners -- William P. Barry, Neil S. Binder and Eva Marie Carney were elected as partners as of January 1, 2006.

WILLIAM P. BARRY’S practice focuses on complex securities enforcement and white collar criminal defense. Mr. Barry has extensive experience representing Audit Committees, public companies and members of senior management with respect to internal investigations, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act issues, and complex securities enforcement matters. He regularly represents clients in connection with Department of Justice, SEC and other government entity investigations. Prior to joining RSKO, Mr. Barry focused on complex criminal and civil litigation at Rochon & Roberts. He has appeared in numerous federal and state courts and administrative proceedings, including both trial and appellate matters.

NEIL S. BINDER’S practice focuses on complex commercial and securities litigation. He has extensive trial and appellate experience and has handled securities, financial, constitutional, telecommunications, employment, civil rights, bankruptcy, and tax matters. For four years prior to joining RSKO, Mr. Binder was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

EVA MARIE CARNEY advises clients in connection with investigations, enforcement and disciplinary proceedings, and provides regulatory advice and develops policies and procedures to achieve compliance with the federal securities laws and other regulations. She brings to her representations over thirteen years of experience as a regulator at the Securities and Exchange Commission. At the SEC, she served as an appellate lawyer in the Office of the General Counsel; as Assistant General Counsel overseeing appeals of SRO delistings, access denials and disciplinary matters and appeals of litigated SEC Enforcement cases; and as Senior Counsel in its Division of Investment Management.

Jonathan Yates Joins Nexsen Pruet; Expands Real Estate and Telecommunications Practice
Jonathan L. Yates has joined Nexsen Pruet, LLC as a member in the firm's Charleston office, where he will focus his practice on telecommunications and land use law.

Yates' background in the telecommunications industry includes matters related to placing wireless networks in multiple states. In his land-use practice, he has assisted in the permitting of large multi-use commercial developments and has appeared extensively before county planning commissions and councils in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Coastal Georgia.

"I've always had a good working relationship with Nexsen Pruet when I practiced elsewhere. And over the past several years I've watched this firm grow and expand throughout the Carolinas," said Yates. "I am very pleased to be a part of this legal team."

Yates earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Previously, Yates was of counsel with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough in Charleston.

"Jonathan brings a broad-based set of skills and experience to our firm," said Leighton Lord, chairman of the board of Nexsen Pruet. "His work covers a variety of issues in both of his practice areas, and he will help expand the services we provide to our clients."

Yates is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Planning Association, the Charleston County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association. Additionally, he has lectured on environmental issues as part of the Continuing Engineering Education Program at Clemson University’s College of Engineering.
