Cozen O’Connor Attorneys Designated "Rising Stars" by Washington Law & Politics
SEATTLE – January 20, 2006 – Cozen O’Connor Seattle office attorneys Michael G. Ballnik and Ramona Hunter were recently selected as "Rising Stars" by Washington Law & Politics magazine. The magazine polls Washington’s Super Lawyers, who represent the top 5 percent of attorneys in the state, to identify up-and-coming lawyers who are 40 years old or younger and have been in practice 10 or fewer years. Only the top 2.5 percent of Washington lawyers are honored with this distinction each year.

Ballnik, a member of the firm’s insurance litigation department, concentrates his practice in insurance coverage matters involving bad faith, class actions and multidistrict litigation, commercial general liability, directors' and officers' liability and property insurance. Prior to joining Cozen O’Connor, Ballnik served as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Washington. A resident of Seattle, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Manitoba (B.A., 1993), and his law degree, with distinction, from the University of North Dakota School of Law (J.D., 1997), where he was a member of the North Dakota Law Review. He is admitted to practice in Washington state and before U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington.

Hunter, an associate in the firm’s insurance litigation department, concentrates her practice in employment, medical malpractice and insurance litigation. She represents both private employers and government entities involved in complex employment disputes. In addition, she counsels clients regarding their insurance coverage obligations and defends against fraudulent claims. A resident of Seattle, Hunter earned her undergraduate degree, with distinction, from the University of Washington (B.A., magna cum laude, 1998), where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her law degree from the University of Washington School of Law (J.D., 2001), where she served as an editor for the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal. While in law school, she completed an externship at the Seattle Office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Hunter is admitted to practice in Washington state.
