Covington Assists in Identification of Suspects in Internet Fraud Matter
WASHINGTON, D.C., January 25, 2006 - Today, Covington & Burling recognizes the tremendous effort and dedication of the Bulgarian National Services to Combat Organized Crime (NSCOC) agency and Microsoft Corporation, for the January 18-19 police raid that resulted in the arrest of eight individuals allegedly involved in an international criminal network that used the Internet to steal personal data and commit financial fraud.

Working closely with Microsoft and law enforcement, Covington's Global Internet Enforcement team supported efforts to identify the alleged group that specialized in creating false web pages mirroring the design, logo and trademarks of official "Microsoft Billing Account Management" pages. By inviting users to update personal financial data on these sites, they allegedly managed to make purchases and express money transfers on behalf of US, UK, and German card holders.

Covington's Global Internet Enforcement team is widely recognized for its depth and breadth of expertise. The team combines full-time, multi-lingual Internet investigators with specialized IT skills and access to advanced IT tools, with attorneys well versed in the laws pertaining to the Internet, cyber crime and new technologies. Their experience in fighting all types of Internet fraud, distinctive among law firms, stems from their long involvement in global Internet monitoring and enforcement programs on behalf of some of the world's largest intellectual property rights holders. In recognition of the team's unique skills, Covington was recently awarded "Best Achievement in Protecting IP on the Internet" at the 2005 WORLDleaders' European IP Awards.

BUSINESS STRATEGIES TO MANAGE ELECTRICITY COSTS
Philadelphia, January 25, 2006 - As a result of the recent rise in energy prices due in part to hurricanes Katrina and Wilma, knowing how to choose an electric energy supplier has become even more important for industrial and commercial consumers. Blank Rome LLP is working with clients to keep them informed on how to examine and negotiate their electric energy contracts in order to enhance value and reduce contingent liability in today's dynamic energy market.

Ron Fisher, a Blank Rome partner who focuses on the energy industry, has extensive experience in counseling clients on energy matters, including both electricity suppliers and consumers. "The consumer's goal is to fix its electricity costs for a stated term at as low a cost as possible," said Fisher. "But low cost without certainty of delivery has little value. Businesses need to review their energy supply contracts to ensure they are locked in."

Deregulation of the electricity generation market in many states resulted in a number of electric energy suppliers offering alternative generation supply at competitive rates. While many consumers focus on pricing terms alone, knowing who you are buying from and understanding the terms of the contract are critical to keeping business costs to a minimum.

"The increasing number of market participants engaged in supplying electric energy results in the availability of a wide variety of terms and conditions," said Fisher. "By focusing on them, in addition to the all-important price terms, savvy industrial and commercial consumers can enhance the value of their electricity supply arrangements."

Bingham McCutchen Discusses the 2006 Distressed Debt Market Outlook for North America
NEW YORK -- On January 25, 2006, Bingham McCutchen welcomed leading members of the financial news media to discuss the implications of the "2006 Distressed Debt Market Outlook for North America." Bingham, along with Chanin Capital Partners, commissioned Debtwire to perform the study. The landmark survey provides unique expectations and forecasts from the top hedge funds, brokers and advisors active in the distressed space.
Evan Flaschen, co-head of Bingham's Financial Restructuring Group, spoke at the panel discussion about distressed lenders and the impact of the recent amendments to the Bankruptcy Code. He was joined on the panel by Mark Rubin, managing director of Chanin Capital Partners; and Matt Wirz, editor of Debtwire, North America.
The study was undertaken by interviewing 124 of the largest players in the distressed debt market to get their perspectives on what 2006 will bring. The final report provides a contrarian point of view to the sunny forecasts trumpeted by economists and asset managers alike at the beginning of each New Year.
Among the findings:
• Distressed investors plan to play it safe in 2006. As liquidity tightens, buyers of distressed assets expect the unsecured bond market to correct downward and will shift their allocations toward secured bank loans that can better withstand market volatility.
• With bonds relatively overvalued at present, distressed specialists are also expanding their investment strategies to include equities.
• Investors expect an increase in distressed and restructuring activity to be concentrated in the automotive, packaging and healthcare sectors in 2006.
• While distressed investors are bearish on bonds, they expect only a moderate increase in default rates this year followed by a sharp increase in 2007 as tighter lending and large maturities take their toll.

"It's our real-world business knowledge combined with an in-depth understanding of the law that sets us apart," says Walt Addison Linscott, partner and team leader of the Life Sciences division of Thompson Hine. "Our style is not ‘business as usual.'"

"For example, every Wednesday at 5 pm, we open our doors to business associates who wish to stop by and chat with our lawyers, off the meter. This is just one of the many ways we are different from other corporate law firms – we are interested in their business, not in just getting their business. Most of all, it's the kind of lawyers we hire – lawyers who come from business, who understand business, and can bring this business view to our clients," added Linscott.

The firm's Atlanta office will primarily focus on the life sciences, but will also serve a full spectrum of clients in public and private corporations, financial institutions, governments, non-profit organizations, venture capitalists and individual entrepreneurs.
