ATLANTA, January 25, 2006 - King & Spalding LLP, a leading international law firm, announced today that 20 of its lawyers have been named to Georgia Trend magazine's "Legal Elite" - a list of Georgia attorneys chosen by their peers as the leading lawyers in their practice areas.

To compile the "Legal Elite" list, Georgia Trend distributed ballots to several thousand attorneys who are members of the state bar association asking them to name the most effective lawyers in various practice areas. Ballots were tallied by the Georgia Trend editorial staff, resulting in a list of 275 attorneys named in 10 practice areas, including 20 King & Spalding attorneys in nine practice areas.

“In Patent Disputes, a Scramble to Prove Ideas Are Old Hat”
The Wall Street Journal

Research In Motion (RIM) has seen its share of court battles since NTP Inc. began its mission to halt the use of the popular Blackberry emailing system claiming patent infringement. After taking many courtroom blows, RIM was handed a reprieve when a high-tech industry official told the company to check out a library in Norway, according to Wall Street Journal. The search turned up eight Norwegian Telecommunications Administration reports dating back to 1986 and 1989 describing a wireless email messaging system much like the Blackberry system. This particular information is termed “prior art” by the legal community. However, when used to successfully beat a patent infringement claim, it is referred to as “killer art.” With the information, RIM lawyers argued that NTP patents were not entirely original. “‘The Norway find isn’t the first, David Long, RIM’s patent attorney at Washington-based Howrey LLP, has hit upon potential killer art. Long recalled a prior case when killer art helped him successfully win a patent claim.

BOCA RATON, FL -- Jaclyn D. Goldstein has joined the Boca Raton office of Hodgson Russ LLP as an associate in its Business Litigation Practice Group. Ms. Goldstein formerly served as the law clerk to the Honorable Paul G. Hyman, Jr., United States Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Florida.

Ms. Goldstein concentrates her practice in the areas of business litigation; bankruptcy; insolvency; trustee and creditors’ rights in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 proceedings; and family law.

She is admitted to practice in Florida (2002) and New York (1999), the United States District Court for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Ms. Goldstein received her J.D. with distinction from Hofstra University School of Law (1998) and her B.A. with honors from Cornell University (1995).
