Leading Banking and Finance Partner Joins Baker & McKenzie Paris
Paris, 1 March, 2006 - Baker & McKenzie announced today that leading French banking & finance lawyer, Clotilde Dirnat, will join the Firm's Paris office as a partner to develop its French banking and finance practice. Clotilde joins the Firm from Herbert Smith's Paris office.

Clotilde Dirnat spent the early part of her career at Freshfields where she worked for both the Paris and Madrid offices. Clotilde moved to Herbert Smith in 1998 where she actively contributed to establishing and running the French Banking & Finance practice.

Clotilde has extensive experience in advising on a wide range of international finance and banking transactional work. Her practice is mainly focused on advising French and foreign financial institutions and corporates on acquisition and structured finance (including securitisations) and debt restructurings.

As well as the hire of Clotilde in Paris, Baker & McKenzie has this week also announced the arrival of a leading structured finance partner from Linklaters - David Deck - to its Tokyo office.

Baker & McKenzie has been steadily building its banking & finance practice in the key financial centres during the last twelve months with a number of notable partner hires. This has included the high profile hire of the four partner structured finance team, who joined the London office from Norton Rose in the later part of 2005. Other key partner hires have included Nick Tostivin, who will join the London office from Linklaters in March, and Laurence Pettit, who joined the New York office from White & Case in August 2005.

Environmental Partners Join Baker & McKenzie LLP in Chicago
Chicago, March 1, 2006 – Baker & McKenzie LLP announced today that it has significantly added to its Banking, Finance and Major Projects Practice Group with the addition of environmental Partners John Watson and Steven Murawski from Gardner Carton & Douglas. Sasha Reyes, an experienced environmental associate, has also joined the Environmental Group. The new additions combined with the Firm’s existing environmental group create one of the largest environmental practices in Chicago and the Midwest.

John Watson’s practice focuses on providing regulatory and risk management counseling to commercial and industrial enterprises, industrial real estate developers and financial institutions throughout the U.S. A significant focus of this work includes the development of environmental compliance and risk management programs and advice on corporate disclosure and environmental reporting obligations.

Mr. Watson also has built a national reputation in the clean-up and redevelopment of contaminated properties, and currently serves on the National Brownfield Association’s (NBA) Illinois Executive Team. He recently represented the NBA on EPA’s Federal Advisory Committee that worked with EPA on the draft of EPA’s new “All Appropriate Inquiries” rule mandated by Congress’ passage of the federal Brownfields Revitalization Act of 2002. Mr. Watson will chair the Firm’s North American Environmental Practice Group.

Also joining the Chicago office in February 2006 are Partners Donald J. Unger and Kazumune V. Kano, and associates Diane A. MacDonald and Louisa Vassileva Carney in the Customs Law Practice. They joined from Barnes, Richardson & Colburn.

Baker & McKenzie Attracts Eminent Structured Finance Partner in Tokyo
Tokyo, 1 March 2006 - Baker & McKenzie GJBJ Tokyo Aoyama Aoki Law office (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) announced today that David Deck has joined the Global Banking & Finance Practice Group as a partner in Tokyo. He comes to the Firm from Linklaters.

David Deck, a prominent banking and finance lawyer in Japan, has extensive experience in tax based asset financing, securitization and private equity transactions. He regularly represents major U.S., foreign and Japanese companies and financial institutions. Among many recognitions, Asia Pacific Legal 500 named Mr. Deck a “leading individual” in the fields of Asset Finance, Securitization and Private Equity. In addition, Chambers & Partners' Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers has named him a leading Capital Markets lawyer in Japan for the past eight years.

Mr. Deck joined Millbank in New York in 1988, and moved to Shearman & Sterling in 1993. He became a partner in the Tokyo office of Shearman & Sterling in 1998, and later became managing partner of that office. In 2003, he joined the Tokyo office of Linklaters as a partner.

Mr. Deck received his M.A. in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Columbia University in 1983. He received his JD from UCLA in 1988. Mr. Deck is admitted to practice in New York and is a member of the New York State Bar. He is also registered as a foreign lawyer in Japan (gaikokuho jimu bengoshi) and is a member of the Tokyo Bar Association.

Baker & McKenzie Advises on First Ever Subordinated Eurobond Offering from Ukraine
London, 1 March 2006 - Baker & McKenzie announced today that it recently acted as English and Ukrainian counsel to PrivatBank on the first ever subordinated Eurobond offering from Ukraine.

The lead managers of the offering were UBS (Sole Bookrunner, Underwriter and Joint Lead Manager) and Standard Bank (Joint Lead Manager), and the bonds were listed on the Swiss Stock Exchange.

The transaction was structured as an offering of US$150,000,000 8.75% Loan Participation Notes due 2016 with an Interest Rate Step-Up in 2011 issued by Standard Bank Plc for the purpose of financing a subordinated loan to PrivatBank. The subordinated loan is intended to qualify as Tier 2 capital under the regulations of the National Bank of Ukraine.

PrivatBank is the largest bank in Ukraine in terms of total assets, customer accounts and capital. PrivatBank will use the net proceeds of the loan for general banking purposes.

Commenting on the offering, international securities special counsel Carter Brod said: “We are pleased to have represented PrivatBank on this groundbreaking transaction from Ukraine. Several Russian banks issued subordinated eurobonds during 2005 but this is the first from Ukraine. The success of this complex transaction once again confirms the value to our clients of Baker & McKenzie's ability to offer a one-stop shop combining international capital markets advice with local law expertise.”

The Baker & McKenzie team consisted of Carter Brod (special counsel) and Laura Russell (associate) in London and Serhiy Chorny (partner) and Glib Bondar (associate) in Kiev.

UBS and Standard Bank were advised by Clifford Chance and Ukrainian law firm Sayenko Kharenko. Standard Bank in its capacity as issuer was advised by Linklaters.

Baker & McKenzie LLP Strengthens Trade and Customs Group
Chicago, March 1, 2006 – Baker & McKenzie LLP announced today that a team of four trade and customs attorneys joined its Chicago office. The team is lead by Partners Donald J. Unger and Kazumune V. Kano, and includes associates Diane A. MacDonald and Louisa Vassileva Carney. They joined the Firm’s North American Customs Law Practice from Barnes, Richardson & Colburn.

Donald J. Unger has practiced customs and international trade law for nearly 30 years. He assists clients in all aspects of the regulation of international trade with specific emphasis on U.S. customs counselling and enforcement proceedings, export control matters and unfair trade practice proceedings. Donald received his J.D. from John Marshall Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois.

Kazumune V. Kano has more than 20 years of experience in all areas of customs law, including penalty proceedings, compliance reviews, classification, valuation, trade agreements and specialty duty programs. He has appeared as counsel in all aspects of antidumping proceedings before the U.S. Court of International Trade and Court of Appeals for the Federal Court. Kazumune received his J.D. from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Diane A. MacDonald provides advice and representation to companies regarding all aspects of import and export compliance, including import classification and valuation, antidumping and WTO proceedings, government procurement, and export compliance management and control. She received her LL.M. from Golden Gate University School of Law, J.D. from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, M.Sc. in Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science, and her Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University.

Louisa Vassileva Carney focuses her practice on advising and representing clients regarding U.S. and foreign countries’ import and export laws, their enforcement and compliance. She received her LL.M. in International Business and Trade Law from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, J.D. from the University of Arkansas and her Bachelor of Arts from Lyon College.

Daniel Cullen’s practice focuses on the federal income taxation of real estate transactions, international and domestic partnerships, joint ventures and structured finance transactions. Cullen received his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University Law School in 1998 and his J.D. cum laude from American University’s Washington College of Law. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from the State University of New York in 1994.

Christopher Guldberg focuses his practice on the negotiation, design, implementation and operation of employee benefit and executive compensation arrangements for domestic and international clients. He received his LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 1992 and his J.D. from Syracuse University in 1991. He received his B.A. from Indiana University in 1987.

Charles Salem Hallab focuses his practice on Mergers & Acquisitions the intersection between corporate and commercial work, with particular emphasis on business combinations, including international joint ventures and other ongoing transactional-commercial arrangements. He also maintains an international geographic focus on the Middle East, with particular emphasis on Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and the U.A.E. Hallab received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1998 and his M.B.A. from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business in 1998. He received his B.A. from George Washington University Elliot School of International Affairs in 1994.

Brian Hengesbaugh provides advice to a wide range of traditional brick and mortar companies, outsourcing providers, financial services institutions and other organizations regarding the legal aspects of privacy and global electronic commerce. He focuses on issues related to compliance by U.S. organizations with federal and state privacy laws and consumer protection requirements. In addition, he provides advice on domestic and foreign electronic signature and contracting laws, emerging laws on spyware, cybercrime and data security. Hengesbaugh received his J.D. with distinction from the University of Minnesota law School and his A.B. with a major in Economics from Washington University School of Arts and Sciences. He also studied at the Central European University Law School in Budapest, Hungary.

Richard Saines heads the U.S. arm of Baker & McKenzie’s Global Climate Change and Emissions Trading Practice Group and co-Chairs the Firm’s U.S. Renewable Energy Practice Group. He advises multinational companies, multilateral institutions and governments in the area of International Environmental Law, including opportunities for carbon emissions trading consistent with the principles of the Kyoto Protocol. Saines received his J.D. from IIT-Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1996. He received his B.S. cum laude from Miami University of Ohio in 1991.

Susan C. Glen of Dunn Carney elected to Oregon State Bar House of Delegates
Dunn Carney Allen Higgins & Tongue LLP is proud to announce that partner, Susan C. Glen, has been elected to the Oregon State Bar House of Delegates. Her term begins immediately and ends in April 2007.

The House of Delegates replaced the ""town hall"" meeting of members in 1996. The House consists of 1) the Board of Governors; 2) the chairperson of each state bar committee and section; 3) the elected president of each county bar association; 4) elected delegates from each of the six in-state board regions and from the region consisting of all areas outside the State of Oregon; 5) and one public member from each in-state region appointed by the Board of Governors.
