MORGAN & FINNEGAN\'S NEW SHANGHAI OFFICE PROFILED IN IP LAW360
Morgan & Finnegan had been toying with the
idea of setting up shop in China. And when two of the firm’s partners
originally from China talked about moving back, it seemed the perfect
opportunity for one of the oldest intellectual property law firms to open its
doors in Shanghai.

The new office will be bolstered by two partners, Maria C.H. Lin, a veteran IP
attorney with more than 20 years of patent prosecution and litigation
experience, and William G.W. Hu, who specializes in mergers and
acquisitions as well as corporate and securities-related matters.
The new office will assist Chinese companies that plan to expand into the
U.S. and American companies that seek to enter China.

“We recognize China is a growing force in commerce,” partner Harry Marcus
said. “It’s very important in our mind to expand our practice to include clients
in China who want to come to the U.S. and U.S. companies that want to get
intellectual property and other property in China.”

Morgan & Finnegan offers a range of services in the intellectual property
area, including procurement of patents and trademark registrations in the
U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, intellectual property enforcement in U.S.
courts and defense against charges of infringement in the courts and at the
International Trade Commission.

“The timing is right to assist businesses in China with opportunities in the
U.S. and the West, as well as to support companies with their expansion into
China,” said Lin, who was born in Yunnan, China, raised in Hong Kong and
has served clients for more than 25 years from New York.

Lin, who is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Szechuanese, has dealt with
the development of intellectual property laws in China since 1979, and has
offered advice on the laws and on the cultural and social aspects of doing
business in China. She also helped draft the Patent Law of the People’s
Republic of China in 1984 and its subsequent amendment in 1993.

William Hu, who is a China native and fluent in Mandarin and Shanghai
dialects, has a rich background in international transactions. He has worked
as outside and in-house counsel for many international clients in many fields,
including mergers and acquisitions, general corporate law, intellectual
property and international trade matters.

In the past, Morgan & Finnegan has collaborated with China and its
companies, and has helped U.S. companies to enter China. Marcus noted
that Chinese companies are becoming more involved in the ITC, in which the
firm has an active practice.

“Chinese companies are importing more and expanding into the U.S. When
they import, there is the basis for a proceeding in the ITC,” Marcus said.
Marcus said as the practice in Shanghai moves forward, the firm plans to
expand.

Founded in 1893, Morgan & Finnegan has more than 100 lawyers and
scientific and technical advisors all devoted to patent, trademark, unfair
competition, copyright, trade secret and other intellectual property matters.
The firm is headquartered in New York and has offices in San Francisco and
Washington, D.C

Drinker Biddle Opening New Office Location to Accomodate Expanding Chicago Presence
Philadelphia, PA (March 15, 2006) – Law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP is establishing its Chicago office, leasing 17,400 square feet at Equity Office’s 161 North Clark Street in the Central Loop.

According to John Dames, Drinker Biddle’s partner-in-charge of the Chicago office, the new office is twice as large as the firm’s previous space at 115 South LaSalle Street, serving to support the firm’s expanding Chicago presence.

""Our relocation to this larger, more strategic location demonstrates Drinker Biddle’s commitment to the Chicago legal market,"" said Dames. ""We are actively pursuing opportunities to expand our profile here, and this move provides an ideal foundation for launching that growth.""

Established in 1849 with a national footprint of 10 offices, Drinker Biddle formed a strong base in Chicago in April 2005 when veteran litigation partners John Dames and David B. Sudzus, together with associates and support staff, joined Drinker Biddle from the firm of Kelley Drye & Warren LLP.

Drinker Biddle’s team of lawyers and administrative staff occupy the entire 48th floor of the Class A, 50-story office tower. The offices are ideally located across the street from the State Court and the State of Illinois Building, as well as nearby City Hall.

""Drinker Biddle needed a presence in Chicago that reflected its national reputation as one of the most well-established law firms in the country,"" said Tiffany Winne, managing director at Studley, the tenant advisor firm that represented Drinker Biddle in the transaction. ""With its sweeping views and amenities, 161 North Clark will be an ideal location from which to build its practice here.""

161 North Clark is owned by Equity Office, in joint venture with national financial services organization TIAA-CREF. Typical floor plates are approximately 17,000 to 26,000 square feet, and provide impressive views from every floor. The building is in proximity to commuter transportation routes, with access to various restaurants, hotels, retail shops, theatres, and government buildings and courts. Jack O’Brien, leasing director for Equity Office, represented the landlord.

Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP maintains law offices in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Florham Park and Princeton, NJ, Berwyn, PA and Wilmington, DE.
