Five Attorneys Named to \"League of Justice\"
Five attorneys from Betts, Patterson & Mines, have been named to the 2006 League of Justice, by Washington CEO magazine. John Braislin, Steve Goldstein, James Nelson, Chris Tompkins, and Liv Wernecke are recognized in the March issue of the magazine, as voted by their peers to be amazing attorneys. The League of Justice consists of attorneys who go above and beyond the practice of law in their daily lives and Betts, Patterson & Mines is proud to have our attorneys included in this list.

JACK SHAWDE JOINS THE DISPUTE RESOLUTION TEAM OF BERGER SINGERMAN
MIAMI, FL -- John C. “Jack” Shawde has joined the Florida business law firm of Berger Singerman as a shareholder. Shawde focuses his practice on creditors’ rights/bankruptcy and government procurement disputes. He joins the firm’s Dispute Resolution Team and will be resident in the Miami office.



“With his considerable expertise in bankruptcy-related litigation, Jack is a great fit for our firm and a welcome addition to the Dispute Resolution Team,” said Mitchell W. Berger, Chair of Berger Singerman.



Shawde’s bankruptcy-related litigation experience is broad based and includes stay relief litigation, post filing debtor in possession financing issues, plan confirmation disputes, the prosecution and defense of breach of fiduciary duty claims against former officers and directors, and preference litigation.



He also has significant experience in government procurement disputes, having served as lead litigator for disputes arising out of the government procurement process at both the state and local levels. In 2005, his argument before Florida’s Third District Court of Appeals established the law in Miami-Dade County regarding the scope of Miami-Dade County’s bid protest procedures.



Shawde received his B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College and his J.D. cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

JOHN EATON JOINS THE BUSINESS REORGANIZATION TEAM OF BERGER SINGERMAN
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- John D. Eaton has joined the Florida business law firm of Berger Singerman as a shareholder. He is a member of the firm’s Business Reorganization Team and will be resident in the firm’s Ft. Lauderdale office.

Eaton has 15 years of legal experience, focusing his practice on the representation of creditors, debtors, trustees and committees in bankruptcy cases, as well as on other matters affecting creditors’ rights.

“John is a great addition to our firm’s Business Reorganization Team, and we are very excited to have him. We expect John will augment our already substantial bankruptcy and business practice,” said Paul Singerman, co-CEO of Berger Singerman.

Before joining Berger Singerman, Eaton was a partner with the Miami office of Squire Sanders & Dempsey.

Eaton is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He received his B.S., cum laude, from Florida State University and J.D., with honors from the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.

McGuireWoods to Merge With Van Etten Suzumoto & Becket
McGuireWoods said on Tuesday that it plans to merge with Los Angeles-based Van Etten Suzumoto & Becket.

Van Etten Suzumoto & Becket has 40 attorneys and serves clients that range from corporations to individuals in industries from health care to pharmaceutical and technology, among others.

Last year, McGuireWoods opened a Los Angeles office at the request of clients. The firm said that the merger will help service the growing demands of those clients.

"Once we were there, we began thinking about a stronger presence," McGuireWoods Chairman Robert Burrus said. Van Etten Suzumoto & Becket, he said, "had the same kind of core values in terms of client services."

In January, Richmond, Va.-based McGuireWoods agreed to merge with Chicago-based law firm Gordon & Glickson to form a new technology and business department consisting of 40 to 50 attorneys.

The 750-lawyer McGuireWoods is listed at No. 63 on The American Lawyer's Am Law 100 rankings of U.S. law firms.

McGuireWoods has 15 offices in the United States, Europe and Central Asia. McGuireWoods clients span public, private, government and nonprofit areas from industries such as automotive, energy, health care, telecommunications, technology, manufacturing and transportation.

ANDREW TOLLIN, MICHAEL SULLIVAN CO-AUTHOR \"LITIGATION BEFORE THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION\"
WASHINGTON, D.C. — ""Litigation before the Federal Communications Commission,"" by Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP partners L. Andrew Tollin and Michael Deuel Sullivan has been published by Aspatore Books as the lead article in a collection entitled ""Inside the Minds: Telecom Law Best Practices.""

In this overview of FCC litigation, Mr. Tollin and Mr. Sullivan explain how FCC litigation differs from typical civil litigation, discuss the various players and issues involved, and note that there are many different types of FCC litigation. They describe the varied types of procedures used in FCC proceedings and how such proceedings can be affected by developments in other areas of the government. Former Bankruptcy Judge Ralph Mabey Joins ST&G
Stutman, Treister & Glatt, the preeminent bankruptcy boutique law firm and a leader in business reorganization and restructuring for more than 50 years, announced today that former Bankruptcy Judge Ralph R. Mabey has joined the firm as senior of counsel.

Mr. Mabey served as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge from 1979 to 1983. More recently, he has been recognized for his extensive national experience as an examiner, trustee and committee counsel, as well as an arbitrator, mediator and expert witness in countless restructuring and bankruptcy related cases in various jurisdictions throughout the country.

A member of the New York and Utah bars, Mr. Mabey's service in complex workout, bankruptcy, reorganization, and litigation matters includes: A.H. Mr. Mabey received his law degree from Columbia University where he served on the Board of Editors of the Columbia Law Review. He is the immediate past Chair of the American College of Bankruptcy and served as an appointee of the late Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist to the U.S. Judicial Conference's Advisory Committee on the Bankruptcy Rules. He has also served as the managing editor of the Norton Bankruptcy Law Adviser, on the Editorial Advisory Board of the American Bankruptcy Law Journal, and currently serves as a contributing author to Collier on Bankruptcy. Mr. Mabey is a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference's Executive Committee, the American Law Institute and the American Bar Association's Select Advisory Committee on Business Reorganization (SABRE).

Mr. Mabey founded, and for 20 years headed, the international bankruptcy practice of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP and was formerly a name partner in Mabey Murray LC.
