Mark D. Harris Joins Proskauer Rose Litigation Department as Senior Counsel
Proskauer Rose LLP, an international law firm with more than 700 lawyers in the United States and Europe, today announced that Mark D. Harris, a seasoned litigator with a stellar and varied legal background, will join the firm's Litigation Department as senior counsel, resident in the New York office.

Mr. Harris recently completed his Bachelor's Degree in Talmudic Law from Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah at the Talmudic Research Institute, an achievement that followed a remarkable career that included serving for five years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, clerking for two U.S. Supreme Court justices, John Paul Stevens and Lewis F. ""Mark is a valuable addition to the firm and our rapidly growing litigation practice. His unique background and experience made him a highly sought-after lawyer and we are proud to welcome him to the firm,"" said Mr. Fagin.

While a U.S. attorney, Mr. Harris was lead counsel on numerous jury trials, including a multimillion-dollar fraudulent financial embezzlement case and a corporate embezzlement case, among many others. He left the U.S. Attorney's office in 2002 to enroll in Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah to study the Talmud and its commentaries, with a focus on civil and religious law.

""While Mark's choices can certainly be described as the 'road less traveled' for a young and talented attorney, they're also to be commended,"" said Louis M. Solomon, co-chair of Proskauer's Litigation Department. ""His insight and perspective will be invaluable to us as we continue to pursue the complicated and diverse caseload that defines the success of our Litigation Department.""

Mr. Harris graduated from Harvard Law School, where he was Supervising Editor of Harvard Law Review, and Harvard College. He is also a member of the Board of Editors of the Federal Sentencing Reporter and a frequent contributor.

King & Spalding Completes Move to New Headquarters
King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today the completion of its Atlanta office relocation to the 1180 Peachtree Building. Approximately 1,000 lawyers and staff occupy the firm's new space, which offers an enhanced work environment that encourages collaboration, teamwork and efficient client service.

""The innovative design of our new office space promotes efficiency and productivity and will benefit our clients as well as our employees,"" said Robert D. Hays, Jr., who became Chairman of the firm on January 1. ""The space offers room for growth - which remains a top priority for the firm - and flexibility which permits us to respond to ever-changing demands in the delivery of services to our clients."" For example, the design permits the easy conversion of paralegal offices to large workrooms and back again - allowing the firm to respond quickly to the ebb and flow of major deals and big-case litigation.""

King & Spalding occupies two-thirds of the new building, which was designed by Pickard Chilton, utilizing 417,000 square feet on 17 floors, providing sufficient space for the firm's projected growth through 2009, with options for additional expansion in the future. Gensler is responsible for the interior design, which, in addition to the standard complement of offices and conference rooms, features extra team workspaces and furnishings to stimulate professional interaction. More natural light throughout the office combined with ten-foot ceilings gives the space a warm, open feel. Other features include a state-of-the-art data center with an uninterruptible power system, numerous conference rooms with built-in audio-visual capability, a conference center with wireless connectivity for visiting clients and lawyers, and a dining facility serving lawyers and staff overlooking the site of the proposed new Atlanta Symphony Center to which the firm has previously made a significant financial commitment.

Since 1991, when King & Spalding moved into its former space (191 Peachtree), the firm's Atlanta office has nearly doubled in size - from 535 employees to approximately 1,000 today, of which about 400 are lawyers (in comparison to 222 in 1991).

""Coupled with our focus on growth is our goal of attracting and retaining the best and brightest lawyers at King & Spalding,"" said Mason W. Stephenson, managing partner of the Atlanta office. ""We wanted the design and location of the office to appeal to both our attorneys and clients. The more contemporary 'feel' of our space coupled with the '24-hour city' environment of Midtown should help in our recruiting efforts.""

This summer the firm will also relocate its litigation support operations and a number of back-office functions to new space less than two blocks away at 1230 West Peachtree Street. In addition, later in the fall, lawyers and staff will be able to take advantage of a new childcare facility to be located at the 1230 West Peachtree space.

This month, King & Spalding is auctioning surplus furniture from its former downtown Atlanta space and is contributing the net proceeds to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.

Fulbright’s Patent Team Gets Summary Judgment and Invalidates Patent
Fulbright’s patent team obtained a summary judgment of patent invalidity for Seattle client SonoSite. On March 21st, Houston U.S. District Judge John Rainey held that claims of a patent on a device for curing erectile dysfunction were invalid because the inventor and Houston patent attorney Richard Redano added improper new matter when he broadened the patent after it was filed to cover other types of ultrasonic devices.

HoustonAs part of the final judgment, the Court also reversed an earlier ruling that SonoSite had infringed the Redano patent, which is now owned by patent holding company Neutrino Development Corporation.

Sonosite is the world leader in hand-carried ultrasound systems developed for use in a broad range of clinical applications. Fulbright’s patent team included Fulbright attorneys Paul Krieger, Reagan Brown, Lucas Elliot, Erik Hawes and Melanie Rother.
