Buchanan Ingersoll\'s 2005 Annual Report Featured on Online Marketing Blog
The Buchanan Ingersoll 2005 annual report was rated ""superb"" by Larry Bodine's Professional Marketing Blog in a post dated March 28, 2006.

Bodine called the report ""brilliant for its focus on 7 of [the firm's] 15 target industries, all reflected in the 25-page, glossy, heavy paper report."" Bodine went on to call the report ""exceptional because it's built around the way clients think: it's short and easy to read.""

Bodine added, ""It tells success stories, which clients love.""

He gave kudos to Buchanan Ingersoll's Director of Communications and Public Relations Lori K. Lecker for her hard work.

""We had such a good year in 2005, the report wrote itself,"" Lecker told Bodine.

Venable Transportation and Infrastructure Lawyer Margaret Strand Named Chairperson of Transportation Research Board’s Committee on Environmental Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. - (April 11, 2006) – Margaret Strand, a partner with Venable LLP’s Transportation and Infrastructure practice, has been named chairperson of the Committee on Environmental Law for the National Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board (TRB), effective in April. Ms. Strand, who is also a member of Venable LLP’s Environmental Group, will serve a three-year term.

Ms. Strand has served on the Environmental Law Committee since 2002 and was a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology from 1993 through 2001.

The Committee on Environmental Law serves as a coordinating arm for ongoing NAS research on transportation and environmental issues. The Committee also produces programs twice a year at Transportation Research Board meetings, and publishes The Natural Lawyer, a biannual newsletter that reports on issues of environmental and legal concern to the transportation industry.

Among Ms. Strand’s priorities for her term as chair will be broadening the reach of the Committee and soliciting more participation from non-government and nonprofit groups.

“The Committee on Environmental Law has served a fundamental purpose by addressing issues of importance to the transportation industry and is well regarded among state and federal participants, as well as among those in the contracting universe,” explains Ms. Strand. “I would like to expand our reach and encourage more involvement from the private sector, as well as from nonprofits specifically interested in environmental issues.”

Ms. Strand contributed to the National Academy of Sciences’ recently issued report entitled “Assessing and Managing the Ecological Impacts of Paved Roads.” The report is the broadest study to date examining how road development in the United States affects the natural environment, in particular wildlife habitats. The 250-page report serves as a virtual road map for state and local highway authorities, as well as engineering and construction companies, to work in concert with environmental groups on highway development.

In March Ms. Strand was appointed by ALI-ABA to its Environmental Law Advisory Panel. The panel lends its expertise to developing new and enhanced ALI-ABA projects, courses, publications and other products. Drawn from around the country, panel members are known for their experience and in-depth knowledge of the law.

Ms. Strand recently served as Special Assistant Attorney General to the State of Utah and negotiated a settlement with the Sierra Club and other conservation groups that allowed for the construction of the newLegacy Parkway along the shores of the Great Salt Lake. From 1984 to 1991, she was Chief of the Environmental Defense Section in the U.S. Justice Department, Environmental and Natural Resources Division. She has also authored numerous works on environmental law issues including the Wetlands Deskbook (Environmental Law Institute, 1993, 1997).

Venable’s Transportation and Infrastructure practice includes attorneys with extensive experience in federal legislative, regulatory and appropriations issues, environmental matters, as well as state and local government counseling. Venable partners have represented clients before the Department of Transportation, its modal administrations, and all of the transportation-related committees of Congress. Jim Burnley, who chairs the Transportation and Infrastructure practice, served as U.S. Secretary of Transportation from 1987 to 1989. John Milliken, another senior member of the practice, served as Secretary of Transportation for the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1990 to 1993.

Venable’s Environmental Group provides a full range of legal services on the federal, state and local levels in all areas of environmental law. Its experience ranges from the representation of clients accused of environmental crimes or civil and administrative violations to the counseling of businesses on permitting, planning, and compliance requirements for transportation projects as well as other developments. The environmental group includes three former U.S. Justice Department Section Chiefs, Jud Starr and Jerry Block, along withMs. Strand.

American Bar Association Names Venable’s Jeffrey Tenenbaum as Outstanding Nonprofit Lawyer of the Year
Highlighting what one client referred to as his “mastery of the full range of legal disciplines facing nonprofit organizations,” Venable LLP partner Jeffrey S. Tenenbaum was named the American Bar Association’s Outstanding Nonprofit Lawyer for 2006. This honor is awarded annually by the ABA's Business Law Section to attorneys who have made outstanding contributions to the nonprofit sector or the development of nonprofit law.

Mr. Tenenbaum’s practice focuses exclusively on association and nonprofit law. He counsels more than 250 nonprofit clients nationally each year on the broad legal issues affecting trade and professional associations and other nonprofit groups, and regularly represents clients before Congress, federal and state regulatory agencies, and in connection with governmental investigations, enforcement actions, and other proceedings.

“ Jeff Tenenbaum has created a robust practice in representing trade and professional associations, which are vital to industry and self-regulation, public policy development, and the free flow of information. Lawyers who serve trade associations serve the public interest,” said William Coston, Partner-in-Charge of Venable’sWashington office.

“We are very proud that the ABAhas recognized what the leaders of hundreds of major nonprofits have come to know in recent years, namely that Jeff is the country’s go-to legal advisor on their matters,” Mr. Coston added. “He has really shown himself to be one of the top practitioners in this challenging, and growing, area of the law.”

Mr. Tenenbaum has been highly visible in the nonprofit community for more than a decade. During law school, he worked for several years in the government affairs division of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), serving for a time as manager of its legal section. In the mid-1990s, he began advising associations on their particular legal issues. He has since become an active lecturer on the association circuit, giving more than two dozen presentations a year, including many for ASAE and The Center for Association Leadership. He also serves as general counsel to The Center.

Mr. Tenenbaum has written over 200 articles on nonprofit legal topics, contributing regularly to Associations Now, Association Trends, and other industry journals. In 2000, he authored the Association Tax Compliance Guide, published by ASAE. He has contributed to other books as well, including Association Law Compendium, Essentials of the Profession Learning System, and Generating and Managing Nondues Revenue in Association. Mr. Tenenbaum is regularly quoted by The Washington Post and other print media on nonprofit legal issues. In addition to his legal work, Mr. Tenenbaum serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Association Law & Policy journal and the ASAE Public Policy Committee. He previously served as Chairman of the AL&PEditorial Advisory Board, and on the GWSAE Foundation Board of Trustees and the Editorial Advisory Board of Aspen’s Nonprofit Tax & Financial Strategies, among other volunteer positions.

Susan Sarfati, President & CEO of The Center for Association Leadership, who has known Mr. Tenenbaum since his days with ASAE, commented: “I have enormous respect not only for Jeff’s extensive legal knowledge in the nonprofit area, but for his ability to take complicated issues and make them comprehensible, delivering much-needed, practical guidance to those of us who run nonprofit organizations.”

“Through his service in recent years as general counsel to The Center, my colleagues and I have been first-hand beneficiaries of Jeff’s talents,” Ms. Sarfati continued. “Jeff has successfully shepherded us through many legal challenges – the most notable being our merger with ASAE – with tremendous skill and finesse. As he has successfully grown his client base, Jeff has trained a strong core of junior attorneys in his mold of the Nonprofit Lawyer.”

Mr. Tenenbaum was recognized by Who's Who in American Law in 2005 and by the Washington Business Journal as a ""Top Washington Lawyer"" in 2004. In the nonprofit community, he was awarded the distinguished “Chairman's Award” from GWSAE in 1997 and from The Center for Association Leadership in 2004.

“I am truly humbled by the ABA ’s recognition of my work,” said Mr. Tenenbaum. “Receiving this recognition from my peers is a great honor and one which I will always treasure.”
