James Koelzer Joins Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P.
James Koelzer has joined the Los Angeles office of the national law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. as Of Counsel.

Mr. Koelzer’s practice will continue to focus on insurance, commercial, and maritime litigation. He has been in private practice with other law firms in California since 1998. Mr. Koelzer previously worked at the Lloyd’s Claims Office at Lloyd’s of London, served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Chief Judge John C. Coughenour of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, and served as extern for the Honorable Wm. Matthew Byrne, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Mr. Koelzer graduated from Tulane University School of Law in 1996, where he was the Editor in Chief of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal.

LORD, BISSELL & BROOK LLP SPONSORS NORTH AMERICAN SOUTH ASIAN LAW STUDENT ASSOCIATION ANNUAL 8TH AN
On February 18, 2006, Lord, Bissell & Brook attorneys participated in the North American South Asian Law Student Association’s Annual Conference (NASALSA) in Chicago.

The firm served as sole sponsor of one of the receptions for the event as well as a Diamond Sponsor of the Conference and our attorneys assisted with mentoring and mock interviewing. One of our partners spoke on a panel entitled, “Getting the Job,” and another delivered the welcome speech at the reception with advice for professional success as lawyers.

Approximately 250 students and attorneys attended the conference.

Elliot Brown Addresses Theater Colloquium
In April, Elliot Brown spoke to several hundred aspiring stage producers attending the Commercial Theater Institute on "Legal Aspects for Producing in Commercial Theatre." The presentation was part of a three-day program presented annually by the Commercial Theater Institute. People from around the world interested in learning more about play production attended this intensive program, normally held in a Broadway theatre.

Bauer, Martin Named Best Lawyers
Woodward White, Inc., publishers of The Best Lawyers in America, have named Partners Bob Bauer and Guy Martin among the Best Lawyers in the Washington, D.C. area.

Bob was named a Best Lawyer in the Corporate Law and newly created Government Relations Law categories. He focuses his practice on federal/state campaign finance and election laws, political and business ethics, white-collar crime, tax-exempt organization law, lobbying regulation and disclosures, and political broadcast regulation. He is also the author of the blog www.moresoftmoneyhardlaw.com, which recently received recognition by Walter Shapiro, Washington bureau chief for Salon.com, in an interview posted on extrememortman.com.

Guy was named a Best Lawyer in the Environmental Law and Natural Resources Law. Gibson’s Paper Receives Award at ABA Conference
C. Allen Gibson, Jr., a principal in the firm, spoke at the recent 8th Annual American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution Spring Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. His presentation Neutral Experts and Standing Neutrals: Using Substantive Expertise to Assist in Dispute Resolution was awarded Best Original Material at the conference.

Gibson is the head of the Firm's Construction and Construction Products Liability Practice Groups. He is on the Construction Arbitrator Master Panel for the American Arbitration Association and has served as an arbitrator and mediator in numerous cases.

Ford & Harrison Welcomes New Associate in Los Angeles
Ford & Harrison LLP, a national labor and employment law firm, is pleased to announce that A. Robert Rhoan, Jr. has joined the Los Angeles office as an associate.

Mr. Rhoan concentrates his practice on representing employers in litigation matters with a focus on employment law including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, and wrongful termination issues. Prior to joining Ford & Harrison, he practiced commercial litigation at Bingham McCutchen in San Francisco.

Mr. Rhoan co-authored Preserving Diversity in Higher Education, A Manual on Admissions and Procedures After the University of Michigan Decision, a publication of the Equal Justice Society that was distributed to university admissions offices nationwide to assist in complying with the United States Supreme Court decisions in Gratz v Bollinger and Grutter vs. Bollinger.

Mr. Rhoan received his law degree from the University of California’s Hastings College of the Law. While there, he was a member of the Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal. He received his undergraduate degree from University of California, Los Angeles (B.A., 1999).
