DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP has announced that James D. Mathias has been named Litigation Chair of the firm's Baltimore office.

In his new role, Mathias will oversee the function and general management of the litigation practice in the Baltimore office. He succeeds Neil J. Dilloff, one of the firm's leading trial lawyers, who will continue to represent clients as a partner in the litigation practice.

""We live in an age when clients need experienced litigation counsel and sound risk management advice, for both domestic and international disputes, and I am proud to be a part of a firm that strives to meet their needs wherever they do business.""

An experienced trial lawyer, Mathias' practice focuses on general corporate, securities, and business litigation. He has tried cases and argued appeals in federal and state courts in numerous jurisdictions. He also has extensive arbitration and mediation experience. Firm Recognized for Gift to Legal Aid
The Cleveland office of Baker Hostetler has made a grant of $80,000 to the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland to support special education work under Legal Aid’s Health, Education, Work & Income Practice Unit. In recognition of this gift, Legal Aid attorney Chitra Ramanathan is named the Baker Hostetler Special Education Attorney.

The connection to Legal Aid’s special education practice was natural for the firm, which was founded by partners who first served in municipal government. When moving into the legal profession, they brought with them a commitment to community support. In Cleveland, this commitment manifests itself in the “Partner in Education” program with the Cleveland Municipal School District.

The Cleveland office has been a Partner for eight years and is currently matched with the Union School, where lawyers provide weekly tutoring sessions in reading and math for a third-grade class. The firm also provides the class with an outing to an Indians game each year and contributes supplies, including paper, pencils, and computer equipment.

Nine T&K Attorneys Included in D Magazine\'s \"Best Lawyers Under 40\" List
Dallas, Texas - Thompson & Knight is pleased to congratulate W. Mark Bennett, Gregory D. Binns, J. Holt Foster III, William M. Katz, Jr., Eric G. Reis, Nicole Rittenhouse, Mike Schonberg, Shad E. Sumrow, and Wesley P. Williams on their inclusion in D Magazine's 2006 ""Best Lawyers Under 40"" list.

""The attorneys named to this list are rising stars, and I congratulate them for achieving this distinction. It is gratifying to know that our peers hold our attorneys in as high regard as we do within our Firm,"" says Pete Riley, Thompson & Knight's Managing Partner.

The editors of D Magazine posted a secured online ballot allowing a record 2,300 registered Dallas attorneys to vote. Attorneys were asked to consider young Dallas lawyers whose work they had witnessed firsthand and who they consider rank among the current best. Nominated lawyers had to be younger than 40 as of April 30, 2005. Voters could nominate one person from their own firm and two others from outside firms. Same-firm votes received less weight than those for people in outside firms. Participants had to sign their nomination forms and include their Texas State Bar numbers. Self-nominations were excluded. A panel of local attorneys reviewed the final list.
