Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP Adds Attorney to Business Practice
Oakland law firm Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP adds attorney Cynthia L. Hansen as an associate to the firm’s business practice.
“Cynthia will be a valuable asset to the firm, as she brings several years of business and corporate legal experience,” said Howard Lind, managing partner for Wendel Rosen. “Her reputable client service and her passion for pro bono work fall right in line with the firm’s focus and culture.”
Prior to joining Wendel Rosen, Hansen spent more than five years as a corporate associate at Winston & Strawn LLP in Washington, D.C., where her practice focused on representing lenders in international project finance and providing general corporate advice for a diverse clientele in connection with financings, private offerings, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, technology licensing agreements and various other corporate matters. On the pro bono front, Hansen successfully represented a Rwandan asylum seeker and his family in all phases of the application process and proceeding in immigration court.
Hansen earned her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (1998), where she was the articles editor for the Hastings Law Journal and an American Jurisprudence Award winner for

FHM Ranked in Top Tier of New York Maritime Firms
After recently being listed in the top tier of New York maritime law firms by Chambers USA, Freehill Hogan & Mahar has now been ranked in the top tier of shipping law firms in the United States by Chambers Global. In addition to FHM again being ranked No. 1, partners Peter Gutowski and Wayne Meehan have been singled out by Chambers Global as leaders in their field. William Harvey Joins Winston & Strawn's San Francisco Office
Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that William L. Harvey has joined its San Francisco office as a partner in the firm’s financial services practice. Harvey, who has represented major financial institutions and businesses in financing and capital market matters for more than 20 years, moved his practice from the San Francisco office of White & Case LLP.

“Bill’s extensive experience and deep understanding of the financial services industry has enabled him to structure financial transactions for clients in traditional industries as well as those in cutting-edge, emerging technologies,” said Charles S. Birenbaum, head of Winston & Strawn’s San Francisco office. “We are delighted to add him to our already significant financial services practice and our expanding West Coast offices.” In recent years Loan Pricing Corporation, widely considered to be one of the most comprehensive industry tracking publishers, has ranked Winston & Strawn's commercial lending practice in (or near) its top ten for the volume of both leveraged and M&A deals.

Harvey handles both origination and restructuring of secured and unsecured syndicated and leveraged debt financings and equipment lease and derivatives transactions involving credit-takers in a variety of industries, including technology, telecommunications, transportation, energy and public utilities. He also has experience in California public finance, structured finance and insolvency matters.

A former assistant general counsel for a major U.S. bank in San Francisco and London, Harvey was responsible for wholesale bank lending, leasing, capital markets, and regulatory matters. He is a recent member of the Uniform Commercial Code Subcommittee of the State Bar of California’s Business Law Section, co-editing the committee’s report Legal Opinions in Personal Property Secured Transactions (2005). He also is a member of the American Bar Association’s Commercial Financial Services Committee and Subcommittee on Securitization and Derivatives and was listed in the 2005-06 issue of Who’s Who in American Law.

Harvey publishes papers in legal and business publications on topics such as derivative contracts and loan documentation. He earned his juris doctor, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School, where he was a member of the Minnesota Law Review,and received his bachelor's degree from American University School of International Service.

Moritt Hock Hamroff & Horowitz Adds New Area of Practice

NGN Joins Syndicate Investing $60 Million in Aerovance
Aerovance Inc., a Berkeley, Calif.-based drug company focused on respiratory and inflammatory diseases, has raised $60 million in Series C funding. The deal includes an initial $32 million infusion and an additional $28 million based on Aerovance hitting certain milestones. Clarus Ventures led the deal, and was joined by Alta Partners and return backers Apax Partners, Lehman Brothers, NGN Capital and Burrill & Co. Aerovance was spun out of Bayer in 2004.

Duane Morris Partner Appointed to New Jersey District Export Council
Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that Steven M. Richman, a partner in the Trial and International Practice Groups in its Princeton office, has been appointed to the New Jersey District Export Council. The appointment to the position by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce is an acknowledgement of Steven's contributions to the New Jersey business community as well as his extensive experience in international law.

The New Jersey District Export Council assists companies attempting to export their products through a combination of advisory services, trade promotion/education and networking opportunities statewide. The Council consists of exporters, local business leaders and international lawyers who are appointed to four-year terms, with no limit on the number of terms a member can serve. Appointments are made based on an individual's contributions to the local business community and knowledge of international operations.

Steven has more than two decades of experience in the areas of commercial and international law and litigation, including trade regulation counseling, secured transactions, intellectual property, bankruptcy and antitrust. A member of the Board of Trustees of New Jersey State Museum, Steven is an adjunct professor of international business law at The College of New Jersey, as well as a member of the advisory board of that institution's Global Business Alliance. He is a 1980 graduate of New York University Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. He is also a graduate of Drew University.
