Mr. Cudd joins Morrison & Foerster from the New York office of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, where he was a partner. “I am excited to have the opportunity to join Morrison & Foerster, which has one of the leading tax practices in the nation,” he said. “Moreover, after twenty-five years in the New York area, I am looking forward to practicing on the West Coast.”

The Department also encompasses practices in employee benefits and executive compensation, trusts, estates, and estate planning.

“Federal tax considerations play an increasingly critical role for our corporate group, particularly in cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and the development and issuance of structured securities,” added Robert Townsend, Co-Chair of the firm’s Corporate Group. “Bob’s sophisticated tax expertise and commitment to client service will further enhance our ability to meet the needs of our clients in their critical transactions.

Jenner & Block’s Commitment to Pro Bono Honored by DC Judges
Jenner & Block was among the fourteen law firms recently honored by the chief judges of the District of Columbia federal courts at the “40 at 50”: Judicial Pro Bono Recognition Breakfast for their “outstanding dedication” to pro bono work.

Established by the DC Circuit Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services, the “40 at 50” breakfast recognizes law firms for which 40 percent of their attorneys have individually fulfilled at least 50 hours of pro bono service in 2005.

Among the pro bono activities conducted by the Firm’s DC office in 2005 was a settlement forged for the Food & Friends organization in a trademark dispute and a successful appeal in the DC Circuit on behalf of a woman who filed a disability discrimination claim against her former employer.

In addition, a team of Jenner & Block attorneys helped develop the legal arguments and write the briefs for the Florida attorneys representing Michael Schiavo in the closely watched litigation surrounding his wife, the late Terri Schiavo, who had been kept alive against her wishes by a Florida law supported by that state’s Governor. After a victory before the Florida Supreme Court in 2004, the Firm’s legal team drafted the legal briefs that opposed subsequent appeals by Mrs. Schiavo’s parents in light of a Congressional act in March 2005 that gave the federal courts jurisdiction in the case.

Jenner & Block’s DC office also filed a number of amicus briefs on behalf of public interest groups before the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts in cases raising important social and constitutional issues. And, the Firm continued its representation of Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks in his habeas corpus proceedings before the district and appellate courts.

Jenner & Block is one of the few firms in the District to have been recognized each of the four years the award has been offered.

The breakfast featured hosts Chief Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and Chief Judge Thomas F. Hogan, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
