New York\'s Chief Internet Enforcer Joins Sonnenschein
Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today that Kenneth M. Dreifach has joined the law firm as a partner in its New York office and a member of its Information Security & Internet Enforcement Group. Most recently, Dreifach served for more than five years as the chief of the Internet Bureau in the Office of the New York Attorney General, where he directed all enforcement efforts.

“Ken is one of the country’s leading Internet lawyers in the government sector,” said Michael Barr, managing partner of Sonnenschein’s New York office. “He brings tremendous experience to help our clients with the challenges they face in this growing area of the law.”

Under Dreifach’s direction, the Internet Bureau has become a nationwide leader in consumer protection efforts on the Internet. He has overseen the initiation, litigation and settlement of dozens of enforcement actions involving spyware practices, data privacy, spam, online gambling, credit card and e-payment practices, online auction fraud, identity theft, Web access for the disabled and, more generally, deceptive advertising and business practices.

Dreifach also has worked closely with the Federal Trade Commission and other state attorney general offices on policy and enforcement, leading several multi-state groups, and has drafted and consulted on numerous New York State bills regarding spyware, spam, ISP practices, rebate practices, and other consumer protection issues. Before becoming chief of the Internet Bureau in 2000, he was an assistant attorney general in the same bureau and before that spent several years in private practice.

“Ken’s experience makes him the perfect addition to our group. It allows us to provide our clients with incredibly valuable insight into government enforcement actions related to Internet conduct and how to comply with the law in this still-emerging area,” said Marc J. During this symposium, the book 'Een wereld te winnen' ['A world to be won'] was presented. The book is the initiative of Tineke Lambooy, a lawyer and PhD student. AL COLEMAN HONORED AS ONE OF THE BUSINESS JOURNAL\'S 40 UNDER FORTY
Congratulations to Al Coleman, an attorney in Rider Bennett's Business Department who was recently honored as one of The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's 40 Under Forty. As the youngest member of this year's group of notable up-and-comers, Al deserves special recognition for his professional achievements as well as his community involvement.

Born in Monrovia, Liberia and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, Al is an associate in the firm's Business Department who has quickly earned the respect of his co-workers by performing at a level well beyond his years. Despite the demands of a burgeoning legal career in the areas of Entrepreneurial Services, Business Transactions, Commercial Loans and Real Estate, Al spends a significant amount of time using his intimate knowledge of emerging businesses to help create unique educational opportunities for inner city and minority youth.

Al earned his B.A. from the University of St. Thomas in 2001 and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2004. He was a participant in the Carlson School of Management's Management Assistant Program that provides management consulting services to small business owners. Al served as President of the Black Law Students Association during his last year of law school and was also the recipient of a Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers (MABL) scholarship for academic achievement and community involvement. He is currently a member of the Minnesota State and Hennepin County Bar Associations, and actively involved in MABL—the leading minority bar association organized to promote and support the professional development of black lawyers, judges and law students in Minnesota.

In 2004, Al brought his passion for all things business to Rider Bennett where he provides legal counsel to emerging and developing businesses in connection with formation and expansion strategies including financing, M&A, and the franchising and licensing of proprietary products and services. He has a strong relationship with the Metropolitan Economic Development Association (MEDA) going back to his law school days. ""I first became involved with MEDA as a student attorney in the Kommerstad Business Law Clinic at the U of M Law School,"" says Al. ""The clinic provides pro bono services to MEDA clients in the start-up phase of their business."" A January 8, 2006 article in the Star Tribune's Business section chronicles Al's work with MEDA in assisting a young man's move from employee to owner of the small business where he worked. ""I'm proud of the work I did with MEDA throughout law school,"" says Al, ""and to be able to continue it as a professional has been really rewarding.""

Al's media exposure isn't limited to being the subject of business columns—he's also comfortable wielding the pen. In December 2005, One Nation News, a weekly Twin Cities-based African-American general interest newspaper, launched ""Ask Al""—a monthly business column that provides general business advice to small and emerging businesses.

Al Coleman's professional life may revolve around business, but after work it's all about the kids. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Al volunteered with MidKidz—an after-school program at Hancock Elementary School—and was active in his church's youth group. More recently, Al has turned his attention to two significant undertakings: the Academy of BioScience and the Minnesota Diversity Foundation. Al was a founding Board member of the Academy of BioScience, a new tuition-free public charter school in Columbia Heights focusing on science and technology. He is also a founding member of the Minnesota Diversity Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to recruiting, mentoring and retaining underrepresented minorities in Minnesota. Al has also been recognized by the Midway-Como Monitor for his involvement in after-school youth literacy programs.
