Blank Rome is pleased to announce that Carl M. Buchholz has been named Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Blank Rome LLP. Mr. Buchholz currently serves as Executive Partner for the Firm and will assume his new position effective July 1, 2006.

“Carl has played an integral role in the Firm’s growth strategy. He has developed strong relationships with attorneys and clients in each of our major markets and gained understanding of the business of law and the demands of the legal marketplace,” said David Girard-diCarlo, Blank Rome’s Chairman. “He is a skilled attorney and has proven himself to be a forward-looking and dynamic leader. Carl has demonstrated tremendous focus, determination, and dedication to the success of Blank Rome and I am certain he will lead the Firm with distinction moving forward.”

Mr. Buchholz rejoined Blank Rome as Executive Partner in 2003 after serving as Special Assistant to the President and Executive Secretary at the White House Office of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C. While at the White House, Mr. Buchholz worked with then Director of Homeland Security Tom Ridge and President Bush to develop the Administration’s policies on the war on terror.

Since rejoining Blank Rome as Executive Partner, Mr. Buchholz has successfully guided many Firm initiatives, including strategic planning, firm diversity initiatives, best practices policies, pro bono efforts, and marketing.

“Carl has clearly demonstrated his ability to lead and manage in his role as Executive Partner of the Firm, a position that was created and designed to groom the future leadership of the Firm,” said Fred Blume, who will be stepping down as Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer by June 30, 2006. “The combination of Carl’s leadership skills, legal savvy, and business acumen makes him exceptionally qualified to lead Blank Rome.”

In addition to his new role, Mr. Buchholz will continue to concentrate his practice in the area of complex commercial litigation, including environmental, insurance, class action, and patent litigation. Mr. Buchholz also serves as Senior Principal in Blank Rome Government Relations LLC, representing a broad range of technology, communications, and healthcare clients before the Congress, the Administration, and independent agencies in legislative and regulatory matters. Mr. Buchholz has received the honor of being named Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the East, and is also listed in the Best Lawyers in America as one of “the best” in the field of commercial litigation.

“Under Fred’s leadership, Blank Rome has experienced significant growth, increased profitability, and secured a strong presence within the communities where we do business,” noted Carl Buchholz. “The Firm’s success is due in large part to our commitment to providing excellent client service. As Blank Rome continues to grow, I will work to ensure that we strengthen these close relationships, enhance the Blank Rome brand, and facilitate the Firm’s growth strategies.”

Mr. Buchholz is also actively involved in numerous community and charitable organizations. Among his many roles and committees, Mr. Buchholz serves as an Executive Committee Member of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Executive Committee Chairman of Philadelphia Academies Inc., an independent nonprofit corporation dedicated to strengthening public school students’ academic and occupational skills.
