Cooley Godward Expands Intellectual Property Litigation and Life Sciences
Cooley Godward LLP announced today that Thomas F. Poché has joined the Firm as a partner in its intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution practice. Dr. Poché is experienced in all areas of patent practice pertaining to life sciences, and his particular focus has been patent litigation. He is resident in Cooley’s Washington, D.C. office.

“Tom has tremendous expertise as a life sciences IP litigator,” said Frank Pietrantonio, partner in charge of Cooley’s firm wide intellectual property practice. “The addition of Tom significantly broadens and deepens Cooley’s life sciences litigation capability.”

Dr. Poché was previously a partner in the Washington, DC office of Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP. Prior to that he specialized in intellectual property litigation at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP in Washington, D.C. and Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Chicago.

Dr. Poché graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985 with a B.A. in chemistry. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in biochemistry and molecular biology in 1992. Before entering law school, he worked as a graduate student and post-doctoral researcher studying the developmental regulation of mammalian gene expression. In 1995, he graduated from Boston University Law School magna cum laude. Dr. Poché is admitted to practice in Illinois and Washington, D.C. He is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

EIGHT ROTHMAN GORDON PARTNERS NAMED PENNSYLVNIA SUPER LAWYERS
Eight attorneys at Rothman Gordon P.C. have been named Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for 2006. Recognized lawyers include R. Douglas (Doug) DeNardo, James W. Ummer, and K. Sidney (Casey) Neuman for Estates Planning/Trusts; Thomas R. Solomich and Samuel L. Douglass for Real Estate; and James W. Carroll, Jr., Stephen H. Jordan, and Louis B. Kushner for Labor & Employment. Law and Politics Magazine and Philadelphia Magazine mailed more than 36,000 ballots to attorneys across Pennsylvania, asking them to vote for the best lawyers that they had personally observed in action. The nominees were reviewed and scored, with only the top 5% of Pennsylvania lawyers receiving the distinction.

Mr. Kushner was also named one of The Top 100 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers, which is a list of the 100 attorneys who received the highest point totals in the state. Mr. Kushner and Mr. Jordan were both listed on The Top 50 Pittsburgh Super Lawyers, which is a list of the lawyers within the Pittsburgh area who received the highest point totals in the balloting and review process.

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Rice Joins Lerach Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins LLP
Lerach Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins LLP (“Lerach Coughlin”) announced today that John J. Rice, a 15-year veteran of the United States Attorney’s Office, has joined the firm’s securities-fraud task force. Mr. Rice joins Lerach Coughlin after spending almost two decades prosecuting a wide array of complex white-collar criminal cases. Most recently, he worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of California, specializing in public corruption cases. He has also served stints prosecuting organized crime for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York and was nominated to serve as Branch Chief in the Northern Mariana Islands, prosecuting public corruption and white-collar criminal cases.

Mr. Rice has been praised for his diligent efforts to combat graft, corruption and collusion among public and private officials in San Diego. In 2005, he was a member of the trial team that obtained guilty verdicts against the acting San Diego Mayor and a well-known councilman on federal corruption charges. Mr. Rice is also currently an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego Law School, most recently teaching a course in Federal Crimes.

LEADING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LAWYER JOINS BLAKES

Rose Law Firm Names Steve Joiner CEO
Wilson Jones, Chairman of the Board of Rose Law Firm, announces that Stephen N. Joiner has been named the firm's chief executive officer. Joiner, who has been with the firm since 1987, concentrates his law practice on commercial law and energy regulation. Joiner has served for the past five years as the firm's litigation practice manager and for five years has been on the firm's executive and compensation committees. The other members of the firm's executive committee are David Martin, Gary Garrett, Wilson Jones, and Brian Rosenthal.

Also, Rose Law Firm is pleased to annouce that Mike Ptak has joined the firm in an of counsel position. Ptak, previously with Pender, McCastlain & Ptak, practices in the area of debtor/creditor relations and civil litigation and is past president of the Debtor-Creditor Bar of Central Arkansas, Inc.

David A. Garfinkel Named Vice Chair of The Florida Bar Marital and Family Law Certification Committee
The Florida Bar has appointed David A. Garfinkel, Rogers Towers, PA, as Vice Chair of the Marital and Family Law Certification Committee. Garfinkel, who is a board certified marital and family law attorney, will begin a one-year term on July 1. In this position he will serve on the peer review group that grants certification to attorneys who specialize in family law and meet the highest standards of professionalism, competency and experience in their field. Certification is the highest recognition an attorney is given by The Florida Bar and is recognized as such by the Supreme Court of Florida.

The Florida Family Law American Inn of Court also recognizes Garfinkel as a leading attorney in family law. The organization comprised of judges, attorneys, law professors and students, named Garfinkel the 2006 Hernandez Professionalism Award recipient during a ceremony on May 12, 2006. The Honorable Judge Waddell A. Wallace, III, president of the Florida Family Law American Inn of Court, presented the award.

Lisa Prager, Former Federal Prosecutor and Commerce Department Export Enforcement Official, Joins Miller & Chevalier

Her work as an AUSA included some of the most challenging cases in the office, including the first ever indictment of a Chinese state-owned entity and McDonnell-Douglas in a case involving export controls violations. She also handled federal cases involving terrorism, wire and mail fraud, and economic espionage violations.

At BIS, Ms. Prager led the Commerce Department’s export enforcement efforts, managed a large staff of investigators, and established an administrative process for resolving cases on a more transparent and expedited basis. She managed many of the largest export controls settlements and indictments in Commerce Department history.

Ms. Prager moves to Miller & Chevalier from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, where her work included a mix of high-level compliance and enforcement matters involving U.S. laws with international ramifications.
