Cadwalader Earns Chambers USA Accolades
America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, named Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP as a leading national law firm in the areas of capital markets, financial services, aviation, wealth management, insolvency and restructuring, corporate/M&A, health care, insurance, commercial litigation, securities litigation, real estate, and tax. Members of the firm’s capital markets department were praised in three areas of specialization. The guide states that “[t]he attorneys at Cadwalader have ‘really mastered the art of securitization.” The group stands as ""a distinct domestic and international leader,"" with sizable teams of ""sharp and highly intelligent lawyers"" throughout its ranks and across its New York, DC and Charlotte offices.” Cited in particular are the ""the world's best CMBS practice,"" as well as the excellence of the RMBS and ABS practices. The derivatives practice is described as a “team of ‘formidable lawyers,” with prominence in credit derivatives and as ""second to none"" in the municipal swaps market. In a new category for 2006, the CDO group “has maintained an `undeniable hegemony’ in the CDO market since its inception.” Cadwalader ranked for the first time in the area of Financial Services: Regulatory Enforcement & Investigations based on the firm’s creation of a Securities and Financial Institutions Regulation Department in 2005. Chambers reports that clients are impressed by the group's performance before regulatory agencies such as the SEC, NASD, NYSE and the OCC. Also recognized for the first time was the firm’s Private Client Department in the new category of Wealth Management. Contacts: Claudia Freeman +1 212 504 6470 claudia.freeman@cwt.com Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP 2 Chambers also notes that it has been an eventful year for Cadwalader’s aviation group with the near-simultaneous chapter 11 filings of clients Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines. The Financial Restructuring Department, which is representing Northwest in its chapter 11 case, is hailed as an “outstanding team” that “straddles the divide between creditor and debtor cases with remarkable success.” The department is also praised “for skillfully integrating aspects of both its structured finance and capital markets practice into its bankruptcy advice.” Cadwalader’s Corporate/M&A Department was hailed for being “exceptional in its proactiveness, commercial skills and general ability to get down and do deals.” Noting the depth of expertise in the department, Chambers points out that ""the work of the team is excellent."" Chambers also singled out the firm’s Healthcare practitioners as “always a contender for highlevel healthcare advocacy and regulatory work."" A “talent pool of premium specialists in the field” distinguishes the Insurance and Reinsurance group according to Chambers. Among clients, ""this group is hugely admired for its tough yet effective style in convincing umpires, judges and juries."" The Litigation Department is applauded for its excellence not only in insurance and reinsurance but also in general litigation and securities litigation. The department is held in high esteem by Chambers for its ability to attract Wall Street’s most important financial entities and for advantageous collaboration between the New York and Washington, D.C. offices. “Going great guns on the CMBS side,” the Global Finance Department’s Real Estate Group is noted as “a dominant market leader for real estate finance.” “Simply one of the leading national teams for CMBS work,” the group is nevertheless recognized as a “powerhouse for all types of lender side financing.” Cadwalader’s “sophisticated” Tax Department earned acclaim for its instrumental role in major M&A transactions and is singled out as “a leader for structured finance work.” About Chambers Rankings in Chambers’ guides are the result of a year’s worth of independent research, including over 4,500 interviews across the US, and are based solely upon recommendation from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP 3 clients and peers. BROWN RUDNICK AND ALBERT W. WALLIS RECEIVE 2006 ROBERT B. FRASER AWARD FOR PRO BONO EXCELLENCE
The Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts of Massachusetts, Inc. (VLA) has selected both the law firm of Brown Rudnick and Albert W. Wallis, Executive Director of The Brown Rudnick Center for the Public Interest, to be individual recipients of the 2006 Robert B. Fraser Award for Pro Bono Excellence. The award is given annually to an attorney, firm, or legal services organization that shows a sincere dedication to servicing the needs of the cultural and artistic communities of Massachusetts. This is the first time the VLA is recognizing both the accomplishments of an individual attorney and the pro bono work of a law firm in the same year. Brown Rudnick was honored for its ongoing pro bono work on behalf of low-income clients referred through the VLA, and most recently for creating a Fee Collection Initiative, where firm attorneys provide pro bono representation to a variety of artists who are having difficulty getting paid for their work. Al Wallis was individually named for his outstanding leadership of The Brown Rudnick Center for the Public Interest, the umbrella entity that encompasses all of the firm’s pro bono legal work, charitable giving, community involvement and public interest efforts. The awards ceremony will be held on June 15, 2006 during the VLA’s annual Jazz Night Benefit at Sculler’s Jazz Club in Cambridge, Mass. According to James Grace, Executive Director of the VLA, “This is the first time we are presenting two Robert B. Fraser awards. We identified Brown Rudnick as this year’s award recipient, but we found we could not undervalue the individual commitment, enthusiasm and leadership of Al Wallis. Under his strategic direction and guidance, the Center has taken a leadership role in supporting the mission of the VLA and helping indigent artists gain access to legal counsel.” Comments Al Wallis, “Brown Rudnick strives to take a leadership position on many public interest matters in the community including education and children’s issues, public health and homelessness, and cultural and social enrichment. It is an honor for the firm -- and for me personally -- to be recognized by the VLA, an organization whose public focus is to help address the unmet legal needs of the artistic community.” 2 Andrew Strehle, Brown Rudnick’s Administrative Partner who also chairs the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee and leads the Fee Collection Initiative, adds, “Pro bono work is an integral part of Brown Rudnick’s culture, and our representation of VLA clients has been particularly rewarding. Al Wallis worked with other Brown Rudnick attorneys to establish our Fee Collection Initiative when we noticed that a number of VLA clients were having difficulty collecting outstanding fees for work rendered. Our pro bono efforts are helping talented artists sustain a living at their craft. We are honored to receive the Robert B. Fraser Award in recognition of this work.” About the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts of Massachusetts, Inc. Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts of Massachusetts, Inc.
