Ropes & Gray is pleased to announce that Geoffrey P. Leonard and Scott D. Elliott have joined the firm’s West Coast corporate practice, where they will represent clients in securities, corporate finance and general corporate matters, and will also participate in the firm’s private equity practice.

Leonard and Elliott, who have joined Ropes & Gray as partners, were both formerly partners in the Silicon Valley office of Orrick. At Orrick, their practice emphasized representing emerging growth and established technology companies, including life sciences, in the areas of securities and finance, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions, among other areas. Leonard and Elliott both also have extensive experience representing venture capital firms and investment banks. Leonard came to Orrick from Cravath, Swaine & Moore.

Leonard and Elliott are the latest in a series of high-profile additions to Ropes & Gray’s California corporate practice. In August 2005, Brian C. “Geoff and Scott have a great track record heading up strategic initiatives,” said John Chesley, partner in charge of the firm’s San Francisco office. “They bring proven results in practice development and firm growth, and they are committed to hiring and training talented attorneys. Those traits fit beautifully with our West Coast strategy.”

Leonard earned his law degree cum laude in 1981 from the Georgetown University Law Center, three years after completing his undergraduate studies at Trinity College. He is a member of the New York State Bar and the California State Bar.
