Sideman & Bancroft LLP Partner Elizabeth Erhardt Co-Authors Award-Winning CEB Publication on Domestic Partnerships
Elizabeth Erhardt, a partner in the Civil Litigation and Real Estate practice groups at Sideman & Bancroft LLP has authored ""Creation and Recognition of Domestic Partnership Regimes in California,"" the introductory chapter to a ground-breaking publication that provides the first ever comprehensive treatment of legal issues concerning California’s Domestic Partner Rights and Responsibilities Act.

Published by the Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), California Domestic Partnerships has just received the 2006 award for Professional Excellence by the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA). The annual awards are highly competitive and this book was singled out from a field of more than 300 entrants, from several countries, to receive ACLEA’s top honor in the ""Best Publication"" category.

Because California’s recent Domestic Partner Rights and Responsibilities Act for the first time applies the Family Code to same-sex partners, the Act opens up a new area of law and California Domestic Partnerships is the first book to explain and guide attorneys in its use. The legal treatise addresses the rights and obligations of both registered and unregistered domestic partners.

Same-sex domestic partners require the comprehensive expertise of diverse legal professionals who are able to integrate the complexities of real estate law, estate planning, and tax law into the newly available family law framework.

It is this level of comprehensive, integrated expertise that Sideman & Bancroft LLP is uniquely able to provide to its clients. With 29 attorneys, including 19 partners, it is the only firm of its stature and size in San Francisco with well-established practice groups in Family Law, Estate Planning, Tax, and Real Estate.

Ms. Erhardt, who focuses on litigation involving real property rights, trust disputes and domestic partnership dissolutions, often collaborates with Sideman & Bancroft partners Diana Richmond and Ellen Kahn. Diana Richmond leads the Family Law practice and is a distinguished attorney, mediator and private judge with a national reputation earned for her authority and experience in family law. Partner Ellen Kahn specializes in all aspects of estate and tax planning. In addition to offering clients the broad technical excellence and creative solutions that registered and non-registered domestic partnerships increasingly require, the depth of expertise within Sideman & Bancroft ensures that sensitive matters crossing legal specialties are kept private and protected within the firm.

Since its founding 28 years ago, Sideman & Bancroft LLP has grown into a nationally recognized and highly acclaimed boutique law firm. Clients include individuals, partnerships and companies – from start-ups to Fortune 100 – in a wide range of professions and industries. The firm offers the collective expertise of counsel in complementary legal fields who share a commitment to offering the highest quality representation with a dedication to personal attention and responsiveness.
