Marie Oldham, Corporate Finance Attorney, Joins Chapman and Cutler
Adding another experienced transactional attorney to its broad-based finance practice, leading financial services law firm Chapman and Cutler LLP announced that Marie C. Oldham has joined as a partner in the Chicago office.

Ms. Oldham, 45, represents banks, financial institutions and investment funds – as well as borrowers – in large capitalization and middle-market lending transactions. She also frequently advises creditors in out-ofcourt restructurings and liquidations, as well as in bankruptcy court. She joins Chapman from Winston & Strawn, where she was a finance and corporate lending partner.

Ms. Oldham’s representations cover a span of structures and deals, including senior, second lien, and mezzanine debt, as well as debtor-in-possession financing. Her industry experience is likewise diverse. Ms. Oldham has led financing transactions involving manufacturing, energy, heavy industrial, factoring and financial services clients.

“Marie has spent her career handling complex financings for participants across the capital structure – there are few attorneys with her broad knowledge base of large-cap and particularly middle-market lending transactions,” said Chapman and Cutler’s Corporate Finance leader Michael G. McGee. “Her knowledge of the lending landscape, especially her experience with non-traditional lenders and funds, will be of significant value to our financial institution clients. On many levels, Marie is a great addition to our practice.”

Richard A. Cosgrove, Chapman’s chief executive partner, also welcomed Ms. Oldham. “Marie is superbly grounded in financial institutions work – she has represented some of the biggest marquee lenders in the industry and brings an outstanding transactional track record, as well as major relationships among banks, funds, and even equity sponsors. We are getting a deeply talented financing partner.”

Ms. Oldham is the latest in a group of established finance and corporate attorneys to join Chapman in the last six months. The firm recently added asset securitization partner Todd Plotner; aircraft leasing partner Lynne Gochanour and corporate finance partner Farhad Patel. Chapman also recently added a group of corporate, real estate and litigation partners to its Salt Lake City office, as well as two senior finance partners – Patrick Lawler and Christopher Oliver – to its San Francisco office. 2

“Chapman and Cutler understands sophisticated transactional finance as well as any firm I can think of – its longtime core financial focus was hugely appealing to my practice,” Ms. Oldham said. “Chapman offers tremendous industry knowledge and attorney resources, not only for the kind of large-cap and middle-market work I do, but also for my bankruptcy and workout representations. On top of that, the collaborative culture of the firm was a definite draw – attorneys here are highly willing to share their knowledge in structuring transactions.”

Ms. Oldham received her J.D., from the University of Illinois College of Law (1986) where she was a member of the Law Review and her B.S from Southern Illinois University (1983). She is also a Certified Public Accountant.
