DaQuana L. Carter of Pepper Hamilton Elected Treasurer of the Barristers\' Association of Philadelphia
DaQuana L. Carter, an associate with Pepper Hamilton LLP, has been elected treasurer of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia for a term of one year. The election was held during the Barristers’ Association’s June monthly meeting.

Ms. Carter, who has been a member of the Barristers’ Association since 2004, concentrates her practice in health effects litigation. She is a member of the advisory board of Womens Way and a member of the leadership board of the Villanova University Minority Alumni Society.

Established in 1950, the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia (www.phillybarristers.org) addresses the professional needs and development of African-American lawyers in Philadelphia and its surrounding counties through programs such as seminars, cultural events and publications. The Association also sponsors or participates in activities that promote youth awareness and career opportunities in the legal profession.

Pepper Hamilton LLP is a multi-practice law firm with 400 lawyers in six states and the District of Columbia. Adlerstein Named as 2006 Southern California Rising Star
C. Dovi Adlerstein, an associate in the Corporate & Finance Department of Kaye Scholer's Los Angeles office, was named to the 2006 Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars for his work in Mergers & Acquisitions. Mr. Adlerstein will appear in the July 2006 issue of Los Angeles magazine and in Southern California Super Lawyers - Rising Stars Edition. Only 2.5 percent of the Southern California attorneys (Los Angeles and Orange counties) are given this honor. Rising Stars are selected by peer nomination and independent research on candidates. This is the third consecutive year Mr. Adlerstein was named a Rising Star.

John J. Christopher elected to NYS Association of School Attorneys board of directors
John J. Christopher, a partner in Hodgson Russ LLP’s Education Law Practice Group, was recently elected to the board of directors of the New York State Association of School Attorneys, an organization that provides support to the New York State Association of School Boards and educational opportunities for attorneys who represent school boards and school districts across New York State.

Since 1988, Mr. Christopher has represented school districts in all aspects of Education Law and employee-relations issues, including the full range of school board issues, the defense of employment discrimination matters before state and federal agencies and in the courts, representing school districts before governmental agencies, bargaining collective negotiations agreements, handling grievances and arbitrations, and conducting employee termination procedures. He advises school boards and assists with the development of policies and procedures for compliance with state and federal law, and he counsels school districts in special education matters, students discipline proceedings, and other matters.

Mr. Christopher has written numerous articles on education law and offers training programs at school districts, and he is in frequent demand as a speaker.

Fulbright Dallas Attorney Makes “40 Under 40” List
Aimee Fagan, business and securities litigation counselor in Fulbright's Dallas location, was one of the 40 professionals under the age 40 recognized by the Dallas Business Journal (DBJ) as leaders in their fields and in the community.

DallasDBJ observed that Fagan has tried and won major cases and handled significant securities and commercial litigation matters across Texas. She also co-chairs the Dallas Bar Association's Trial Skills Section and also serves on the Council for the DBA's Business Litigation Section.

In addition, Fagan is a Texas Monthly Rising Star in business litigation and was listed as one of the Best Lawyers Under 40 in Dallas by D Magazine.

Fagan focuses her practice on business and securities litigation, including securities class actions, business litigation, and high-dollar fiduciary litigation (including estate and trust actions). She has significant trial and other courtroom experience as lead counsel, including several successful jury trials and bench trials.

Deborah Garza Named as One of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America by The National Law Journal
Deborah Garza, an antitrust partner in the Washington, DC office of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, today was selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America by The National Law Journal. Ms. Garza’s practice involves the full range of antitrust counseling and litigation, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions.

In the search for the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America, researchers from The National Law Journal looked for attorneys “outside the government with the clout to influence big things to happen”. Their criteria for selection included lawyers who had a national impact in their fields and beyond with the power to shape public affairs, launch industries, stir up change and get things accomplished.

Ms. Garza has been immersed in public and private sector antitrust for the past 25 years. She has served in the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division during both the Reagan and Bush Administrations, as Chief of Staff and Counselor and as a Special Assistant. Most notably, Ms. Garza received a congressional appointment to preside as chairwoman of the Antitrust Modernization Commission (AMC). The panel of experts appointed to the AMC study the U.S. antitrust laws and report findings and recommendations to the President and Congress.

Carol Ann Marunich Joins Dinsmore & Shohl LLP
Carol Ann Marunich has joined Dinsmore & Shohl LLP as a Partner in its Health Care Practice Group, concentrating in the medical malpractice defense of physicians and hospitals, and civil litigation with an emphasis on trial work. She will practice from the Morgantown, WV office.

Ms. Marunich is a 1991 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law and also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from WVU. She has concentrated her practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense and health care law. She has successfully defended a variety of medical negligence cases on behalf of physicians and hospitals statewide. She also provides advice to hospitals and health care providers on issues relating to licensing, medical staff issues, physician employment contracts, peer review, and hospital by-laws.
