Peter Van Dyke Named Top 100 Labor Attorney in America
Peter T. Van Dyke, a shareholder with the law firm of McAfee & Taft, is the only Oklahoman to be recently named to the list of “Top One Hundred Labor Attorneys in the United States” for 2006, as compiled by Labor Relations Institute, Inc.

Inclusion on the list puts Van Dyke in the top one percent of all labor attorneys in the United States, making him one of the most active attorneys representing companies in National Labor Relations Board-monitored elections.

Van Dyke made the list by being selected from more than 8,700 attorneys evaluated by Labor Relations Institute, a leading industry information source. The honor of “Top One Hundred” was determined by the number of NLRB elections in which each attorney provided representation and the success of those election outcomes.

“To be included in the Top One Hundred is a tremendously prestigious honor,” said LRI president Donald P. Wilson. “It demonstrates a long-term and highly professional dedication to those attorneys’ clients and profession.”

Van Dyke's achievements in the area of labor and employment law have also earned him recognition and inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and Who’s Who in American Law. In addition to his law practice, he also serves as an adjunct professor at the Oklahoma City University School of Law.

McAfee & Taft serves clients throughout the Southwest and nationally in the areas of aviation, business law, corporate and securities, employee benefits, entertainment, environmental law, healthcare, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, oil and gas, real estate, and tax and family wealth. The firm employs over 200 Oklahomans, including nearly 120 attorneys.

Riley Receives National Advocacy Award
Richard W. Riley has been honored nationally for his work to improve education for all children. He received the Voice of Conscience award from Public Advocates Inc. during the nonprofit organization's 35th anniversary dinner in San Francisco June 7.

""I was certainly honored,"" Riley said. ""I'm back in South Carolina, and Greenville is my main interest now, but I still have a strong interest in what's happening nationally, and to have a major advocacy group in California recognize me certainly meant a lot to me.""

Voice of Conscience awards are given annually to people or organizations who advance justice and make progressive social change.

Riley, former U.S. Secretary of Education and former S.C. governor, was selected in part for his national leadership in issues Public Advocates is working on at the state and national level, such as fair opportunities for children from all backgrounds to get a good education. The organization also cited his work in the movement to have education systems deal with high standards for all children and not just some children, a task he was involved with in the 1980s as governor and in the 1990s when he was U.S. secretary of education.

Riley, a senior partner of the Nelson Mullins law firm, described Public Advocates Inc. as an organization that advocates for disadvantaged, low-income, disabled people, especially children. He said his law firm has for years been involved pro bono in representing the poor rural school districts profiled in the ""Corridor of Shame"" documentary.
