Buist Moore Welcomes Second Class of 2006 Summer Clerks
Isabel DuPree is attending the University of North Carolina School of Law. In 2000 she received her B.S. in Economics with a Political Science Minor from Duke University. After graduation Ms. DuPree worked in banking for both Bank of America and Wachovia Securities in Charlotte, NC. Ms. DuPree will clerk at Buist Moore until the second week in August.

Shawan Gillians attends William and Mary School of Law. Ms. Gillians received her B.A. in Economics and Religion from Wofford College in 2004; during which time she worked with the South Carolina Public Service Authority as a law clerk. After graduation, Ms. Gillians worked as an intern with Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough in Charleston, SC. Shawan Gillians clerked at Buist Moore in the summer of 2005 and will be here through the fourth week in July.

David H. Kunes is attending the University of South Carolina School of Law. In 2002, Mr. Kunes received his B.A. in Economics from Davidson College. After graduation he spent almost two years as a corporate paralegal with Weill, Gotshal & Manges in New York City. He was also a legal assistant at Evans, Carter, Kunes & Bennett in Charleston, SC. Mr. Kunes clerked at Buist Moore in the summer of 2005 and will be here through the second week in August.

Peter D. Robinson attends the University of Virginia School of Law. In 2002 he received his B.A. in both English and American studies from the Univeristy of Wyoming. After graduation he worked as a member of AmeriCorps, an English Teacher in Nakatsu, JP and as a Research Assistant at UVA. Mr. Robinson will clerk at the firm until the fourth week in August.

Joshua S. Whitley is attending William and Mary School of Law. Mr. Whitley received his B.A. in Government and Business Economics from Wofford College in 2005; during which time he worked as a Resident Advisor. In the summers of 2004 and 2005 he worked as a law clerk for the South Carolina Public Service Authority in Moncks Corner, SC. Mr. Whitley will clerk at Buist Moore until the fourth week in July.

Two Buchanan Ingersoll Attorneys Selected as Virginia Super Lawyers
Buchanan Ingersoll PC is proud to announce that two of the firm's attorneys have been honored by their peers and selected as Virginia Super Lawyers. More than 30,000 attorneys across the state were asked to nominate lawyers, and only the top 5 percent of Virginia lawyers received this distinction.

Those honored from Buchanan Ingersoll were Intellectual Property shareholders George A. Hovanec, Jr. and Charles F. Wieland, III.

The criteria reviewed for the award include: noteworthy verdicts or settlements; creativity or innovation within the legal process; number of cases tried or transactions handled; years in practice; position within firm; professional activities; writings and lectures; community involvement and volunteer work; professional degrees or training; and academic background, including honors and clerkships.

The results of the survey will be published by Law & Politics Media, Inc. in its annual publication Virginia Super Lawyers, as well as in Richmond Magazine.

RKC Attorney Messersmith Elected to Executive Board of Paul C. Perkins Bar Association
Candy Messersmith, an associate at Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, was recently elected parliamentarian of the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association’s executive board.

The Paul C. Perkins Bar Association is comprised primarily of African-American lawyers who serve the Central Florida community. It promotes diversity in the legal profession and holds fund-raisers to provide scholarships to members of the Black Law Students Association at Barry University School of Law and FAMU College of Law.

At Rumberger, Messersmith practices insurance coverage and bad faith, casualty defense, and engages in appellate practice. She is a member of the Orange County Bar Association.

Jackson of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell Elected President of the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association
LaShawnda K. Jackson, an associate at Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, was recently elected president of the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association. Jackson previously served as the organization’s treasurer and vice president.

The Paul C. Perkins Bar Association is primarily comprised of African-American lawyers who serve the Central Florida community. It promotes diversity in the legal profession and holds fund-raisers to provide scholarships to minorities enrolled in Florida law schools.

Jackson – who practices casualty defense, product liability and insurance coverage – is a member of the Orange County Bar Association. She co-chairs the Orange County Bar Association’s Head Start Program Committee and the Great Oaks Village Project Committee of the Young Lawyers Section. In addition, Jackson serves as chairwoman of the Scholarship Committee for the Paul C. Perkins Bar Association.

Thirteen Rogers Towers Attorneys Selected as \'Super Lawyers\'
Law & Politics has chosen thirteen attorneys from Rogers Towers as exclusive members of the “Florida 2006 Super Lawyers” list. This list includes only 5 percent of licensed active attorneys in the state of Florida.

Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. More than 60 practice areas are included. Super Lawyers is distributed as a special supplement in leading newspapers and is also published in leading city and regional magazines across the country. The companion “Super Lawyers” magazine is distributed to all attorneys in a state.

“We are thrilled that such a large number of attorneys from our firm have received the recognition that they deserve,” said Douglas A. Ward, managing director, Rogers Towers. “It is an enormous accomplishment to be so highly regarded by your peers.”

Law & Politics uses a multi-step selection process that takes approximately nine months. A survey is sent to all lawyers in the state that have practiced for at least 5 years. In addition, Law & Politics researches credentials of nominees, assembles a blue ribbon review panel of leading attorneys from each practice area, directly contacts lawyers and law firm representatives, verifies data and conducts a good-standing review of candidates.

Eighteen Attorneys Recognized as Virginia Super Lawyers
