More Lane Powell Attorneys Named in Best of Survey
Thirteen Lane Powell attorneys from the Seattle office were named in a "Best Lawyers 2006" survey published by Seattle Metropolitan magazine. The list is excerpted from the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America®, whose members are determined through an exhaustive evaluation done by their peers. CORPORATE DIRECTORS NAME AKIN GUMP AS ONE OF AMERICA'S TOP LAW FIRMS
For the sixth consecutive year, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has been recognized by corporate directors as one of America’s top 20 law firms, according to a recent survey compiled by Corporate Board Member magazine (“America’s Best Corporate Law Firms,” July/August 2006).

The survey asked directors of publicly traded companies nationwide to identify the law firms they most admire, nationally and in 25 metropolitan areas. In addition to being lauded as one of the top 20 law firms nationally, Akin Gump was named as a leader in the Dallas legal market.

In a separate survey, general counsel named Akin Gump as one of the 20 law firms they would most want to represent their companies on national matters.

Marshall S. Honeyman Joins Lathrop & Gage as Of Counsel
Marshall S. Honeyman has joined the Overland Park office of the Lathrop & Gage L.C. law firm as of counsel in the intellectual property and patents practice area.

Honeyman’s practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law with an emphasis on advising clients with respect to patent matters. More specifically, he handles the filing and prosecution of patent applications, conducts numerous infringement and validity analyses, and advises clients with respect to patent litigation matters.

Honeyman earned his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University in 1988 and his juris doctorate from Washburn University in 1991. Honeyman is admitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the Wichita Bar Association, Johnson County Bar Association, The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), and the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO).

Jack M. Merritts Joins Lathrop & Gage as Of Counsel
Jack M. Merritts has joined the Denver office of the Lathrop & Gage, L.C. law firm as of counsel in the real estate practice area.

Merritts’ practice includes real estate law representing individuals, developers and mineral exploration and development companies in acquisition of easements and rights-of way including railroad spur lines, as well as access across other easements and rights-of way owned by utilities, railroads, government entities and other developers. He also handles commercial litigation cases as well as Mining, Environmental Regulation and Oil and Gas.

Merritts earned his bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University in Mining Engineering, with highest distinction, in 1970 and his juris doctorate from Harvard University in 1973. Jack is a member of the American Bar Association; Colorado Bar Association; Denver Bar Association; Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States; American Arbitration Association, Commercial Division; Denver Area Oil and Gas Title Lawyers; and Colorado Hazardous Waste Management Society.

Sughrue Earns No. 4 Spot on IP Today s list of Top Trademark Firms
Sughrue now claims title to No 4 on the coveted ranking of Top Trademark Firms published by Intellectual Property Today Magazine. The annual rankings are based on the total number of trademarks registered for the year. Gary Vist Makes Income Principal at Masuda Funai
