“OPEB Lab” Debuts to Unprecedented Acclaim
San Francisco, California. Key decision makers from several cities, towns, and other municipalities in the San Francisco Bay area recently joined Chip Eady and Gisele Rainer (Public Finance, San Francisco) and Eric Paley (Labor & Employment, Rochester) in the San Francisco office for an inaugural “OPEB Lab”—an interactive workshop providing the latest legal insights about every aspect of the OPEB problem.

OPEB is widely acknowledged to be one of the biggest and most multidisciplinary problems ever to rock the public finance world. Officials from cities large and small shared their concerns and strategies as Chip and Eric provided real-time counseling across the spectrum of issues that only a firm like Nixon Peabody can cover. The officials, of which only one was a client, were surprised not only by the diversity of their specific situations, but also by the scope of issues with which they can and should be grappling—many of them far from obvious to people who routinely focus only on public finance.

Morrison & Foerster Ranks Sixth in The American Lawyer\'s A-List of Top 20 Law Firms
For the third year in a row, Morrison & Foerster has been named to The American Lawyer’s ""The A-List."" The firm climbed five spots to rank sixth in this year's list.

In evaluating firms for The A-list, The American Lawyer magazine ""aims to determine, as objectively as possible, the firms that have been able to build successful practices without abandoning the profession's core values."" Four areas are examined in determining the top 20 from the legal profession's 200 largest law firms: pro bono performance, diversity in the workplace, treatment and development of young lawyers, and financial performance.

Senior Biodefense Advisor Joins McKenna Long & Aldridge
The firm welcomes new Senior Advisor Jennifer Hannesschlager, who joined McKenna Long & Aldridgeto work on biodefense matters in the Government Contracts department of our Washington office.

Jennifer comes to us from Thomson Medstat, where she was a Senior Researcher. She received a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Notre Dame, Center for Global Health and Infectious Diseases in January. Jennifer earned her Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan in 2001, and Bachelor degrees in Biology and Community Health Education from the University of Kansas.

In her spare time, Jennifer is training for the Washington, DC marathon in November. She also loves cooking and traveling, and is a ""sudoku fanatic."" (Sudoku is a logic-based placement puzzle.)

International law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP is pleased to announce the appointment in its Paris office of corporate partner and private equity specialist Guillaume Kuperfils from Veil Jourde.

He advises numerous French and international companies on their strategies for growth and restructuring operations and regularly advises on investment and capital markets transactions on behalf of investment funds and companies. He is well known for his public M&A work and private equity transactions for mid to large LBOs.

He brings with him a team of four corporate assistants from Veil Jourde, Olivier Aubouin, Pascal Druhen-Charnaux, Eleonore Larramendy and Emmanuel Mimin who add significant depth to the well established Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw corporate practice in Paris.

Joe Will Ross has been appointed to the State Bar of Texas' Agricultural Law Committee. This is a three year appointment. The Agricultural Law committee's goal is to " [gather] information on the legal aspects of agriculture, [evaluate] the existing responses of the State Bar to problems of agricultural law, and [develop] appropriate programs to meet the challenges of agricultural law."
