Prominent Hospitality Attorney Kenneth Hatton Joins Sonnenschein in Brussels
Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today that Kenneth L. Hatton, one of Europe’s leading hospitality industry attorneys, has joined the law firm as a partner in its global hospitality/leisure group, based in Brussels, Belgium. Previously, Hatton was coordinator of the European hospitality practice at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. Also joining Sonnenschein’s global hospitality/leisure group in Brussels as an associate is Joanna Bochner, formerly with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

“Kenneth is among the most highly regarded attorneys in the European hospitality industry,” said Richard F. “Rick” Ross, who recently moved to Sonnenschein from Squire Sanders with a group of prominent hospitality/real estate attorneys to head the firm’s global hospitality/leisure group. “Sonnenschein clients around the world will be well served by his expertise on a wide range of legal issues affecting their businesses.”

Hatton’s practice focuses on projects involving the acquisition, development, financing and operation of hotels, resorts, condominium-hotels, spas and golf courses in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He has substantial experience in the negotiation and documentation of management, licensing and service agreements for owners and operators of hotels, resorts, spas and golf courses, the structuring of hotel acquisition and development joint venture vehicles, and the structuring and documenting condominium-hotels with residential and other mixed-used components.

Veteran of U.S. Attorney’s Office Joins Plunkett & Cooney, P.C.
Drawing upon her 20-year career as a paralegal for the U.S. Department of Justice, Sandra J. Densham recently passed the bar exam and has joined the Grand Rapids office of Plunkett & Cooney, P.C.

Densham, formerly a paralegal specialist with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Grand Rapids, will focus her practice in the areas of title insurance and labor and employment law, as well as in litigation involving premises, product and motor vehicle liability. She is a member of the firm’s Complex and Commercial Litigation practice groups.

Densham earned her law degree, magna cum laude, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, which she attended while working for the Justice Department assisting in the defense of the United States in civil cases. In 2004 the U.S. Attorney nominated her for the prestigious Department of Justice Director’s Award for her 20 years of outstanding contributions.

While in law school, Densham served as Senior Associate Editor of Law Review for which she received the John D. Voekler Award for Outstanding Contribution. She was also selected as one of the Top 10 Best Advocates in the First Year Criminal Procedure Moot Court competition. Densham received her B.B.A., summa cum laude, from Davenport University in 1992, where she received the Outstanding Graduate Award.

Jonathan Kahn Joins Firm’s New York Office
Morrison & Foerster LLP announced that Jonathan Kahn has joined the firm as partner in the Capital Markets practice group. The addition of Mr. Kahn further strengthens what has become one of the leading securities transactions practices in the country.

Mr. Kahn brings 15 years of experience in corporate finance transactions and securities matters, with particular experience in high-yield debt offerings. He has represented underwriters and issuers in a full range of securities transactions. He also has significant experience representing publicly held companies in general corporate and securities matters.

“Jon’s arrival enhances our existing Capital Markets practice and is yet another important step towards our expansion goals in New York,” said Morrison & Foerster’s Chair, Keith Wetmore. “We’re delighted to welcome Jon to the firm.”

Miller Canfield Attorney Appointed to Board of Commissioners of State Bar of Michigan
Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, P.L.C. is proud to announce that Beverly Hall Burns, a principal and deputy CEO of the law firm, was recently appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to the Board of Commissioners of the State Bar of Michigan. Burns will begin a three-year term in September as one of three commissioners-at-large.

The Board of Commissioners oversees the State Bar of Michigan’s operations, including finance, public policy, member services, and strategic planning, and is one of two governing bodies of the State Bar, the other being the Representative Assembly.

Burns practices labor law, representing both private and public sector employers in NLRB and state employment relations matters; labor negotiations; contract administration; and arbitration. She is also part of the firm’s School Law Group, specializing in school labor matters including cases under Michigan’s Teacher Tenure Act as well as in special education, student discipline, Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act issues.

She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor Law Section; the American Bar Association’s Labor Law Section and Committee on Law Firm Management; Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association; Michigan Council of School Attorneys; and National Council of School Attorneys. She serves on the board of directors of the Economic Club of Detroit as well as the Detroit Athletic Club, is a fellow of the Michigan Bar Foundation, and current chair of the board of trustees of the Michigan Women’s Foundation. She is a member of the Michigan State University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors and chair of the Alumni Board of the MSU College of Arts & Letters.

Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that Ms. Regina I. Covitt (“Ginger”) has joined the firm as a partner in the Tax and Wealth Services Department. She specializes in the areas of tax and estate planning, trust and estate administration, and charitable giving and tax exempt organizations.

Ms. Covitt’s estate planning experience includes a broad variety of matters pertaining to individuals and closely-held businesses, including:

creation and administration of living trusts, gift trusts and insurance trusts
advising of individual and corporate fiduciaries
formation and operation of charitable organizations
advising of individuals regarding international estate planning matters
probate court procedures
formation and dissolution of business entities, and
sophisticated transfer tax techniques.

Ms. Covitt is certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. She is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. District Court (Central District of California), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Tax Court. Ms. Covitt has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell (the highest rating for legal ability and general-ethical standards).

Ms. Covitt has authored or co-authored a number of books and articles on estate planning, including chapters in the California Continuing Education of the Bar publications of Drafting California Irrevocable Living Trusts (Second Edition) and Drafting California Revocable Living Trusts (Second Edition) and a chapter on community property law in How to Live - and Die - with California Probate (Second Edition, Gulf Publishing Co.). For several years, Ms. Covitt was a guest lecturer in the UCLA Law School Estate Planning Clinical program and she has spoken to other groups about estate planning topics and community property law.

She received her J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Law School in 1981. She received her M.A. from UCLA and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

In March of this year, Loeb & Loeb hired preeminent, nationally recognized trusts and estates lawyers Stuart Tobisman and Leah Bishop to lead and direct the growth of the firm’s Tax and Wealth Services Department.

Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that prominent, corporate attorney Angela M. Santoro Dowd will join the firm as partner in the Corporate Department. Ms. Dowd joins the firm from Golenbock, Eisemen, Assor, Bell & Peskoe, LLP.

Ms. Dowd joins our Loeb & Loeb's New York office where she represents clients in domestic and international corporate and securities transactions. She has participated in public offerings and private placements of a variety of debt and equity securities, Rule 144A high yield debt financings, IPOs, offerings involving the issuance of preferred equity, financings involving the use of convertible debt securities, issuance of Industrial Revenue Bonds, and offerings by foreign private issuers involving the use of American Depository Receipts. She received her J.D. from New York University and her B.A from Yale.

She has represented clients in the formation, financing, restructuring and dissolution of a variety of partnership, joint venture, limited liability company and corporate entities. She has also represented borrowers and lenders in connection with both secured and unsecured bank and other credit financings, including debtor-in-possession financings and exit financings.
