TEN DEAN MEAD LAWYERS NAMED TO FLORIDA TREND’S LEGAL ELITE
Ten attorneys from the law firm Dean Mead have been named to Florida Trend magazine's 2006 Florida Legal Elite. The Florida Legal Elite are the top lawyers practicing in Florida, according to the results of the magazine's statewide attorney surveys. Only 1.8% of the Florida Bar members who practice in the state were included in the list, including thirty-four percent (34%) of Dean Mead’s shareholders.

Lisa Wampler Elected to Board of Directors of Pittsburgh Chapter of The National Association of Women in Construction
Lisa M. Wampler, an attorney with Cohen, Seglias, Pallas, Greenhall & Furman in its downtown Pittsburgh office, has been elected as one of the directors on the Board for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) for 2006-2007.

The core purpose of The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is to enhance the success of women in the construction industry whose careers range from business ownership to skilled trades. Since it was founded in 1955, NAWIC has grown to over 6,000 members with chapters throughout the United States and Canada with some chapters internationally.

Ms. Wampler concentrates her practice in construction law and commercial litigation. She is admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Ms. Wampler is also a member of the Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania.

Susan Bell Joins Bernstein Shur Government Solutions
Susan J. Bell, a former legislator and senior advisor to former Governor Angus S. King, has joined Bernstein Shur Government Solutions as Senior Project Manager.

Bell, who most recently served as Director of the Office of Clerks of Court for the Maine State Judicial Branch in Augusta, brings an extensive career of public service to Bernstein Shur Government Solutions (BSGS), a consulting subsidiary of the regional law firm Bernstein Shur. BSGS helps a wide range of clients find solutions to complicated regulatory, legislative, and political issues.

A resident of Augusta, Bell provided strategic counsel and policy to Governor King from 1995 to 2003, serving on the Governor’s Executive Management Team.

In 1992, she was selected by Governor McKernan as the first woman in the United States to serve as Director of the Maine Forest Service, and previously served as Deputy Commissioner of the Maine Department of Conservation from 1987 to 1992. She also served three terms in the Maine House of Representatives from 1980 to 1986, representing the towns of Buckfield, Hebron, Paris, and West Paris.

In her new post, Bell will serve clients who require representation or coordination with the Departments of Education or Health and Human Services. Current projects include the Maine Readiness Campaign, a project with the Mitchell Institute and the Department of Education that focuses on high school reform.

A former biology teacher, Bell is a 1970 cum laude graduate of the University of Maine. She received a Master’s in Public Administration in 1993 and an MA in Teaching in 1971. She currently serves on the board of the Seven Islands Land Co., and served formerly as Vice President of the Kennebec Valley YMCA Board of Directors and as a Director of the University of Maine Alumni Association. In 1986, Sue was selected as Citizen of the Year by the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce.

Bernstein Shur Government Solutions is led by two of Maine’s most distinguished public policy strategists – Kay Rand, Governor Angus King’s former Chief of Staff; and Larry Benoit, who served as Chief of Staff to former U.S. Representative John Baldacci and in high-ranking capacities to Senators George Mitchell and Edmund Muskie during 30 years of congressional service.

Bernstein Shur Government Solutions assists municipalities and governmental agencies in interactions with private industry, state, and federal government; represents corporations and business community alliances before state and federal governmental agencies; and reviews failed or failing governmental programs and services to provide remedial solutions.

Bennett Jones partner appointed to the Intellectual Property Law Specialty Committee for the Law Society of Upper Canada
Bennett Jones LLP today announced that William (Bill) Vass has been appointed to the Intellectual Property Law Specialty Committee for the Law Society of Upper Canada for a three-year term.

In this role, Bill and other members of the committee will assess and recommend a lawyer's eligibility for certification as a specialist in intellectual property law to the Law Society's Certified Specialty Board.

His practice also includes intellectual property due diligence and strategic intellectual property asset management.

Bill is a registered patent agent and trademark agent in both Canada and the United States. He is appointed to the Canadian Patent Agent Examination board and is a fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.

Baird Holm Earns Highest Recognition From Chambers USA
Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, announced its 2006 rankings of law firms and lawyers nationwide. Baird Holm earned highest recognition for the four categories evaluated in Nebraska and published in the 2006 edition.

Chambers USA issues an annual client guide with rankings based solely on client research. The qualities on which rankings are assessed include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial awareness/astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the clients. The four categories ranked in Nebraska were corporate/commercial; employment; commercial litigation; and real estate. Baird Holm was listed as the number one firm in all four categories and 13 attorneys were recognized for their individual achievement.
