ROBERT WEINSTINE REACHES SETTLEMENT DEAL FOR CLIENT, STOCKWALK GROUP
The law firm of Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., announced today that it has reached a settlement for its client, Stockwalk Group, Inc. Deutsche Bank AG has settled the lawsuit filed by Stockwalk for an undisclosed sum. This settlement follows Deutsche Bank's December 2005 settlement of similar securities-fraud charges brought by a U.S. Bankruptcy Court trustee overseeing the liquidation of MJK Clearing, Inc., Stockwalk's former wholly-owned subsidiary, and other U.S. broker-dealers. That settlement was estimated at approximately $270 million.

Stockwalk filed the suit in September 2004 against Deutsche Bank, fugitive Saudi arms merchant Adnan Khashoggi and several others, alleging fraud, securities fraud, and violations of the RICO Act. Robert Weinstine handled the case for Winthrop & Weinstine. He estimated that, in addition to the loss of MJK Clearing, Stockwalk suffered between $75 million and $100 million in damages to its business. Litigation against the remaining defendants continues.

Winthrop & Weinstine’s founding partner Robert Weinstine, who has handled Stockwalk’s case since 2004, said, ""We are very pleased with the results. Our client received a fair settlement and can now focus on moving forward.""

It is expected that the settlement proceeds will be earmarked to repay Stockwalk's creditors.

In addition to Robert Weinstine, attorneys and paralegals working on the case at various levels include William McNab, Geoffrey Jarpe, David Pearson, Karl Robinson, Daniel Beck, Michael Rosow, Christopher Camardello, Constance White and Terry James.

Arizona’s Largest Animal Nonprofit Invites Shughart Thomson & Kilroy Attorney to Join Board
Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, P.C., is pleased to announce that attorney Kelly J. Flood has joined the Board of Directors of the Arizona Humane Society.

Shughart Thomson & Kilroy’s attorneys know that neighborhood outreach and support is important to build and sustain the community. “Phoenix is a vibrant and exciting city. One of our goals, as a growing Phoenix law firm, is the commitment to become involved with organizations that help make this a better place to live and work,” stated Marty Harper, Managing Partner of the Phoenix office. “Supporting our community’s economic and civic organizations fosters business growth and development, and significantly helps to improve the quality of life for our local citizens.”

Flood’s involvement with the Arizona Humane Society is a natural extension of her love of animals. “For me, it is a joy and a privilege,” explains Flood. “I direct the majority of my charitable giving to the Arizona Humane Society, because I believe in what the Society does for animals and our community. I look forward to becoming even more involved with the organization, helping animals find homes and also educating people about how to care for our animals.”

As a private, non-profit organization funded by donations, it is Arizona Humane Society’s goal to find homes for stray unwanted, abused, or sick animals. Board members support the organization’s charter, and help to drive efforts to fulfill the mission of building healthy relationships between people and animals.

“We are delighted to welcome Kelly to our Board of Directors, and we look forward to working with her as we strive to improve the lives of animals in our community,” says Cheryl Naumann, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Arizona Humane Society. “She brings a unique and valuable blend of professionalism and compassion, and will certainly be an asset to our organization.”

A practicing attorney with Shughart Thomson & Kilroy since 2000, Ms. Flood focuses primarily on commercial and class action litigation, employment law, and appellate work. Her legal experience includes prosecuting a significant class action antitrust case, handling wage and hour abuse cases, and submitting an appeal in a very important campaign finance case, that ultimately resulted in a favorable Arizona Supreme Court opinion. She received her J.D. in 1999 from the Arizona State University College of Law, and is a member of the Arizona State Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court, District of Arizona. She was also recently appointed to the Editorial Board of Arizona Attorney Magazine.
