WolfBlock Ranks Among Top Trademark Firms
WolfBlock has ranked among the country's top trademark firms following an annual survey conducted by Intellectual Property Today, a magazine that focuses on patent, trademark and copyright law.

The May 2006 issue of the publication names WolfBlock as #71 on this year's list, which is comprised of 126 law firms and individuals. The issue shows that WolfBlock prosecuted more than 100 trademarks in 2005.

In the past year and a half, the number of patent lawyers in WolfBlock's growing IP practice has quadrupled. Last February, WolfBlock expanded the practice with three partners and two associates from Steinberg & Raskin PC, a 25-year-old Manhattan-based IP boutique. These additions provided a significant boost to the practice's New York presence.

WolfBlock’s IP lawyers represent a national and international clientele in a broad range of intellectual property and information technology matters, including licensing and technology transfer, trademarks, patent prosecution and litigation, trade secrets and copyright.

Top firms were selected based on responses to a survey conducted by Intellectual Property Today in March. The data gathered outlined federal trademark registrations issued in 2005.

JUDGE MEYER SCHOLARSHIP WINNER AWARDED
An Albany Law School third-year student from Troy, Kathryn E. Basal (seen centered in the photo with MSEK Managing Attorney Lois Carter Schlissel and partner Andrew J. Turro), has won the Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship, a $2,500 award administered by the New York Bar Foundation for her piece ""What's a Legal System to Do? The Problem of Regulating Internet Pharmacies.""

Her essay, as summarized in a State Bar Association press release, ""examines the attraction and relative ease of buying drugs online without a valid prescription from a health care provider in light of the increasing number of Americans without health insurance and the skyrocketing cost at traditional pharmacies.""

The paper also discussed recent action by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in an attempt to combat the development of illegal online pharmacies, as well as federal and state proposals to deal with regulating legitimate Internet pharmacies.

The award was established in 2004. It is available to second-year law students who attend a law school in New York state and who exhibit excellence in legal writing and advocacy skills. The scholarship will be applied to Basal's tuition for the 2006 fall semester. She graduates next year.

Meyer was an associate judge of the state Court of Appeals form 1979-1986 and practiced with the Long Island-based firm of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein from 1987 until his death last year.
