Gilbert Heintz & Randolph Ranks in Chambers USA
Gilbert Heintz & Randolph LLP (GHR) and two of its partners have once again been ranked among the top in the nation in the area of policy holder insurance law by the 2006 Chambers USA: America’s Guide to Leading Lawyers for Business. Chambers USA rankings are based solely on interviews conducted by Chambers publishers with thousands of practitioners and clients nationwide.

Chambers noted that the firm is “synonymous with the innovative and creative approach it takes to its work. “Brilliant and bright,” Scott Gilbert was ranked in the first tier of policy holder insurance law practitioners. He was singled out by the whole market for being “able to understand even the most complex negotiations at a glance.” Chambers researchers found that Gilbert is considered to be the master in asbestos and bankruptcy work. Clients and practitioners alike remarked that Gilbert can administer “the appropriate injection of mediation skills to get the best results for his client” and has developed a national reputation for obtaining asbestos recoveries for his clients.

As in previous editions of Chambers, John Heintz was recognized for his expertise in multiparty insurance litigation. He is known for his aptitude for “handling complex and high-profile cases with aplomb.” Heintz has worked on significant pieces of litigation for more than 20 years and has built a reputation in the marketplace for a “prolific and distinguished” output of work.

Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced today that corporate lawyer Antonios C. Backos is joining Orrick’s corporate group as a partner in the New York office.

Backos has extensive experience representing investment banks and companies in M&A, private equity, securities and European cross-border transactions. He also has extensive experience and a very strong reputation in sophisticated finance transactions for entities in the maritime industry. Backos is a regular speaker and author on corporate finance matters.

“Tony Backos is an outstanding lawyer with solid international credentials,” said Stephen Graham, head of Orrick’s corporate group. “His arrival adds to the momentum Orrick’s corporate group is building both in New York and in Europe.”

Over the last three months, Orrick has added eight lateral partners in the New York office alone. The corporate group also expanded its capabilities in Europe in January with the successful merger of Orrick’s Paris office with French M&A powerhouse Rambaud Martel.

“The combination of Orrick’s international network of offices and its collaboration across practices means I will be able to better serve my clients across Europe and in the United States,” said Backos. “There is real energy and a collegial environment at Orrick that I’m excited to join.”

The firm’s lawyers advise corporate clients ranging from blue-chip companies to technology-driven start-ups on corporate formations and complex financings; mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic alliances; and strategic technology transactions and restructurings; as well as general corporate counseling. Jacobs Featured in 'Jacobs shows JCA the money' article
As Board President of the Jacksonville JCA, Ken Jacobs -- the managing shareholder of GrayRobinson's Jacksonville office -- has watched over a fundraising campaign that has generated $2.7 million in just over a year.

The Capital Campaign seeks to raise $4 million for renovations to the JCA's San Jose Boulevard campus. The expansion will triple the size of the fitness center, the JCA's main draw, and add a six-lane lap pool.

Jacobs said the expansion is necessary to keep pace with a surge in membership and to keep an edge in the increasingly competitive fitness center market.

""We've seen tremendous growth in the past few years,"" said Jacobs. ""We now serve more than 2,000 members throughout Northeast Florida.""

Today, the centers' biggest draws are the fitness facilities and early education programs. Jacobs said the JCA still plays an important role in keeping together the Jewish community. As subdivisions have replaced neighborhoods and text messaging has replaced conversation, the JCA provides a place where people can gather, said Jacobs.

""It really brings to a community what the neighborhood used to,"" he said.
