Schnader Ranks Highly in Annual Survey of Mid-Level Associates
In the recently released annual survey by The American Lawyer of midlevel associates asking how they would rank their firms and work environment, Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP was ranked 40th in the nation and third highest in the Philadelphia region. More than 6,500 third-, fourth-, and fifth-year (classes of 2001, 2002, and 2003) associates from law firms around the globe participated in this year’s survey, which examined 12 areas that contribute to job satisfaction, including: relations with partners and other associates; the interest and satisfaction level associates have in their work; training and guidance; policy on billables; management openness about firm strategies and partnership chances; the firm's attitude toward pro bono work; compensation and benefits; and the respondents' inclination to stay at their firm for at least two more years.

Vault Top 100 Recognizes Mintz Levin for Quality of Life and Diversity
Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C today announced that Vault, Inc. recognized the firm as one of the top law firms in the nation in its Top 100 Law Firms Guide for 2006, published this month. In addition, the guide recognized Mintz Levin for providing an environment that promotes both quality of life and diversity of its associates.

Within the ""quality of life"" category, the firm ranked 15th nationwide. In addition, Mintz Levin ranked 19th in the country for ""best in diversity with respect for minorities."" Regionally, Mintz Levin ranked among the top 10 law firms in Boston. The Vault compiles its rankings by surveying more than 15,000 associates in over 150 major law firms nationwide.

This spring, Mintz Levin increased the first year associate base salary to $135,000, an acknowledgement of the dedication and consistent high quality of work among the firm's associates. By offering benefits such as paid parental leave, family care leave, onsite emergency child care and one of the nation's first to offer part-time or flexible work arrangements, Mintz Levin supports its attorneys and staff in successfully managing both their personal and professional lives. Therese P. Miller Joins Lathrop & Gage as an Associate
Thérèse P. Miller joined the Kansas City office of Lathrop & Gage L.C. law firm as an associate in the intellectual property litigation practice area. Prior to this, she was an associate with Shook, Hardy and Bacon in their national products liability and intellectual property divisions.

Miller specializes in intellectual property litigation and products liability litigation in a variety of complex civil cases, including pre-trial, trial and appellate work. Her experience includes litigation in trademark and trade dress, patent, copyright, unfair competition, and trade secret cases, with specific expertise in Internet and technology issues. Miller second-chaired a defamation and trademark infringement trial in Kansas in early 2006 and assisted in two major tobacco trials in Maryland and New York to favorable jury verdicts. Before attending law school, Miller worked as a webmaster for CITGO Petroleum Corporation and The University of Tulsa. She is licensed to practice before the Missouri Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri and the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.

Miller earned her bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from The University of Tulsa, magna cum laude, in 1998 and her juris doctorate from The University of Tulsa College of Law, with highest honors, in 2001. Miller is a member of the The Missouri Bar, American Bar Association; and Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. She has a high commitment to pro bono and diversity efforts in the Kansas City legal community.

Daniel R. Guadalupe Named to District XIII Ethics Committee
The law firm of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., headquartered in Somerville, New Jersey, is pleased to announce that member Daniel R. Guadalupe has been appointed by the Office of Attorney Ethics of the Supreme Court of New Jersey to the District XIII Ethics Committee for Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren Counties. His four-year appointment commences September 1, 2006.

The Office of Attorney Ethics (OAE) acts as the investigative and prosecutorial arm of the Supreme Court of New Jersey in discharging the Court's constitutional responsibility to supervise and discipline New Jersey attorneys. The OAE assists and manages 17 district ethics committees and 17 district fee arbitration committees throughout the state. Additionally, the OAE itself handles serious, emergent and complex disciplinary prosecutions. The OAE also administers the Random Audit Compliance Program, which monitors the recordkeeping responsibilities of private practice law firms.

With 20 years of experience, Dan Guadalupe regularly represents individual and corporate clients in a variety of commercial litigation matters including professional liability defense, construction litigation, international matters, and Uniform Commercial Code matters.

A resident of Plainsboro, Guadalupe has been involved in many construction litigation and transactional matters representing property owners and tenants, contractors and subcontractors, building material suppliers, distributors and manufacturers involved in a myriad of construction disputes including construction injury claims, warranty actions, construction defects, professional liability, contract disputes, bidding disputes and bonding issues. He has successfully defended attorneys and engineers in professional liability claims.

Guadalupe has also handled and/or supervised litigation and transactional matters in Switzerland, Spain, Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. He has served as an arbitrator for the International Chamber of Commerce in disputes involving multinational companies.

Guadalupe currently serves as Vice President of GlassRoots, Inc. and Executive Vice President of Puerto Ricans in Management Executive Roles (PRIMER). He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Seton Hall University and gives regular lectures on issues related to construction law.

He earned his B.A. from Columbia College in 1983 and his J.D. in 1986 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.

Molly Hughes Selected for Leadership South Carolina
Mary L. (“Molly”) Hughes, a Member (partner) in Nexsen Pruet’s Charleston office, has been chosen for the 2007 class of Leadership South Carolina.

Hughes concentrates her practice in the areas of litigation and employment and labor law, and has been certified as a specialist in employment and labor law by the South Carolina Supreme Court.

Earlier this year, she was also named to the Charleston Regional Business Journal's ""40 Under 40"" list, an annual honor that recognizes 40 of the region's ""brightest business stars"" under the age of 40.

“Molly is a leader in every sense of the word,” said Leighton Lord, chairman of the board of Nexsen Pruet. “She’s made major contributions to the firm, the community and now she’s got the chance to do the same for the state. We’re proud of her service.”

Before joining Nexsen Pruet, Hughes clerked for the Honorable David C. Norton of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, Charleston Division.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, she is also an adjunct professor at the Charleston School of Law.

Leadership South Carolina is a statewide endeavor that develops the state’s emerging leaders to increase South Carolina’s capacity to address issues related to quality of life. It is affiliated with Clemson University’s Institute for Economic and Community Development.

DAVIS & GILBERT PARTNER RONALD R. URBACH JOINS FACULTY OF CONFERENCE ON ADVERTISING SELF-REGULATION – An NAD event to be held during Advertising Week 2006
Davis & Gilbert announced today that partner Ronald R. Urbach, a partner in and co-chair of Davis & Gilbert's Advertising, Marketing and Promotions Department, would be participating as a speaker at the annual NAD Conference: What's New in Comparative Advertising, Claim Support and Self-Regulation. The conference, scheduled Sept. 25-26 at New York City's W New York Hotel, 541 Lexington Ave., is being held in conjunction with Advertising Week 2006 and will explore the value of scientific evidence in establishing advertising claims, the limits of ""puffery"" and denigration, and examine the advertising issues that concern the Federal Trade Commission.
