Fulgueira Joins The Law Firm Of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell
Marty Fulgueira recently joined the Miami office of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. as an associate practicing in several areas, including product liability, toxic tort defense and casualty defense.

Fulgueira graduated third in her class from the University of Florida, College of Law in 2005. In 2002, she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in newspaper journalism and an outside concentration in dance. She is a member of The Florida Bar.

Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell Associate Appointed To Ninth Circuit Judicial Nominating Committee
LaShawnda Jackson, an associate in the Orlando office of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, was recently appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Judicial Nominating Commission for Florida’s 9th Circuit.

The commission is responsible for screening applicants for judgeship for the governor’s ultimate approval. It consists of nine governor-appointed members who live in the circuit, at least six of whom are lawyers.

Jackson practices in the areas of casualty defense, product liability and insurance coverage. She defends individuals and companies against premise, product defect and motor vehicle accident liability claims.

An honors graduate of the University of Florida, Jackson received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 1999. In 2002, she graduated with honors from the University of Florida College of Law.

Benjamin P. Cooper of Pepper Hamilton Appointed to NACUA's Committee of Publications
Benjamin P. Cooper, an associate with Pepper Hamilton LLP, has been appointed to the Committee of Publications for the National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA).

Mr. Cooper, who is resident in Pepper’s Philadelphia office, concentrates his practice in commercial litigation and higher education law. He received his law degree from the University of Chicago in 1997, where he was an editor of the University of Chicago Law Review. His student comment – “Truth in Sentencing: The Prospective and Retroactive Application of Simmons v. South Carolina,” 63 U. Chi. L. Rev. 1573 (1996) – was cited by Justice Stevens in his dissenting opinion in O’Dell v. Netherland, 521 U.S. 151, 173 n. 7 (1997).

Started in 1960-61, NACUA (www.nacua.org) provides legal services to colleges and universities throughout the nation. Nearly 1,400 campuses (about 660 institutions), represented by over 3,000 attorneys, comprise its current membership. Its mission is to advance the effective practice of higher education attorneys for the benefit of the colleges and universities they serve.

Robert L. Hines Re-Appointed Co-Chair of ABA Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee
Farella Braun + Martel LLP is pleased to announce that Robert L. Hines has been re-appointed as a co-chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Litigation. Mr. Hines, chair of Farella Braun + Martel's Environmental Law Department, will assume his responsibility at the end of the ABA Annual Meeting on August 14, 2006.

The ABA Section of Litigation Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution is concerned with developments and optimum use of all forms of alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, summary jury trials, mini-trials, early neutral evaluation, as well as effective settlement and negotiation techniques. Alternative dispute resolution is considered both within the formal litigation process and pre-suit. The committee sponsors numerous programs to enhance the advocate's skills in all dispute resolution procedures because knowledge of ADR techniques is particularly essential for trial lawyers.

At Farella Braun + Martel, Mr. Hines represents clients in complex governmental and private environmental litigation and enforcement actions, including state and federal Superfund actions, natural resource damage claims, air and water actions, and multi-media agency proceedings. He also provides regulatory representation and compliance counseling regarding the selection and implementation of site investigations and cleanup. Mr. Hines is skilled in the use of dispute resolution techniques and advocates the use of such approaches where appropriate. He serves as a mediator to the United States District Court of the Northern District of California.

The Vault Recognizes Foley Hoag for Diversity, Pro Bono
The highly regarded career information website, Vault.com, recently announced its 2007 rankings of U.S. law firms and included Foley Hoag in the top twenty in several categories, including Diversity and Pro Bono. Rankings will be included in the next edition of Vault's popular book, Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms.

In addition to top twenty rankings for diversity, pro bono, associate hours, and office space, the firm also placed in the top ten among law firms in Boston.

Vault produces its Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms annually, compiled from responses by associates at law firms nationwide.

Negrin Joins The Law Firm Of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell
Dorothy “Doris” Negrin recently joined the Miami office of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. as an associate practicing in the areas of commercial litigation, real estate litigation, casualty defense, employment and professional liability.

In her commercial litigation practice, Negrin represents individuals and corporations in cases involving claims of fraud, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty, as well as issues attendant to franchise agreements and other business disputes.

Negrin graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 2003. In 1993, she graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. She is a member of The Florida Bar, the Dade County Bar Association, the Cuban American Bar Association, the Florida Association of Women Lawyers and the American Bar Association.

Roetzel & Andress Attorney Lewis W. Adkins Jr. Named to University of Akron Law Alumni Association Board of Trustees
Lewis W. Adkins Jr., Partner with Roetzel & Andress, L.P.A., has been named to the Law Alumni Association (LAA) Board of Trustees for The University of Akron School of Law. The appointment was made by William T. Whitaker, President of the Law Alumni Association.

""I am honored to have been appointed to the LAA Board and look forward with great enthusiasm to this opportunity to help promote a law program that I consider to be one of the finest in the country,"" stated Mr. Adkins.

Mr. Adkins will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Trustee Max Rothal until the next regular meeting of the LAA in April, 2007. He will serve on the Membership Committee.

The LAA Board of Trustees functions as the governing body for the Law Alumni Association. Board members, who are nominated by their peers to serve three-year terms, share a common mission to promote the goals of The University of Akron School of Law and maintain strong ties with its alumni.

Mr. Adkins received his juris doctorate degree from The University of Akron School of Law in 1993, cum laude, and has been an active supporter of the Law School over the years.
