Three Fulbright Partners Named Legal Elite
Fulbright partners Marilyn Mooney, Rick Robinson and Joseph Small have been named Legal Elite by SmartCEO magazine. The second annual Legal Elite list appears in Smart CEO’s August issue. SmartCEO targets the greater Washington area, providing local features, case-study advice and trend analysis.

The Legal Elite list is drawn from attorneys in the greater-D.C. area and selections are nominated and selected by area business owners, industry experts and peers.

Foley Washington, D.C. Attorneys Named 2006 “Greater Washington Legal Elite”
Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that two partners have been named 2006 “Greater Washington Legal Elite” by Washington SmartCEO.

The Foley attorneys named and their primary practices as classified by SmartCEO are: Pavan K. Agarwal, intellectual property and Scott L. Fredericksen, white collar defense & corporate compliance.

To compile its second annual list, SmartCEO contacted Greater Washington's practicing lawyers, business owners, industry experts and peers to nominate the top attorneys in the region. Winners were selected based on five criteria, including area of expertise, leadership, accomplishments, innovation and relationship development. The winners were announced in the August issue.

Pavan K. Agarwal serves as the leader of the Electronics Practice and is an active member in the firm's IP Litigation Practice. He focuses in various patent law areas, including IP litigation and licensing, as well as counseling through negotiations, opinions and prosecution. Agarwal represents numerous high-tech clients, with a focus on electronics and automotive technology companies. He is also a member of the firm's Appellate and International Practices and the Nanotechnology Industry Team.

Scott L. Fredericksen is a member of the firm's White Collar Defense & Corporate Compliance Practice. He has more than 27 years of litigation experience and focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense. Prior to joining the firm, Fredericksen was a ""special prosecutor"" and served as associate independent counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel in Washington, D.C. There, he served as trial counsel in the criminal investigation of alleged fraud at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He has tried numerous complex criminal and civil cases and regularly conducts internal investigations on behalf of clients.

Labor and Employment Attorney David Laurent Joins Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney
Labor and Employment shareholder David J. Laurent has joined Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC in its Pittsburgh office.

During his career, Laurent's practice has focused on a range of labor, employee benefits and employment matters, with a particular focus on the coal industry. He has handled traditional labor and NLRB matters such as collective bargaining, union organizing campaigns, decertification elections, strikes and corporate campaigns. He has also helped employers with complex ERISA litigation matters involving multi-employer trust funds and the Coal Industry Retiree Health Benefit Act, as well as employment discrimination claims arising under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. Laurent's practice also involves providing assistance with the labor and benefit aspects of commercial transactions.

Laurent joins a Labor and Employment group of more than 60 attorneys, recently expanded through a merger with Klett Rooney Lieber & Schorling.

According to George Basara, chair of the firm's Labor and Employment Group, Laurent is widely respected by his peers, both in and out of the coal industry.

""David's experience in litigating complicated pension and ERISA issues, particularly in the coal industry, provides Buchanan with experience and insight that few firms in this area can offer clients,"" Basara said. ""He also brings a particularly strong labor law background to the firm. Needless to say, we're thrilled he's here.

Real Estate Attorney Jacqui Fiske Lazo's Election to Carnegie Library Board of Trustees Noted in Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Real Estate attorney Jacqui Fiske Lazo's election as chairwoman for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees was noted in the August 6, 2006, edition of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Lazo is a shareholder in the Pittsburgh office of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP), founded in 1895, offers library services from 17 neighborhood library locations, a main library in Oakland and the Library for the Blind and Physically handicapped. CLP is a public trust and independent organization that has been central to community life in all of Pittsburgh's neighborhoods.

Addition of Intellectual Property Attorney Patrick Higgins to Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Noted in Legal Intelligencer
The addition of Intellectual Property attorney Patrick H. Higgins to Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney was noted in the August 4, 2006, edition of The Legal Intelligencer. Higgins is a shareholder in the firm's Princeton office.

The Intelligencer's article highlighted the number of lateral partner moves that took place during the summer of 2006. Higgins, who recently joined the firm as a member of its Intellectual Property Section, focuses his practice on the pharmaceutical industry, specifically market exclusivity. He is one of the first attorneys at Buchanan to focus on that area.

Higgins told The Intelligencer that Buchanan's breadth in pharmaceuticals was a selling point for him to make the lateral move. He also noted that he will work closely with the firm's Food and Drug Administration group.

ANN M. GARFINKLE NAMED AMONG TOP WASHINGTON LAWYERS

The winners of the Top Washington Lawyers awards will be announced on Thursday, September 14 at the Ritz-Carlton in D.C. during an awards reception and networking event held by the Washington Business Journal.

Junion Achievement Presents Award to Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons' Bruce Warren
Bruce Warren, a partner with Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons has been presented with an ""ImpACT Award"" by JA Worldwide™ (Junior Achievement) for his longtime involvement with the organization. Warren has served as counsel to the youth economic and business education organization for more than 10 years, and served on the board of Junior Achievement of Southern Colorado, Inc. in the late 1970's, ending his term in the mid-1980's as president of the board.

Warren was presented with the award by JA Worldwide President and Chief Executive Officer David S. Chernow at a meeting of the organization's headquarters staff in Colorado Springs.
