Rhett Campbell was featured in the August 7, 2006 edition of the Texas Lawyer in the article ""Speedy Prepack Bankruptcy Fuels Davis Petroleum.""

By the time Davis Petroleum Corp. hired Rhett Campbell and a team of bankruptcy lawyers at Thompson & Knight in February, the Houston-based oil and gas exploration company had a big need for cash and little time to get it.

Davis Petroleum had been working on a cash-infusion deal with a private equity company, but that proposed investment by Evercore Capital Partners hit a solid roadblock in early February. On Feb. 14, Davis Petroleum hired Thompson & Knight to explore other financial alternatives, including a Chapter 11 filing.

Loeb & Loeb LLP Announces Changes in Practice Group Leadership
Loeb & Loeb LLP announced changes in practice leadership positions today. Thomas N. Lawson has been named Los Angeles Chair of the firm’s Tax Department and Mitchell S. Nussbaum will Chair the Securities Group. In addition, the firm has formed a new Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Group and named Andrew M. Ross as Chair. Lawson is a partner resident in the Los Angeles office. Nussbaum and Ross are both Partners resident in the New York office.

Loeb & Loeb's Tax Group provides traditional business and individual organizational and transactional tax counseling, in addition to subspecialty work in entertainment and real estate taxation. Thomas N. Lawson has been an active tax law practitioner for over 28 years. His practice focuses on the representation of individuals and their businesses in connection with income and wealth transfer tax planning. He also does sophisticated tax planning for business transactions.

Jonathan M. Prince Joins Porzio as a Real Estate Associate
Porzio, Bromberg & Newman, P.C. is pleased to announce that JONATHAN M. PRINCE has joined the firm as an associate.

Mr. Prince will continue to concentrate his practice in the area of commercial real estate. He has represented property owners, landlords, tenants, institutional lenders, borrowers, sellers, and purchasers in a broad range of sophisticated commercial acquisitions, dispositions, leases loans, and other property-related transactions.

Mr. Prince comes to the firm from Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C. of Florham Park. He served a two-year clerkship with the Honorable Dale R. Cathell, Associate Judge, Maryland Court of Special Appeals.

Mr. Prince is a 1995 graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where he served as Supervising Editor, Law Review and a 1989 graduate of the University of Maryland. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Maryland.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST JOINS TROUTMAN SANDERS LLP IN ITS RICHMOND OFFICE

Jerrold Samford, Professional Geologist, has joined the Environmental and Natural Resources practice group in Richmond, Virginia, as an Environmental Compliance Specialist. Samford was the Senior Consultant and in charge of environmental services for the Richmond-based Virginia Geotechnical Services, P.C. for nearly 19 years. He was responsible for regulatory compliance with CERCLA, RCRA, solid waste, brownfield, and other issues for his clients.

In addition to his consulting experience, Samford was formerly the Senior Geologist in the Virginia Superfund Program in the Department of Environmental Quality, and served as the Senior Geologist for the Northern Region of the Virginia Water Control Board.

Samford currently serves as the President of the Institute of Brownfield Professionals and is a Fellow and Past President of ASFE: The Best People on Earth. He serves on the ASTM committee responsible for developing standards for due diligence for commercial real estate transactions, and was one of ASFE's representatives during the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's All Appropriate Inquiry (AAI) negotiated rulemaking process.

Samford earned his B.A. in geology from The College of William and Mary in 1977, and obtained his M.S. from Virginia Tech in 1981. He has also obtained state-issued certification licenses as a Professional Geologist (P.G.) in the states of Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia.

William L. Penny appointed by Tennessee's Governor to the Public Health Emergency Advisory Committee
Stites & Harbison announced that William L. Penny of the Nashville, Tenn., office was appointed by Tennessee Governor, Phil Bredesen, to the Public Health Emergency Advisory Committee.

Appointment terms vary based on statutory recommendations or term limits specified by geographic or other qualifications.

Penny is a Member of the firm and is part of the Environmental, Natural Resources & Energy Service Group. He has more than 20 years of experience in environmental law. He served as General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (1991 to 1992) and for the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment (1984 to 1992). He first joined the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment as Assistant General Counsel for Environment (1982 to 1984).

Erica Horn elected to board of directors of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants
Stites & Harbison announced today that Erica Horn, a member of the firm in the Frankfort, Ky., office was elected to the board of directors of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants (KyCPA). The incoming board members, along with other members of the 2006-2007 board of directors were recognized at KyCPA's Annual Members Meeting in Louisville, Ky., June 22. They officially began their duties July 1.

Board members serve volunteer positions and are elected by the society's general membership. The Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants is a statewide, non-profit professional organization serving CPAs in public accounting firms, business, industry, government and education.

Horn is a member of the Business Litigation Service Group, where her practice focuses on state and local tax (SALT) planning and litigation. She also uses her prior experience as a CPA in accounting malpractice cases, and has expertise in complex business litigation.
