The Wall Street Journal published the article "Steel Distributor Esmark Targets Wheeling for Proxy Fight, Merger," and named McGuireWoods as Esmark's legal counsel in its July 17 edition.

Securities Litigation Associate Joins Stradley Ronon
Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP, has added Rachel Tausend as an associate in its securities litigation and investment management practice groups.

Based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office, Tausend represents and counsels investment companies, investment advisers, broker-dealers and individuals in connection with inquiries, investigations and enforcement actions by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, state regulators and industry self-regulatory organizations. She also conducts internal investigations and represents companies and individuals in private securities litigation.

Prior to joining Stradley Ronon, Tausend was an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP where she practiced in securities and business litigation. She received her law and masters in business administration degrees, cum laude, from University of Michigan Law and Business Schools. Tausend received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

Jeffrey J. Greenbaum - Get ready for the e-discovery regs
Jeffrey Greenbaum is quoted in this article which deals with discovery of electronically stored information(ESI) and the New Jersey Supreme Court’s formal adoption of rule changes that regulate discovery in the age of e-mail, voice mail, computer files and other information stored electronically. Greenbaum, a major advocate of the changes, said their adoption “shows that New Jersey is taking the lead in accommodating discovery to the realities of modern business.” Greenbaum is a member of the Civil Practice Committee that helped push for state adoption of the federal model and felt that consistency between the rules is a key benefit. He also played an active role in the development of the federal model for the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation.

Jeffrey J. Greenbaum - Rules Tightening Discovery To Be Voted on by ABA
This August 7, 2006 New Jersey Law Journal article entitled “Rules Tightening Discovery To Be Voted on by ABA” discusses an ABA vote today at its annual meeting on two litigation issues - one is protecting draft expert reports from discovery and the other is allowing parties to reassert privilege for inadvertently disclosed material. Jeffrey Greenbaum, a Member of the Firm and co-chair of the ABA Section of Litigation’s Federal Practice Task Force, was interviewed for this article and states “We [the task force] believe counsel and experts should be subject to consistent rules and court expectations around the country.

West Appointed Member of Board of Advisors for Duke Gardens
Raleigh attorney Thomas R. West has been appointed to a 3-year term on the Board of Advisors of the Sarah P. Duke Gardens of Duke University. The Advisory Board assists the Executive Director of Duke Gardens, Dr. Richard A. White, on matters concerning the Gardens as one of the primary aesthetic assets of the University and one of the finest public gardens in the nation. The Gardens occupy 55 acres in the heart of the University's West Campus, and are renowned both for landscape design and quality of horticulture, attracting more than 300,000 visitors from all over the world each year.

Tom also serves as Vice Chair of Pfeiffer University’s Board of Trustees. He was appointed to this position after serving four years on the Board. Pfeiffer is a United Methodist-related university committed to diversity and helping its students achieve their full personal potential through accessible undergraduate and graduate programs.

Mr. West has been actively involved in shaping and deciding governmental and regulatory issues in North Carolina since 1986 when he was among the first persons to be appointed to serve as an Administrative Law Judge. He served in that position until May 1997, when he joined Poyner & Spruill LLP. Mr. West currently represents many different professions and industries in regulatory matters, dispute resolutions, litigation and appeals involving State and local government agencies. He is also active as a mediator, with significant experience in wrongful death, personal injury, construction defect, alleged medical and nursing home negligence, and environmental penalty cases. Mr. West is the North Carolina State Bar’s representative to the State’s Courts Commission and has served as Chair of the Administrative Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. NEWMEYER & DILLION LLP EXPANDS ITS TRANSACTIONAL PRACTICE
Business and real estate-law firm Newmeyer & Dillion LLP continues to grow, adding two new attorneys to its highly regarded transactional real estate practice. Joining the firm as associates at its Newport Beach headquarters are Kevin D. Elder and Rhonda K. Kreger.

These are outstanding attorneys whose expertise will further enhance our capabilities in the transactional area to accommodate the needs of clients throughout the state,” said Tom Newmeyer, co-founding partner of the firm, which also has an office in Walnut Creek to serve its expanding Northern California client base.

Elder concentrates on real estate and business transactions. His background includes representing public and private entities in the negotiation of purchase and sale agreements, title review and environmental review, as well as the negotiation of asset and stock purchase agreements, shareholder agreements, corporate formation and general contract review.

Elder received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles, where he served as the technical editor of the Law Review. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from the University of Southern California.

Kreger also focuses on real estate and business transactions, with experience in affordable housing asset management leasing, property management and a range of other corporate business issues. In addition, she is an instructor in the UC Irvine Extension Paralegal Certificate Program, teaching courses in legal ethics, fundamentals of legal assistantship and legal research.

Also, a graduate of Loyola Law School of Los Angeles, Kreger was awarded First Honors in Ethical Lawyering, Corporate Taxation and Trial Advocacy. She earned her undergraduate degree from Rice University.

McLane Attorney Kate Vaughn Selected as a Member of 2007 Leadership Greater Manchester
Cathryn (Kate) Vaughn, an attorney with the law firm of McLane Graf, Raulerson & Middleton, P.A., has recently been selected as a member of the 2007 Leadership Greater Manchester class.

Designed to recognize and nurture existing leadership talents from diverse sectors of the local community, Leadership Greater Manchester selects thirty-five professionals from among businesses, government, education, not-for-profit, arts, and religious and community groups to participate in the annual program. This year's class begins meeting this fall.

In her legal career, Kate focuses on commercial, insurance and environmental litigation, and education law. A considerable portion of her practice is spent representing parties potentially responsible for hazardous waste contamination in recouping response costs from insurers and from other potentially responsible parties via CERCLA's contribution provisions. She also works on a number of business litigation matters.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Kate was a special education and independent school teacher at the Manville School in Boston and Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts.

Kate received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from William Smith College in 1995, her Masters in Education from Simmons College in 1997 and her Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law in 2004.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, the New Hampshire Bar Association, the New Hampshire Trial Lawyers Association, the New Hampshire Women's Bar Association and the Manchester Bar Association. She is admitted to practice law in New Hampshire.

Kate serves on the Manchester Heritage Commission, the Derryfield School Board of Trustees and Alumni Council, and the Manchester Youth Leadership Steering Committee. She is also a member of the Heritage United Way Community Investment team.

Kate currently resides in Manchester.
